Bill Simmons whom im sure all of you know. wrote a kind of mock lottery article or something to that effect and for the first time ever he actually gives Charlotte some love.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/070620&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab5pos1

read the whole thing if you like, its got some very interesting scenarios throughout the article and most make pretty good sense. but ill drop the Bobcats tidbit here for you lazy mugs out there.

8. Charlotte Bobcats
I'd love to see them pursue Gasol (with the No. 8, the No. 22 and May), re-sign Gerald Wallace and compete with a nucleus of Gasol, Wallace, Ray Felton, Emeka Okafor, Walter Hermann, Adam Morrison and one more free agent swingman like Mo Peterson or Desmond Mason. If they keep the pick, don't they have to take Joakim Noah here? He fits in the "guys who had success in college" theme and gives them a ton of flexibility at the 4/5 spots, right? Whatever they do, I feel like the Bobcats are closer to being good than people realize ... plus, they're the ultimate fantasy team sprung to life, just an ultra-eclectic, improbable mix of recognizable players. If there was ever a franchise that could accommodate a Paul Shirley comeback, this is it.

The VP's verdict: Make a serious run at Gasol, with Noah as the backup plan.

So id agree with that, i know Gasol not the sexiest peice to add... BUT if all we got at 8 is Thorton or Noah...
Losing May McBadknees and Noah is a minimal loss compared to adding a versatile proven 7 foot center. agreed???

Funny you posted this,

I actually couldn't believe what I was reading either. Maybe enough good Bobcats fans finally wrote him and changed his opinion on his. First time he hasn't dogged us in awhile.

As for Gasol....I don't think I would mind it, but for some reason I think we have a shot at getting Big Trouble N Little China at the eight spot. I know it sounds dumb, but i'm hoping that people get weary on him and let him fall to us. I think it's worth the risk.

for the simple fact that the nickname you just said made me laugh out loud like an idiot at work....

i hope we draft him.

haha big trouble in little china... hilarious.

and i agree, since none of this trade talk will ever come to fruition beacuase all the owners and GMs are pussies... i hope Yi or Brewer fall to us. and reading the rumor boards, it seems like Yi has a better chance of falling than Brewer does. after workouts it seems some draft gurus have him dropping to 12th?!?!? thats a little scary. but worth the risk.

A trade like that for Gasol would be great for us. Gasol is a stud. I don't think the Grizzlies are looking that way though. We'll see.

If the Celtics pass on Yi then yeah it looks like he'll drop, If by the remote chance he ended up a Bobcat, then yes it sure would be pretty exciting to watch his development. It's just not looking like its going to happen though. Other than Garnett, its looking like Yi is the major trade trigger in this year's draft, with the Bobcats very involved because of their cap space.

http://www.nba.com/draft2007/overview/cha.html

Hell, even on the NBA's draft video on the link above, all the commentators (Fred Carter, Peter Vescey) talk about is how the Bobcats will trade the pick for a veteran player.

My feeling at this time is we'll pick Brewer on the odd chance he drops (and that's looking remote), or Noah if all trade opportunities suddenly collapse. Otherwise, we're trading the pick.

I'd be all for getting Gasol for Mcmay and Noah...or most else of who is available. It's always better to get a big than to get a small!!

A lot depends on what people are offering as well. If somebody wants to overspend on Yi to get him, more power to us. If they think we're idiots and we can be walked on, well different story. I just hope we make the right deal, as it's becoming increasingly clear MJ is planning to.

also in that article, Bill Simmons himself a Celtics fan says...

he would love to trade down to number 8 with us if we really want Yi.

wed lose the 8 and 22 to the celts, but would be assured of getting either Brewer or Yi... (id personally rather go with Yi)

id wait till closer to the draft and try and feel out if we could get Yi at 8... if we can pick him.

Hes already wearing Jordans gear, and Bobcats jerseys will sell like crazy in China when hes matched up in Air Jordan gear. Yi would make this team completly sellable from top to bottom.

Ray(well known everywhere for his championship on a popular team
Adam - crazy well known cause of his looks and play
Crash - unknown, but that will soon change
Oak - well know National Champ
Yi - well publicised International star.

If Adam improves, and Yi excells as expected thats a tough lineup.

A lot depends on how well Yi works out....how has he been looking?

lookin pretty dang good to me. but chad ford doesnt mention us in this article as being interested, and we werent allowed to work him out, AND he has us taking Noah at 8 and Yi going to the bulls at 9.

i hope thats not what hes hearing out of the bobcats camp.

Getting Gasol would be awesome. With him and Okafor we'd be nearly unstoppable down low. I wouldnt't mind having Yi either. I just wanna know why we weren't allowed to work him out.

