I have read from multiple areas that Sam Vincent is to be the next Bobcats Coach! While not official, sources say this:
Mavericks assistant Sam Vincent has emerged as the lopsided choice to become the Bobcats' new head coach, a Charlotte hall monitor reveals.
Of the six candidates initially interviewed by Michael Jordan and Bernie Bickerstaff - including Mike Fratello, Stan Van Gundy, Paul Silas and Herb Williams - the persuasive extrovert was the only one invited back. "Unless a fascinating nominee suddenly materializes, it's Sam's job to lose. Michael was very impressed by his comprehensive coaching approach."

And here is the article stating Vincent is going to have a 2nd interview:

Heres' my thing. I'm pretty excited about his wide array of coaching all over. I think that if he is picked that we may lean towards drafting international talents like Marco Bellinelli, Marc Gasol, or Tiago Splitter. While none are the #8 pick, that will definitely help.
He also has NBDL coaching experience, so he should be excellent in filling out the roster with NBDL talent.
I like the choice

I don't think we all know enough about him to really believe if it's a good hire or not, but me personally I think he's a good, but not great hire. I wanted Silas, but Jordan wants the young energetic guy like Avery Johnson so I guess he makes the most sense. I'd be happy with almost anyone though.

I don't really know enough about him to really have an opinion on him, but if Bickerstaff and Jordan think he'll do well with all of our young players and can take us to the playoffs then hire him.

I'm still puzzled as to why they haven't tried to interview Iavaroni.

Iavaroni probably will be asking too much in terms of salary. Vincent is a cheaper option, which can allow us to gear up for a free agent signing or a large trade.
Or here's another thought: most ping pong balls for Greg Oden. Why else would he consider Memphis, where San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and New Orleans are??? Those teams AVERAGED 54 wins...more than any team in the East.
Other than those, The only reason I can think of is that he isn't one of Jordan's close friends.

Vincent played 1.5 years with Jordan.
His coaching experiences include Nigerian national team(both women and men).
What made me convinced about is his last experience with Nigeria. In 2006 WC in Japan, as I learnt he coached Nigeria and defeated Serbia&Montenegro. S&M wasn't able to bring his best players, OK, but this is a great achievement whatever. In second stage, he lost to Dirk's Germany by only one point. He's quite successful in international basketball, and he was one-time chammpion and one-time finalist in NBDL. I fully believe that he can carry his success to the NBA level.

That certainly is a great achievement, I was unaware of it.

i also thought his experience overseas was on playing than on coaching... my bad. this guy sure is winner with budding teams...

He's a good choice, I just hope they don't lock him up with a long, expensive contract from the get go. Which is doubtful considering Bob is still running the show.

i like the fact that they are running with the NBA here.
we could have made the stuffy, safe stagnant choice in larry brown, or someone like that.
But you get the same results ya know.
We got a guy that excells in the Euro style which is what the NBA is quickly sliding into. Thinking ahead of the curve.
Lets just hope it pays off, and he comes through as a good choice.
Basically i just wanted a calm, respected players coach, who doesnt get in his players way and i think thats what we got.
we shall see.

I keep hearing that Vincent will do wonders for Rays developement as well I hope the critics are right.

Yes, it'll definitely help Ray because he was a Point guard on teams with MJ and Shawn Kemp.
It's definitely good that he coaches a euro style, which will fit the team perfect, and that he is a defensive oriented players coach.

This was a good hire. There is no reason to spend a lot of money on a coach when we don't have the talent in place to compete for a championship.
I'd hate to think we cheaped out on a bid to re-sign Gerald Wallace because we tied up money in a coaching hire.

Coaches salary has nothing to do with the salary cap. so signing a coach for a lot of money would not prevent us from buyin up talent.
Most of the money used to sign players is from TV deals and we have a cap... that keeps spending fair in the NBA. Teams struggle financially when they cant afford operating cost which is arena cost, advertising cost, employee(non-player).
Just because a coach is cheap salary wise, has nothing to do with his ability to coach either.

I think everyone knows that coaches don't count against the salary cap and I'm not sure if my post implied that.
Our team is struggling financially though so our operating expenses ARE in fact tied to our player salaries. Bob is writing this franchise off as a big loss and you won't see him writing blank checks right now so signing a $5 million/year head coach would certainly impact our ability to sign/extend players contracts.
And yes the "cap" helps even things out across the board a little bit but its a soft cap not a hard one so teams with big wallets certainly have an advantage over the ones that don't. Teams like Dallas are willing to spend the extra money to make their teams as competitive as possible whereas teams like Phoenix have made moves to save money that have cost them big the past few years (trading Deng to avoid the luxury tax for example)
