Wow :hypo: after the first weekend, The Mavs, Spurs and the defending champion Heat are all down 0-1. It looks like the playoffs are going to be wild this season.

I'll sticky this thread for all that want to talk NBA playoffs.

The Heat thought that they'd be able to crank up their intensity at playoff time, but age and injuries caught up with them.

With the Heat gone, that clears the path for the Pistons in the East.

The series should have been over Tuesday. After Baron hit that 3 right after Harris almost ripped him I thought the game was over, but of course Dirk had to come down the court and hit those 3's. Tonight GS closes it out and becomes the first 8 seed to beat a 1 seed in a series of 7.

The warriors are a very fun team to watch. Baron Davis has been nearly unstoppable.

One player that I've liked and would want on my team is Matt Barnes. He's an all out guy that does those things that get a team to win. With his hustle he'd be a good asset.

It's a big upset though. If Houston comes from other match-up, I strongly believe that Warriors rise up to the West finals, but if Utah comes I don't give them much chances. Anyway, they did a great job. But Mavericks don't need radical moves IMHO, they still have a very good core, they'll be champions very soon.

Dead_Real
05-04-2007, 09:48 AM
The Warriors are a scary team in the West especially if they go deep into the playoffs which I expect them to do.

GS actually won the season series against the suns...because they could play small ball faster and actually keep up with the suns. I think the suns are a better team but I'd much rather have GS win this one after how they played against the Mavs.

I can see GS beating Houston because Ming can't play quick, and GS can shut down Mcgrady like they did Dirk.

Utah....I don't know. Deron Williams, Boozer, Kirilenko and Okur is one tough matchup. Fortunately for GS they have momentum.

Wallace15
05-04-2007, 02:13 PM
If GS has to play Utah in the next series then I'll think they'll lose. They don't match up as well with Utah as they do Houston, but if they get to play Houston then I think for sure they'll move on the the WCF. Yao can't play quick, and like some of you has said. They'll shut down Tracy like they did Dirk.

I haven't watched a full game yet. But as to what I've seen on ESPN it looks more like Boozer is the man that should get the credit for Utah playing so well. I might be wrong but hasn't he put up like 40 twice so far! The guy is playing great.

Wallace15
05-10-2007, 09:05 PM
Boozer has been a beast in the playoffs so far, but I think the Warriors win the next 2. They haven't lost at home yet in the playoffs. Dallas didn't beat GS in Oakland, and niether will the Jazz.
I love watching GS play in Oakland. The fans there are insane.

tamburello
05-11-2007, 01:38 PM
If Jazz can steal one game in Oakland, we may clearly say that this serie is over. This looks so likely to me, because we can easily say that Warriors still aren't able to find a match-up for Boozer and even Mehmet Okur. Didn't you see the rebound difference after G2? 60 to 32. That's too much to overcome IMHO.

However they were still able to mak it 1-1 if Davis had done the FT. Let's see what happens in CA. I'll be watching this game here at 4 am.

Wallace15
05-11-2007, 05:13 PM
Yeah, if the Jazz win one in Oak then this series is definately over, but the Jazz are out rebounding the Warriors like crazy. Though, even with the big rebound margin the Jazz have over the Warriors they haven't got blown out yet. With that big of a rebound margin you should be blowing teams out, but the Warriors have been in both games till the end.
Baron Davis hits that FT at the end of game 2 and series would be 1-1 right now.

Utah will be rested but do you think that Boozer can handle Duncan? Or either of the Jazz's guards being able to stay with Parker or Ginobili? I don't. Spurs in 5. Ofcoarse it's a different ball game if they go up against the suns. That would be a good series, probably go 6 or 7 games.

now that Utah advances (and thus ending the warriors magical playoff run) i think they'd put on a fight against any of those two teams, since they'll be getting some rest. but i think can't get past through either teams since they still don't have much experience like the suns or spurs.

Jonathanmartin7
05-16-2007, 11:34 AM
I don't think they have a good enough team to beat the suns or spurs. They have been playing well I'll give them that. But the Spurs are a TEAM, not just a group of players. The Jazz have not played together enough to be that type of team yet. IMO

dvdbumpus
05-16-2007, 12:15 PM
Just like the Pistons, The spurs have been through all this before. They have the depth, the talent, and the whole package to drill right to the finals.

Duncan > Howard
Parker > Williams
Ginobli > fisher, etc.

tamburello
05-16-2007, 12:47 PM
I'm not saying Utah will be the favorite against these teams, but they have chance and don't be surprised if they pop out. Spurs have arguably the most experienced roster in any playoff teams right now(maybe Pistons would be rival in such case). But..

Jazz is much more like a team than you've given credit for. Maybe the only NBA team that plays with a team oriented style, not a superstar oriented one. If they weren't team, they wouldn't be able to defeat two totally different basketball styles, slowing the game as hell and galloping all the time, respectively. If you look at players of both teams one by one, you may not see Jazz players as great. But they form a wonderful relationship when they're on the court. Also I'd like to add something to your list.

Kirilenko(with his recent form)>>>>any of Spurs SF's. He can very well lock down Ginobili.
Okur>>Oberto, Elson vs. In any case, Jazz have a cumulatively better frontcourt, IMHO. And probably Okur will match Duncan, not Boozer in the defensive end.
Also I can always argue whether Parker is better than Deron.