With us not being able to work him out, as well as the seemingly lack of interest of Yi working out with us, I think that we may need to consider consolation prizes. If we're not going to get Yi, or if he'd be unhappy playing here, I definitely think that Gasol would be a sweet 2nd plan of action - one that I'd probably consider before Richardson, even though j. rich is a good team guy and excellent player.

this is the best trade possible because we get a big man and we dont lose any of the core players we desperately wanna keep. and while expensive, Gasol isnt close to KG or Kobe numbers.
Gasol isnt a player you sell the farm for, but what about this as a legitimate trade offer for both teams.

the #8, Brevin Knight, Sean May

for

Pau Gasol

this works out so well for both teams its crazy.
keep in mind Gasol wanted out of Memphis, so thats in our favor. The Griz get the # 4 pick, the # 8 pick which they can combo up in so many ways... draft a big in either Wright or Horford then hope coneley jr falls to 8 or connely at 4 and Noah at 8. West is high on Noah, and the new coach thinks that PG is a pressing need.

so they get Connely jr, and brevin for tutorage and backup
they get Wright, Horford, or Noah and Sean May who could be a solid guy. if Gasol is gonna be a nuisance while in Memphis, they would be hard pressed to get a better deal than that.

and WE get to keep the # 22 Pick, which we can use to draft either a big with potential like splitter or Gasols brother(thatd be fun).. or take a SG. get brevin out of here, AND bring in one of the better faster offensive Center/PF combos in the league.

Ray, Ammo, Crash, Okafor, Gasol. Ladies and Gentleman, your 2008 Eastern Conference champions! ok maybe a bit much, but damn if it aint worth a shot.

I like the Gasol ideas, but we'll probably have to take back another bad contract...hopefully Swift, as we could use him.

Everyone wants an SG (me too!), but after BK is traded and assuming Touche' isn't coming back, we have one PG. An idea might be trading Fabio for Calderon of Toronto (this was suggested by a Raps fan on RealGM). I'd hate to move him, but you have to think his PT would go down somewhat...and his value right with it.

Just think back to the days of Corey Alexander and Kevin Burleson. We can't skimp on a backup PG.

If that trade happened, i'd be a very happy guy.

And @ 22......Rodney Stuckey? Maybe Morris Almond?

Could get Steve Blake

Good luck with Steve Blake. I think I've seen rumors of about 8 to 10 teams targeting him.

IF we could pull Stuckey at 22nd that'd be the ticket...only I doubt seriously if he will be around that long. He's 6'5", a scorer, driver and has excellent handles. IMO he could be the backup PG.

well if we get Gasol AND Swift... we can wait till next year to worry about a big man.

Our front court would be deep and talented already

Gasol, Primoz, Voshkul
Okafor, Swift, Hollins
Crash, Herman, Anderson
Ammo, Carrol, Hermann
Ray, 22nd pick maybe crittenden, or law if he drops.

Id be so happy about that lineup and potential id pee a little.

I still take a liking to Marcus Williams from Arizona, as he's only a sophmore, 6'7, and can play both guard spots.

I think we'll honestly probably keep Brevin this year, especially if Mcinnis leaves. I sure hope we draft someone else, however.

On a side note, what about Wil Conroy? We liked him as a backup last year on the summer league....

Lol Mustachio..... I heard some bad news about Law: Atlanta supposedly is guaranteeing him being drafted with their #11 pick. It's also rumored that ATL is going to trade down with Memphis or elsewhere so a team can get Horford: ATL is also interested with the pick they recieve in this JOAKIM NOAH! AHHH!!

Crittendon might drop, but he's supposedly 2 to 3 years away. As a 3rd PG the 1st year he'd be ideal, but I'd be hesitant to bring him in thinking he could log serious minutes. I'd probably take him at 22 but I'd worry that he'd be no help really this year.

Interesting thing on Law this AM...after he worked out with ATL he pulled out of one with NOK (ATL picks 11th, NOK at 13th), leading one to speculate he's been given a "promise". Since it came out Knight promised Shellhead he'd take him last year and then actually did it IMO that speculation has some legs.

Gawd I hope we move Knight...don't want him back AT ALL. I'd rather have him than Burleson, but that's not saying much.

Conroy...not as the primary backup. I think Felton needs some quality behind him to 1) push him to improve and 2) to keep him fresher and not play 40+ a game.

Once you break it down it's easy to see the PG slot as being something not that easy to take care of. Assuming we did the Gasol deal...would it be worthwhile to take Stoudemire instead of Swift? Adding in Gasol would make the big deficit not as dire.

i was just looking at the grizzlys message board...

they didnt take to kindly to Mr. Simmons trade proposal.

some of them seem to think that Gasol will be there next season. despite his whining to get out.

im definetly wiling to give up Knight, May, Brezec and the 8th for Gasol. wed still have depth and more starting talent.

Do you think Hollins will still be on the team? I think I remember only one game where he did more damage to the other team then to himself... I mean, I would like him to stay but what are the chances?

Also, why does everyone seem to have Primoz before Voshkul? I thought Voshkul proved to be a reliable back-up while Primoz did next to nothing.

Rodney Stockley's stock has been rising the last few weeks I think we have a better chance at getting Javaris at 22 he's the guy I want anyway.

I think Hollins will be released similar to what Alan Anderson was, unless he shows significant improvement in the summer league.

I hope Crittenton falls, because we sure could use him. Law will probably go to Atlanta, Stuckey to Detroit, and leaves a gap on teams that might pass him.

Will Conroy has been signed to Clippers with a team option this year. I don't think they'll let him go.

And judging Primoz by only looking at his last season is nothing but unfair. He had serious exhaustion problems just before the season and never recovered. Primoz is a valuable player but unfortunately he's the odd one right now at his position.

I think Memphis would demand more than May+Knight+8th pick for Gasol.
