In moves that smell of housecleaning, two of the Charlotte Bobcats\' top executives, Peter Smul and Chris Weiller, have left the franchise.
Smul, who was the team\'s chief operating officer, and Weiller, who was the chief marketing officer, have close ties to Ed Tapscott, who resigned as team president last month. Sources say Tapscott resigned rather than be demoted out of a job in which he had authority over both business and basketball operations.
The team confirmed Smul and Weiller were no longer with the franchise, without further comment. The team has had significant turnover among business-side executives, with Tom Ward (marketing) and Naomi Travers (broadcasting) leaving before the end of the second season.
Neither Smul nor Weiller could be reached for comment Thursday. The team is consulting with the NBA on possible candidates to replace Tapscott.
