I haven't heard any updates on the results of Emeka's MRI. Lets hope that it isn't something thats going to shut him down for several weeks, Because if we don't have Mek in the lineup then guys like Lamarcus Aldridge end up looking like Tim Duncan. :-\

From Bonnell's latest blog:
Mentioned the above to soften the blow of whats to follow: The Bobcats are done for the season. Im thinking seven wins the rest of the way, assuming Emeka Okafors calf strain is as bad as it appears.
So much for playing our way out of the Oden/Durant sweepstakes.

this could be a good injury for us
it might make him cheaper to re-sign and we'll get a higher draft pick

that is true rally. it could be a blessing in disguise that will give hollins and others time to develop in games. also will force g-force to diversify his offense even more. along with re-signing him for cheaper and better lottery position because i've given up on the playoffs now.

It'll definitely get us a better draft pick, but it won't save us money. I don't think that Emeka will take 1 cent less than a max deal... If I were him, I wouldn't.

At least we wouldn't be losing on purpose now.
Okafor's tag might be less than a max due to the injury, but who knows? This year is a buyer's market. Hopefully we can score some help for the team this year, the top 25 from another thread looked relatively attractive if the price is right.

I can't imagine any other team offering Okafor the maximum so I think it would be pretty stupid for us to offer it to him.
No one has much cap room, he's had durability issues throughout his college & pro career, and he isn't even a bonafide all-star.
I hate Okafor for the max.
I say he gets 5 years, 60-65 million and honestly we could sign him for less than that (since no one else could really offer him more) but when handing out guaranteed contracts you don't really want to lowball someone and make them a malcontent.

Okafor will get the max. Hes in the top 5 in the league in rebounding and shot blocking, and its become real obvious over the past week that this team is lost without him.
If I were Emeka, I would sign a max deal or nothing at all.

^ Then you'd probably get nothing cause no one has max room except for us.

Emeka will get a good contract . I dont know about a max deal but its the BOBCATS responability to resign him as cheap as possable . And im sure they will know what his market value will be.

rally hes a big that is in the top 5 in blocks and rebounds. a constant defensive threat and the keystone of the current bobcats team... as far as im concerned... hes the only untouchable on the team.
if thats not max deal i dont know what is.

Must i dont disagree with you at all . I just dont know who should get max contracts. Okafor is our key player and conor stone . But if Wallace is just worth just 50 mil is Okafor worth 100mil is he twice as good as Wallace.
Yoiu guys tell me and tell me how hes that much better than Wallace.
I DONT KNOW seems like both of them are good .
I JUST DONT WANT TO GET IN TO THAT ZO- L.J. thing.

If we don't offer him max money we run the risk of a disgruntled player. Without Crash our odds of winning are slim, but without Mek the odds are almost 0.
Check out Bonnell's latest headline:
Bobcats defenseless without Okafor
Team 0-3, yielding 121 points a game since Okafor's injury
And one of those was against Portland for Christ's sake.
We are lost without Emeka. We're a small market team that could have trouble bringing in quality players. We're not threatening anyone for a title.
Pay the man.

There was more good news in the Observer today, Emeka won't need need surgery on that calf. The injury will probably keep him out the remainder of the west coast trip, but it won't be something that puts him out long term.
