View Full Version : If we end up with Toronto's pick...

Assuming we get Toronto's pick, which would probably be in the 16-23 range, I almost guarantee we'd get a shooter with how deep this draft is for shooters.
Honestly, I'd say we'd probably take Alando Tucker or Daequan Cook.
Daequan cook is shooting 53% as a freshman, and is also shooting 50% from 3 land. He also WANTS THE BALL. We need a true scorer who can be our primary option - though I'm still hoping Morrison does this.
I would say Marcus Williams, but trading up would cost too much.
Thoughts?

i think dequan cook would be a viable option. he has good size at SG being 6-5 and 210 but i watched last night against wisconsin and he seemed to force some shots outside the flow of the game. he would still be a solid option as long as he knows his role on the team with so many successful college players

That's funny.
I watched the Ohio Vs Illinois on the weekend thought the same thing - that Cook is a chucker. I don't like him.
The only other person on the Buckeyes that impresses me who's name doesn't start with Greg and finish with Oden is Othello Hunter. Not that he will be in the draft or that I would draft him for us, but I think that kid has some real ability.
Wiilliams is my obvious choice but like I have said, I think he will be at least top 10 when it's actually draft night. that being the case, I would still trade up for him.
We have cap space and assets I hope we would use that I think would allow us to trade up.
I also like Nick Young but I doubt he'll be in the draft. He really wants to play with OJ Mayo next year at USC and have a shot at the championship.
I'm surpised you don't have Corey Brewer and Richard Roby on your list of options.

I think a lot of that may have to do with him being 18 and a freshman.

I'm going with Williams for the obvious reason we really need a legit two guard with size for one and I think the backcourt tandem of Williams and Felton would be really exciting to watch and would create so many mismatches around the league.

If we get Toronto's pick, I'd love to see them get Corey Brewer out Florida. In my opinion he is more responsible for the Gators success than Joakim Noah.

If he wouldn't be selected before, Daequan Cook or Alando Tucker type scorers are fine with me. But I'd like to see Tiago Splitter drafted very much. But I believe he'll be a lottery pick.
I also hope Toronto won't qualify for the playoffs. So we'll able to have their pick without any protection in 2008. That's better IMO.

Too much like Crash.
It would be a double up in talent.

I like Brewer's jumper a lot more than Gerald's.

100% agree with you there, but essentially they are the same player.
They both have poor handles, they both are energy players, they both are pests on the defensive end but more from a help D point of view, not man on man.
We already have Crash and we just drafted Ammo. Why would we want to draft yet another SF?
Brewer doesn't have a great abilbity to create his own shot or shots for others (although he did have double figure assists in a game last week)

let me get this story straight...
If toronto starts a downfall, they could end up in the lottery as well. we get there pick and we could possibly pick 1 and 2? long shot obviously but thats best case scenario.
if we stay in lottery land and toronto joins us. We could either have the number 1 and 2 pick or the 13 and 14th pick in the worst case scenario.
or we both get out of lottery land and pick 15th 16th at best right???

The Toronto pick is lottery protected, so if they finish out of the playoffs they keep their pick. But as someone posted earlier if they crash this year and we don't get their pic, then no matter how bad the stink it up next year we do get it.

I think Thadeous Young would be the pick for me......not having a great year....but is a guy who will be better in the NBA IMO......just needs a few years. Has as much potential as anyone in the draft.

I love Thaddeus Young's athleticism, I wonder if he'll be more of a SF or a SG at the NBA lever?

Thanks ziggy.....I appreciate the welcome! Been posting on Charlotte.com since forever.....got the link to this forum from a poster there.
I think he could be either. Needs to develop a more consistent jumper, so I think his initial position would be SF since he would be more of a slasher at first. Just soooo much potential and if he decides to leave, he could be there with the Toronto pick.....or heck.....maybe our pick if we make the playoffs!

i think young is also going to be a good player. i heard a rumor that he has been playing hurt most of this year so that has really taken away from his athleticism, which is a big part of his game. so say that the teams in the lottery are scared away from him and then maybe he falls into our laps with a mid-round pick, i think that's a good scenario for us. of course you touched on problem #1 in my eyes, we are overloaded at SF, where are all the frontcourt players in this poll?

I made the poll on the basis that we would take a frontcourt player with our first pick, then take a scorer with Toronto's pick. It's easier to get a significant scorer in the mid-late 1st round (Josh Howard, Gilbert Arenas, Michael Finley) then it is to get a significant big man with the same picks (see: nearly every big man not in the top 10)
