Congratulations to Bobcats Guard Kemba Walker for making the 2012 All-Summer League Team! Walker averaged 15.8 points, 5.8 assists and 3.6 rebounds, while his 29 total assists ranked him first in the league. Walker's vocal leadership led the Bobcats to a 4-1 record in the Summer League. The NBA Summer League’s All-Translate Team-Dime Mag (http://dimemag.com/2012/07/the-nba-summer-leagues-all-translate-team/)

Here’s my pick for the best five who can have an immediate effect on their teams next season.

DAMIAN LILLARD, PORTLAND

JOHN HENSON, MILWAUKEE

KEMBA WALKER, CHARLOTTE
This is crazy, but the Bobcats only lost once in Vegas, and a rejuvenated Walker was a primary reason for that success. As one of the best college players in the last five years, you knew Walker thrived in that kind of system, and new coach Mike Dunlap has obliged by putting in traps like this is 40 Minutes of Hell all over again. The Bobcats forced 69 turnovers to 41 of their own, according to the Charlotte Observer, and got 82 points off those TOs to just 32 for opponents. Walker was the point man on the traps from his place on top of the defense, and then was able to cut and move alongside Jeff Taylor on offense. It remains to be seen whether the defense that worked in Summer League will have any effect this season (or can be sustained with this thin roster), but Walker has an ally in Dunlap, who watched Walker from St. John’s bench, to let him play his game.

JAE CROWDER, DALLAS

DONATAS MOTIEJUNAS, HOUSTON

Good on Kemba. Hopefully he and the team can build on the success they had in Vegas.

Guess I'll put this here, from ESPN's Summer League Awards:

Most Improved Second-Year Player

Bismack Biyombo, Charlotte Bobcats

Before a Timberwolves home game against the Bobcats last season, I watched the coaching staff work with Biyombo on just catching post-entry passes. He wasn't even making moves after them. He just practiced catching the ball. A few months later, he's scoring on solid post moves, finding cutters down the lane and dominating the boards. Could be a sign of things to come.

Center of The Universe Award
(For most shots taken)

Byron Mullens, Charlotte Bobcats

I'm not sure who told Mullens he's Dirk Nowitzki, but he seemed to believe it. The Bobcats center took a lot of long jumpers, which might have been more disorienting to opposing teams than the full-court press Charlotte used throughout. Mullens did average 15.4 points per game, but he needed 15.6 field goal attempts per contest to achieve that.

Most Likely To Play Kenneth Faried In A Movie Award

Crowder
Jae Crowder, Dallas Mavericks

A lot of things you heard around the arena and throughout the players/coaches/media section is how much Crowder looked like Faried. From the similar-looking long dreadlocks to the undersized-for-his-position assessments, the Mavs' rookie was drawing comparisons and still exceeding expectations throughout the week.

Runner-up: Kenneth Faried, Denver Nuggets

I just want to let everyone know I was in on that concept first! I definitely remember a Nolan Richardson reference, so for that I'll doff my cap to you, sir.

OT: Well deserved and earned for Kemba. Kid playing like the starting 1 he is and excelled! Still, work on that shot, Kemba, work on that shot.

I keep trying to put together a response, but I just keep feeling an overwhelming sadness for white people all over America. Thank goodness this dark period is over.
