AP Sports Writer
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Bernie Bickerstaff will not return as
coach of the Charlotte Bobcats next season, but will be invited to
stay with the organization.
Part-owner Michael Jordan said Tuesday that Bickerstaff, who
also serves as general manager, is an "integral part" of the
franchise. Charlotte is 23-41 and last in the Southeast Division.
"I don't see him distancing himself away," Jordan said. "I
feel he's been an important part to getting this franchise to where
it is now. It will give me the most pleasure to continue that
process until we get to where we have to go."
Bickerstaff, 67-161 in three seasons, said when he was first
hired to run the expansion team that he wanted to coach for only
two or three years before becoming the full-time general manager.
But when Jordan was brought in as a minority owner and given the
final say on basketball decisions, Bickerstaff's future was in
doubt.
"I want him involved," Jordan said. "We just haven't decided
if that's as general manager or president of basketball operations.
I see him staying with the organization."
Jordan, in his first meeting with local reporters since June,
said he has yet to begin a search for a new coach.

while bernie is not the best coach, he has done about as well as anyone could with what he was given to work with (wallace, okafor, may have all missed significant time in the last 2 years). hopefully we'll hire a true student of the game to be at the helm

I for one am glad to see him go. I am so sick of that SMALL line up consisting of a 6.2 shooting guard and a 5 .10 point
No ill feelings to Bernie but glad to see you go.....

There are two things that will make my happier.
1. Raptors winning an NBA Title.
2. Adam Morrison getting a haircut and getting rid of that pathetic facial growth :afro:

and to our resident Raptors fan: your announcers pissed me off during our last game - big time. that "ham and salami" routine was infuriating, and way premature. It left me hating your team, and hoping for some big time payback in April. Anyone who was watching on League Pass will know what i'm talking about.

I don't want to begin parades until I hear the next coach. In Turkey, old people says something like that "the newcomer always makes people look for the predecessor"
I'm a little uncomfortable with the process. Jordan announces this, not Bickerstaff himself. There may be something which aren't nice between jordan and BB. And subsequently that move would lead Bernie to leave the club completely. And we have to admit that he's been a decent GM. Like him or not, he coached and directed the club for the first 3 years, which are probably the hardest ones.
Of course it's good to hear him leaving coaching, however I'd like to thank to him.
And Bumpus, Hallelujah is absolutely the Post of the year. Magnificent idea.

Maybe if he was hung out to dry, but it stated he's still got a job with the team as president of player personnel or GM, etc. so he's still involved - he wasn't planning on being a coach past year 3.
