View Full Version : Free Agency????

I keep hearing little things like the Bobcats are gonna make a splash and get one of the big FA's... people keep bringin it up like its a sure thing that we will take 2 draftees and then go buy a high priced FA just cause we have the money.
but really the only way i can see us getting one of the bigger guys like rashard lewis, is if we let Crash go.
and then once you go get that guy, is he gonna put you in the finals??? very doubtful.
at this point in the bobcats timeline, i just dont see Free Agency as that much help. Its mostly just a way to spend money and fill a couple extra seats (something Lewis would barely do).
i just dont see how having a log jam at the SF spot can be a good thing for the Bobcats. Lewis, Crash, Ammo, Herman, Anderson, draft pick (thorton). i mean while three or so of these guys just sit on the bench, our front court will be floundering..
does anyone agree with me that we dont really need another SF and that going out and getting Lewis or Carter... is just gonna set the team back, financially and mentally?
i would like to see us just save some of that cap, spend on Wallace get a low priced FA big maybe.
Does anyone really think that adding lewis while subtracting Crash is gonna equal a ton more wins this year?

In the current situation, biggest names are Lewis and Carter, as you said. But if we re-sign Gerald that would be the biggest free agent signing imho. And while we have Crash, paying big money to Lewis is just meaningless. And although we desperately Carter imho, there aren't suitable conditions to get him.
So going for other options(cheaper ones) is better. Next year, Okafor's extension will kick and we'll no longer have that huge cap space as much as we do at the moment. But signing players to splash would be simply betrayal to the club and fans.
What we should do is searching for trades with clubs which are trying to dump salary for luxury tax reasons.

I agree signing a Lewis for a crash makes no sence. Carter all so seems like a balloon contract too.
But i do expect for us to put a couple of pieces in place in the free agent market. I think Jamison would be a nice addition if he we play in Charlotte for less money like he said he would . The back up center for the magic i think might fit well but i cant think of his name might be another target. The 8th pick im all most sure is gone all ready along with B.K. . But i dont know for who or what. We may be all so giving up the 22nd pick two and just looking at nondrafted players.
I think its a biger chance we pick up K.G. than a Carter or a Lewis.

well it definetly looks like no one is getting Lewis now, he may have to remain a Sonic(which sucks for him and Seattle cause they got nowhere for Durant now??).
His new agent apparently screwed up royally.
He was supposed to declare in righting by a certain time, his intention of leaving for free agency and DID NOT do it.
hes gonna make 20 mil over the next two seasons... but with a free agent contract could have made him around 70 mil over the next 5 years. how do you tell your client i just screwed you out of 50 million dollars?!?!?!?!?!
good news is.. we aint gonna spend the money on him!

That's not a proved fact yet. Only rumor. But if that's happened, agent would need to pay the difference between salaries by himself.

Originally I liked the idea of Vince, but after thinking it over I've changed my mind.
I don't want VC, Rashard, or Billups. What I want with a "big splash" is crash and Jamison. I expect Crash as a near lock to resign with us, and Jamison as a 20% chance.
One person I'd like to see us take a gamble on is Travis Outlaw. I saw him play against GS the last game of the season and he was on fire (36 pts 10 boards) and is only 22. He might be worth a gamble to replace A. Anderson.
Maybe Chris Mihm if he came cheap and we lost Hollins. I think he would be more solid than Othella would be.
Here is a thread of the top 25 FA's from a long while back:

Yeah, I've sort of 'cooled-off' on the whole free agency thing. The HIGHEST priority is resigning GW. Anything else is icing. There's no need to throw money around just because we have some to spend (this concept is causing Bob Johnson to grin from ear to ear!). If the signing helps the team, I'm all for it, but like the rest, Lewis nor VC will help the team, especially in terms of chemistry. That said, Antawn would be a great fit with us, and I'd be thrilled to have him on the team! A scorer who can play the 4, rebound, and step outside: not just because he's one of my alltime favorite 'Heels, but he is the much more practical option than anyone else out there.

how about my man darko milicic? any thoughts?
if we get him, then we don't need to get a big man on the draft, hence passing up noah (yesh, hehe) and focus on drafting a shooting guard, which i believe is our current need, and not to mention our two picks (8 & 22) would definitely give us a steal and/or another PG to back up felton if that's the case.

i wouldnt mind darko or jamison... two guys who can play in the front court at reasonable prices.
darko and primoz rotating in and out may actually equal one pretty good center. blunder-twins activate!!!

1. Sign Crash
2. Resign Okafor
3. Jamison
4. Resign Matt
5. Darko (high risk high reward; ALso rumored Orlando will match offers)
6. Travis Outlaw (to replace A. Anderson)

1 through 4 (in that order, to boot) is absolutely right, bumpus! And if we can land Brewer, I'm open to 5 and/or 6. If we can get Yi (like the latest Sporting News has us), toss out 5 and I'll still be open to 6, though I'm basing that on your opinion of him; I've heard of Outlaw, but don't know what kind of player he is, or where/if he went to college.

Someone close to Brevin Knight is taking it for granted that the Bobcats will buy out the final season of Knight’s contract. The Bobcats have that option, turning a $4 million-plus obligation into a $1.5 million buy-out. That same source suspects the Bobcats could make some sort of a bid for Chauncey Billups in free-agency.
I'd love to get Billups.

not a fan of billups. solid player... but no need to break the bank with him i dont think.
Lets let raymond feel his way out man... if by the end of this year we dont think he can cut it... then make a move.
