It's rumored on Yahoo that he might be considered for the coaching job.

What might he bring to the table?

All I know is that he was the Wizards assistant coach for one year and this is his second year as a assistant coach in Houston.

quotes from Rockets coach Jeff Van Guny (used to coach Ewing in New York):
Patrick is a great competitor who is now learning the business from the sidelines"
He stands as a great example for what we want our players to be: dedicated, hard-working and team-oriented.

here is his link as a coach from nba.com:

i think he would be a good coach but if he becomes the coach then Patrick Ewing Jr. is a defenite future bobcat

I'm not sure Bumpus but I think it would be great to have someone like Ewing working with our young big man.

If Patrick Ewing were running the show, you better believe that Emeka would get more than 11 or 12 shots a game.

Big Slam,
I'm kind of torn on Patrick Ewing as a coach. I wish he had more experience, but on the positive side Hes a leader and he has plenty of fire in his belly. What are your thoughts on him?

Im kinda torn about Ewing . I think Okafor would benefit and all the other bigs we have on the roster. I all so think he would get rid of the so called small line up. Of to points playing at the same time. As tough as Ewing was i all so think we would get and play a lot tougher and bigger. But getting Ewing makes me hope he has the knowledge to take us to the next level. I just wish he had a little head coaching under his belt.

Zig: Wouldn't like him as a head coach but would LOVE him as a top assistant to, as you said, work with EO50 and Twiggy.

Ewing never struck me as a player with a huge ball IQ. He's one of those guy's who was brilliant at the game through natural ability.

Eg: I think Shaq would make an amazing head coach one day. That guy is so smart on the court that it just aint funny. I've always said that he's a guard trapped in a huge mans body. He sees things and creates things that not only do not most big men see, but most guards don't see either. He has a wonderful understanding of the game.

I think a guy like Reggie Miller would be a better head coach that Ewing. Reggie understands angles, how to work with and without the ball, defense (wasn't great at it but knew how to shake it and what worked) and was a competitor.

So, to answer you Zig - would love to have Ewing as an assistant, not as a head coach.

For the record - I HATED Reggie as a player!!

Of course, if I was a Pacers fan, I would have loved him. He's that sort of dude.

i wouldn't be oppoesd to patrick coaching the 'cats. i think he would make okafor great, but all i can do is question his game management skills. he def has a good understanding of the game
