This makes a lot of sense, as the Magic have exactly ONE C on their roster, Vucevic, the young guy from Philly they just got. Glen Davis at 6'9" was their b/u last season. The Magic have 4 PF's who are decent; Davis, McRoberts, Harrington, and the rookie who looked very good in Summer League, Nicholson. AND a couple more PF's I've no idea about, Ayon and O'Quinn.
Surely they'd be interested in Diop's expiring...

They do have a need for a C, but I don't think I'd sacrifice Diop's expiring for the PFs they have. Although McRoberts could fit nicely into how Dunlap wants to play his salary, though expiring, is about half of Diop's. Looking at Orlando's salaries, it'd be very tough to work something out that doesn't involve using players they want to keep or us having to throw more into getting a reserve PF than would be necessary.

Pretty sure this has come from me pointing it out in the free agency and trade thread http://www.bobcatsplanet.com/vb/showthread.php?13812-Off-Season-Trade-and-Free-Agent-Ideas-Thread/page62
I did think about Diop but I couldn't see any deals that would work for both regarding salary etc

Is Gustavo Ayon an expiring deal? Pretty raw athlete with an ok short range jumper...if we got him for Diop I could see him playing some minutes. McRoberts and Ayon are 2 players that I'd want at PF for Diop, but I'm not sure they're able to trade McRoberts until the deadline per CBA rules.

Just an FYI...Orlando got a HUGE TPE in this 4 team deal (think north of 15 million) and they also have another TPE over 4 million.
I don't know the other guys but I do like McRoberts.

they will probably be using those to absorb contracts from teams no longer in championship hunt but in the tax. they will also be asking for firsts for their trouble. the problem with every team now either going for a championship or going for the "okc model" (really starting to hate that term) is that if more than 1 or 2 are doing it, the picks become shittier and the deals become harder to come by. okc was so good and compiling the picks because they were the only team doing it. it is kind of like moneyball, once the red sox and the other rich teams started doing it, they put the a's out of business.

I agree on them wanting picks and if I were them I'd be looking to do that while taking on an extra year of salary vs. just picking up Gana. They do have to find the right combination tho; a team with a serviceable big only on a 2 year deal currently on a team with a pick they'd be willing to include.
Probably not that easy, but doable.
What picks did OKC acquire by taking on salary? I remember the Utah one but that's it.

i remember them trading kurt thomas or someone like him. they took him on + a first, then traded him for first. so basically they got two firsts from him.

Magic have Vucevic, Ayon, O'Quinn. That's 3 centers. All are better than Diop and all have better contracts. No, the Magic don't want Diop.

I think the magic are just under the tax also so don't look for them to take on any extra salary.

Arenas was amnestied so his salary doesn't count against the cap/tax limit.
We couldn't trade him for a pack of Now and Laters......

Wasn't Diop our only centre last year? We were in the same position as the magic, play Diop or guys who will do a job (biz and Mullens). We chose other guys... What makes you think they will be different? They have aygon And glen Davis.
