Jerry West has said that he is going to deal Pao Gasol. After firing up the ESPN Trade Checker (http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=2776~1026~996&teams=29~29~30) I came up with Sean May and Gerald Wallace / Pao Gasol. Anytime you can get a 7 foot scoring / rebounding / all-star forward like Gasol, you have to do it. There are 2 problems though.
First Jerry West says that he isn't going to make this deal unless it makes the Grizzlies substantially better. I think this deal would do it, because it gives them a super athletic SF to pair with Rudy Gay at SG and it gives them a more than adequate PF in Sean May.
Second, Pao says that he wants to go to a contender... This is where the sales job will need to come in. We'll need to sell him on what our roster will look like NEXT season. We could have a roster with Raymond, Morrison, Carroll, Pao, Emeka, 1 or 2 lottery picks and an impact free agent. That has to look better than the mess thats the Grizzlies roster.
One other thing that makes this look good from a Bobcats perspective is this trade could really turn out being Sean May and cap space for Pao, because I'm not convinced that Gerald is going to re-sign her this off-season. So if we don't move him, we may lose him for nothing.
Thoughts?

I would really hate giving up May more than Crash in all honestly but I'd do it reguardless.

i dunno, morrison would then have to carry the load from the wing, and i don't think he's ready to do that. it would definitely improve our inside game and primoz would be a backup (which is good) but we are sacrificing depth (may) and we are taking on a big contract before we are even able to hit the free agent market. i'm not sold on doing it

How about Morrison and another player for Gasol? I'll take that.

I think Morrison and another player would get the trade done. Prior to the draft last summer, It was obvious that Jerry West had a severe hard on for Adam Morrison.

i think morrison will be here until his first contract is up, which i think is two more years.
Primoz, Gerald Wallace ..... thats about 8 mil in contracts for gasols likely at least 12-13 million... so cap hit is minimum and we can still hit free agency hard if we want to.
They get in return an atheletic G, F combo and a 7 footer, to ease the pain without gasol.
we dont lose any youth and gain an all star. an offensive presence to combine with oakafor and sean may to relieve both of them.
fun to think about, but we all know that the bobcats arent gonna do anything this year, we will be lucky if they do anything splash worthy in free agency.

Jerry West, publicly said that even though pau wants out of memphis, there was very little chance of it happening. His price would likely be too high for anyone, and he says the grizz problems arent in the frontcourt... its the back court that sucks
so far the bobcats arent on the trade radar. (which really doesnt mean anything except that ESPN hasnt heard about anything yet). I personally wouldnt mind him, but i just dont see him as a player in BB's mindset. He already has a soft defense playing 7 foot european. Of course i dont know anything, i just dont see it happenin for us.
i think he will likely stay in memphis. but its still fun to talk about,.

It would be nice to give one UNC player and G-Force who is a free agent after this year for an All-Star forward. It would be worth it and May hasn't been producing as of late, he did get hurt though. I would love to see this trade go down.

May is solid and I'm sure that he'll be good in the future, but theres no way Sean is better than Pao at this point.
Pao >>> Sean

dav you do realize this is the NBA. a professional basketball league. It in fact pays athletes to play the sport of basketball. It in no way shape or form matters one freakin iota, where any of these guys played their college basketball. just how well they do it at this level. Just because Sean May played at UNC doesnt make him better than anyone. In fact, sean may doesnt start, he plays around 16 minutes a game if not less and hes constantly injured. If you wanna compare that to the all star gasol, go right ahead but no one else wants to hear it. I would trade one, two maybe even all three UNC players on this team for Pau Gasol. Im more impressed with the graduates of UCONN than UNC.
Now if you wanted to go to the UNC website and fondle yourself thinkin about the tarholes, and talk about players that played at carolina past present and future. go right ahead. in fact you can even do that in certain sections at this very website. but its not very appropriate for this thread. or any others inside Bobcats Talk. In fact you can go ahead and start a thread in the UNC forum about how those dummies accidently sent out 2700 acceptance letters. that would be a good start

I'd do all trades proposed before in a heartbeat. But there's no way neither Jerry West, nor Pau Gasol would accept them. Pau is much more valuable player than they get back. I'd be willing to give Primoz+Gerald+May, but if I were West, I wouldn't accept it either. We'd have to give up our 1st pick first of all.
And from Pau's viewpoint, he wants play for a contender, not for a team which actually has no significant difference from his current club.

Mustachio, your name must be JJ Redick or Christian Laettner for all the UNC hate.
And you guys are correct. We have nothing that Memphis really wants, on the terms of a Pau Gasol return. What's his contract look like?
I honestly think we should aim for Josh Howard instead. He plays 2nd tier to Nowitzki. What do you guys think of Gerald Wallace and Sean May and a 2nd rounder for Josh Howard?

we would have to give up 3/5 of our starters for west to even consider dealing gasol. his trade value is way too high, i don't think anyone will be making a move for him.
i like josh howard, but there's nothing in his game that would suggest he comes to charlotte and becomes 'the guy.' i think he's a lot more comfortable playing on a team where he doesn't have to score 30 pts a night to have a shot at winning. and if you're going to give up players like wallace and may to get someone, they better come in and be 'the guy.'
and can we get over this UNC obsession? yes there are 3 former UNC players on the bobcats roster. the key word there is FORMER. it doesn't make them a better NBA player. it doesn't make them a worse NBA player. where you come from has nothing to do with how good you are. hell, emeka and jake voskuhl both came from UCONN, and i think we can all agree that they're on slightly different levels.

dude bumpus i have not one thing against the university. thats a great program. i just cant handle all the fans with their egomaniacal stance on everything. they think everyone just thinks about carolina all the time like they do. I dont like duke either... i like their fans better... but i hold disdain for both schools equally.
point is... it shouldnt come into every conversation on this board... about whos a tarheel or who isnt. who gives a rats ass ya know... it makes not one single difference in this league where they played college ball. Uconn duke or unc.... doesnt matter. no big deal... just had to get that off my chest haha.
go bobcats... and not just the three who went to carolina.
