The book on Brandon Wright is that hes a tremendous athlete, talented but raw, has the potential to be a superstar but doesn't show it consistently on the court. Wasn't there another UNC freshman forward that fit this description that came out just 2 years back, one that really could have benefitted from another year of college.... Oh yeah, Marvin Williams.

For the Wright supporters out there, tell me what makes Brandon more likely to succeed in the pros than Marvin Williams who has done very little with the Hawks.

Both needed to add more strength, both had weak post skills, athletic demons who are versatile and have high potential.....BUT both had a lack of passion.

marvin williams tried too hard to be a big perimeter player like kevin garnett taking lots of 3s and perimeter jumpers. brandan wright is a post player in the mold of a young chris bosh (who many said could have used another year in college to get stronger). do not knock wright's passion because he tries very hard especially blocking shots, rebounding and running the floor. he may not have shown much "passion" on offense because he was unc's 2nd or 3rd option (hansbrough and terry/ellington got lots of touches). i think he'll be a great player, just not immediately

Its very hard to compare the two for me. I just see so many differances in thair games . Williams was quick could jump but couldnt shoot. His defence was behind too. I still have no idea why he went no.1in the draft.
Wright on the other hand is a carbin copy of Sam Perkins, They call him smooth sam because never got upset. Bote have hudge wing spans with WRIGHTS just a little longer . Both have good hook shots with both hands. Both could hit a 10 to 12 footer . Both players at about 6.11 and can block shots and run the floor Wright may be just a little quicker. Sam devoloped a 3 point jumper about in his 5th year. Hard to think Wright would do that too.
Sam had a great carer hard to think Wright will do any thing other than have a great carer.Buts its hard to compare to players so different....in Wright and williams

I know a lot of players have an outside offensive game that doesn't show up in the pros (May being a good example)...does Wright actually have any range outside of 10-12 feet? If he does I'd feel a lot better in taking him and hoping he turns out like Bosh down the road.

Main difference I see between them is in defense. Also you have to remember Marvin had a lot of injuries at first, but is getting better and better by the month. You probably won't get many ATL fans to give up on him yet, and I think rightly so.

I dont think Wright has any thing out side of 10 to 12 foot at least not that ive seen.
But Williams is about 6.8 and hes really a three.
Wright is about 6.11 and plays a four. But hes not going to play like Bosh . Bosh is more physical, player
Like i say hes a Sam PERKINS ALL OVER .

wright has very little range on his shot as evidence by his poor free throw shooting, but remember he is 19 and has lots of time to put on weight and muscle with an nba strength training program. his hook has not been stopped and after watching him every game this season, rarely misses it when he has good position. wright could help his shot by flattening it out, it seems to have excessive arc on it and lots of extra movements in his arms during his shot, but those things are correctable.

We've gotta keep in mind many of the guys with super high potential and showed a lack of passion in college turned out OK in the pros. Just look at the Uconn guys : Charlie Villanueva and Rudy Gay. Both lacked "passion" but given better competition turned out fine.

captain are you mad that the fake usc and carolina has no one getting drafted again this year?

Nice comparison idea, but I don't see much resemblance. Agree much with what Dav7z is saying.

And I don't get the outside shot worries; Wright is an inside player all the way, and a really good one. Some team at 3 or 4 is going to get a gem. I wouldn't criticize OK50 for not having a perimeter game.

And May has a wonderful outside shot, one of the best around..but his game is inside first, perimeter second. Sorry, don't understand.

Keetch, I'm thinking of pairings with Emeka. If whoever we eventually pair him with has a 15-20 ftr that would help to spread the defense somewhat, giving Mek more room to "work".

If Primoz could actually play defense he'd be a great sidekick...but might as well wish for a growth spurt of 4" for May.