In recent years I watched a lot of Spurs-Jazz game on TV and observed that both teams play much better at their homecourts. If Jazz could steal 1 game in the first 2, then let's what happens.

and just a sidenote, Jazz are 3-1 this season against Suns and they split 4 games with Spurs at home. Don't say these records mean nothing, they "may" mean something, recall what happened to Dallas.

Jonathanmartin7
05-16-2007, 05:52 PM
Also I can always argue whether Parker is better than Deron.

No you can't argue that, Deron is not a top 5 pg, maybe not even in the top 10! Parker will eat him alive! Okur will match Ducan? Okur's awesome on the outside but has nothing for Duncan on the inside(neither does anybody else on their roster). AK47 is going to probably be guarding Finley, not Ginobili. Which ever one he doesn't guard will not have anybody able to contain them. I'll say it, the regular season doesn't mean squat! The pressure is on now, this is what big time players get payed to do. Play in the playoffs, to much talent and experience on the Spurs side. Get out the brooms cause this will likely be a sweep!
Ofcoarse the Jazz are there and the Spurs still have to get by the Suns.

I'd like to point out Ziggy, Jonathonmartic7, Eaton_brandon1, Tamburello, Tadsz, Wallace15 and all the other doubters of me and the Cavs making the finals

Oh and Ziggy, I noticed something you said:

Everyone agree that it's gonna be SA and DET in the finals?
Yep, Bet the rent money on it

Where's my money??

I'm in shock. but I'll give you a rep point for that one. No way I thought it would go 6 games at all! much less the Cavs winning it in 6! sheez.

Want to place anything on them not beating SA?
they may win a game but I really don't think so.

IMO there's definitely going to be a revamp on some eastern nba favorite next year...

Haha. Detroit is one thing, but SA are some stone cold killers :hypo: They're also dirty players.

I don't think it's Cleveland's time, but SA doesn't respect Cleveland in the least. Spurs in 7. The reason I think this is because Cleveland beat SA both times they played in the regular season - they outrebounded, outhustled, and outshot them both times. SA was outplayed, and I think Cleveland can make it a series. It will be closer then many people think.

Rooting for Cleveland though!

Bumpus you called it! I was a doubter and didn't think that the Cavs could get by the Pistons, but now - I AM A WITNESS -

I'll payoff this one with much rep, you earned it by calling this series early and sticking to your guns when they were down 0-2.

What are your thoughts with their matchup against the Spurs?

tamburello
06-03-2007, 09:10 AM
Well done Bumpus. But if today they'd face again, I'd go for Pistons again. I've always hated LeBron and Co. so I don't want to see them winning. However, they deserved it congratulations Cavs. And we have clearly understood that Pistons dynasty is reached the end.

But how far can Cavs go without a PG? I think it's time to stop for them. So I think Spurs will win in 6 games.

im not a cavs fan at all either, an i think thebron gives himself too much credit... but now maybe hes gonna earn all the hype.

Secondly just cause i hate the cavs, doesnt change my utter disdain for the pistons. they are all that sucks about basketball. its just boring terrible to watch. the nba had better be thankful the cavs won. cause no one was gonna watch the stinkfest that Piston/spurs would have been.

and since the cavs may own the eastern conference for a while, i gotta cheer for the east to get some credit back to our conference/

I'm one that would have watched no matter who was there. I think Lebron is overated as they get. He had a great game but not a top 5 overall game. Top 20 maybe. I'll be rooting for Timmy to get another ring.

Damn, suprised the hell out of me that they beat Detroit. Especialy in only 6 games. I give props to Lebron, and I'll be rooting for Lebron and the Cavs in the finals.

I wanna say that the Cavs beat SA in the finals, but everytime I choose a team to win they lose. I don't wanna jinx the Cavs like I jinxed the Pistons.

The Spurs will take the finals mark my words don't think anyone will stop Duncan from having huge games throughout this series.

Gibson will have to put up 20+ a night for the Cavs to have a chance in this series.

Wallace15

Not a good night for Lebron lastnight. Only 14 points on 4-16 shooting. The Cavs better hope he can find his shot because if not, they have no chance in this series. They also gotta find a way to slow down Timmy and Parker. They killed them last night.

The cavs got screwed in the final seconds. Bruce Bowen OBVIOUSLY fouled LBJ (See, dry humping his arm in the act of shooting a 3) and it was not called.

F*ckin officials....yet another chapter of Bruce Bowen'ess.

yep, it was clearly a foul, but Cleveland shouldn't have left the game in the refs' hands. from the looks of it, this series is over. :(

yeah...it sucks but when you do that you never win. Lebron is the next MJ(Magic Johnson) but it'll take a few years and some actual teammates.

When Bowen fouled LeBron, I think he didn't begin the shooting act(LeBron thought refs would call foul and maybe they'd give 3 fts, so he threw the ball almost from half court, but refs didn't call foul and shot didn't fall expectedly) and since Spurs were under the limit, Cavs would begin the game from out of bounds with 2-3 seconds left. I mean, they could still have a chance but referees didn't kill the Cavs in my opinion. Both teams had tons of chances but couldn't convert them. Spurs over-experienced Cavs and the worst player of the match, Ginobili sealed the deal with 3 free throws.

Cavs and LeBron should be angry with themselves, if they will.

The Cavs had plenty of chances to take the lead down the stretch. They just couldn't convert, but Lebron was in the act of shooting when Bowen fouled him and he should have been rewarded 3 FT's. Cavs got played I guess.

that's exactly why no one but cavs themselves are to be blamed in that game.
they are in the finals, and there are no excuses in such. win or go home.
