Is there any reason that we shouldn't be giving Primoz Brezec's minutes to Ryan Hollins instead?
I've seen more out of Ryan in the last two games than Primoz has shown me all season.
Thoughts?

i was just about to start a topic on this subject actually. hollins could be a lot like a tyson chandler, good rebounder, shot blocker and energy boost. i was watching the game on tv last night and someone on atl shot it, and hollins was probably 8 feet from him trying to block it. i thought he was crazy for trying to block it but he got rediculously close. i think hollins should get 25 mins a game, and primoz around 15. hollins can str8 fly too. i'm not too impressed with his offense outside of dunking, but he can work on that!

I've always wanted a athletic big man on the Cats roster I'd take Hollins over Brezec right now.

Hollins is a baller no doubt as of right now i would take primoz just because of expeirence but by next year i say hollins is the man but i think he is too young and too inexpierenced to start

I agree with you that he shouldn't start. He does deserve the 20 minute or so. I don't care if he dunks, Dwight Howard dunks all the time too! If he scores, I don't care.
He's definitely a good fit.

i agree with what you guys are saying. when hollins is in the game, he wants to block every shot. i counted on one possession where hollins tried to set about 3 different screens. he just wants to play basketball and make an impact out there, and he is much more active than primoz.
having said that, i think 20 minutes may be a bit much. somewhere in the 10-12 range would be appropriate. he does have that energy, but he isn't much on offense other than a dunker. i also think that while he's trying to block every shot, he gets himself out of position for rebounds sometimes. also, like most rookies, he's just jittery all the time which gets him in foul trouble. if he could improve his "basketball IQ" as they like to call it, then he could be a great rotation player in the future.

We have to remember that this is his third game playing in the NBA, so I figure, like Ray, once he gets some seasoning in him.
He'll adjust to the scheme, and should do fantastic. It also helps that he has Blockafor to cover for him :afro:

the question is primoz vs hollins.
Offense
Ryan Hollins is very active setting nice screens constantly going to the basket and tryin to rip down rebounds like a man possesed. Doesnt have a whole lot of moves in his arsenal and plays a little wild sometimes. trys to dunk everysingle time, hell thats not a bad thing really high percentage shot right very young and it shows a lot of times. but this is only his 3rd apperance. LOTS OF UPSIDE with rare atheleticsm from a guy 7 1
Primoz Brezec has a nice 15 foot jumper, and a couple nice around the basket moves. also runs a pretty nice pick and roll with the jumper usually falling Will not dunk unless completly wide open, kind of a lot slower. Primoz is older and still doesnt seem completely comfortable in his own body. not nearly as fast as ryan in the open court and not even near close as quick. also has like a 3 inch vertical.
DEFENSE
Hollins - also very active, trys to block anything inside the arc. and thats not really an overstatement... he wants to swat everything. him and okafor will make a dangerous duo in the paint. plays well in his defensive role as well. often times okafor will block a shot only to be retrieved by the other team for a putback. hollins gives that second layer of defense . that being said. hes wild, can get out of position and commits a lot, and i mean a lot of fouls and often very quick. plays with heart and determination but hes young and could be a liability.
Primoz- i dont know what to write here, ive never actually seen him play defense. he does have very good reaction faces when getting dunked on, so that makes him good for posters. other than that there is nothing positive from brezec on defense.
in summary. your gettin like 4-6 more points agame from primoz than you migt from hollins ... but primoz is older and has way less upside. the minutes need to be distributed gradually more and more to ryan hollins. and lookin for a trade for primoz wouldnt be a bad idea either. the upside from hollins is too crazy high. benching him and giving him no PT is hurting his develpment. i dont think he should start but i do think he needs much more PT.

Great analysis Mustachio.
Right now Ryan is so wild that if he started, he'd probably foul out by halftime, so until hes more ready, they should let The Slovenian Butterfly continue to start and let Ryan get maybe 15-18 minutes off of the bench.
Bernie loves his veterans so much though that I have a bad feeling that Ryan is going to get buried again when Primoz gets healthy. He only got 6 minutes last night with Primoz out :-\

Ryan vs Primoz eh?
Ryan has the athleticism and energy to do more minutes but his lack of experience is his down factor. I would like to see more of his style of play though and I want to see how far he can improve.
The thing is, Ryan cant shoot from all over Primoz can. Primoz can shoot from far (not 3pt) but a good variety of places. Downside for Primoz is that he isnt defensive and not hungry for the basket (i forgot the word)
He doesnt do much dunks and does lay ups instead and most of the time they miss. He has good rebounding skills but still, he needs more offensive authority.
I say even out their times, 50/50

Primoz may be able to shoot, but he hasn't done it this year and people drive on him as if it's nothing.
Another factor is that we haven't won with Primoz in there, and we constantly get beat on the boards, especially offensive boards. This is a huge factor in why we lose. I'd give Hollins a try. What's the worst that could happen...losing? Wouldn't be new or any worse than Primoz's game.
P.S. I'd much rather give the baskets Primoz would have gotten to Okafor or May.
