My source wouldn't divulge details at all last night but I just texted them telling them I really want Monta Ellis and the #18 pick and they shot back a response "Do you ever work???? You might as well have my job!!!"
In other words i think i got it right, even though they officially cant "confirm or deny"
Anyway take it for what its worth but this person doesnt lie and i dont think theyd mislead me.
Monta Ellis is a TERRIFIC acquistion. A young scorer with ball handling skills. Great job MJ...

not to rain on your parade, but thats been reported.
why so up on Monta Ellis... seems like a wash to me.
I could be wrong but with the 8th pick we can find someone with more promise than monta right??

ok sorry didnt mean to be a dick...
monta ellis and the 18 isnt bad for one draft pick and we dont have to lose anything.
if its Noah at 8 then thank god for Ellis... if its Yi.... man i dont know, i dont like passing on a guy that could be huge... but we shall see.
anyway the monta ellis thing makes sense... hes cheaper than richardson and that will allow us more money for Free Agency next year.... when its gonna be huge.
we could potentially save money this year and spend big on someone like.... say MR. TIMMAY DUNCAN???
felton
ellis
wallace
Okafor
Duncan
hello 3 titles.

I know the Monta Ellis deal was rumored to be in the mix... but it definitely hasnt been officially reported as transpiring.
Hell, it hasnt even been reported that we're trading the pick for sure yet.
Like i said take it for what its worth, but this person knows whats going down and when i floated the monta ellis and the #18 scenario they were pretty stunned and responded in a manner that made me think it was right
Yi would be a terrible pick.
1) He's probably going to be a bust
2) He doesnt want to play in Charlotte obviously
3) Even if he's not an enormous bust, he won't be ready to contribute for a few years and we need to start winning soon

remember when i jumped all over ellis not being worth the pick.. yeah well im an idiot.

notice the nice connection between raymond and ellis.
hes able to back up raymond at point, play the 2 which we desperately need. and he is a versatile guy that means we dont have to sacrifice Ammos development.
if we add Ellis... i think we have to take 2 big men with our 18th and 22nd. Williams and Gasol... oh god this might be better than i ever imagined.
Ray, Ellis, Carrol, Morrison, Hermann, Wallace, okafor, may, williams, brezec, voshkul, gasol... thats a pretty damn good running team and everyon is pretty young, plenty of room to grow, but damn i like it.

I know Ellis is young and was a 2nd round pick in 2005 and was a most inproved player and was considered to be part of the fucture of the franize.
But i thought his contract ran out after this year. Is this a sign and trade or has he all ready signed a contract
Does any one kbnow what he makes and for how long . Just Wandering . In the long run he should be a better pick than J- RICH . Its they are both good and not enough mins to go around.

I'm kind of torn, I like Ellis and he can grow with us, but is he really a go-to guy in the clutch? Are we looking at Gerald being the guy who can create on his own when the clock is going down, or maybe they're expecting Raymond to step up and be that guy?
I like having 18 and 22 though, that gives us flexiblity to go up and get someone, or just take whoever slides to us there.

The more I think about this the more I like it, Monta would be a great SG to have, and would be a way for us too keep cap open to make a bunch of resignings and hopefully some big signings. Then with 18 we are in range to land Crittenton or Gasol or possibly even Thad Young. Then we have the 22nd to pick best player available. I like this trade a lot more than I like the J-Rich deal, and outside of staying put and taking Brewer / Wright / Yi, I like this deal.

I like Monta o.k., but we'd have a very small back court. Granted, we'd have some some serious jets out there, but I wonder if we wouldn't get exploited a lot having two guys that size on the court.
Also, Monta's contract is up next season and he may want a lot more money than we want to pay him.
I'm hoping we get the Phili deal. We could draft Nick Young for a legitimate SG, who isn't a pg or sf trying to play out of position. Then we can still possibly get Williams and either another shooter or pg with the two later picks.

I dont think Phoenix gets "exploited" when they pair Nash and Barbosa...
Likewise with Dallas when they play J.Terry and Devin Harris.
Having two guys who can score AND create is going to make our offense infinitely better

Yeah, but that's Nash and Barbosa, the mvp and the most underrated pg in the NBA, who can both hit from outside all day. For Dallas, it works, but Terry can also consistently hit outside. Until Felton gets his shot going better, I don't think it would work for us. Both Ellis and Felton are quick guys who drive to the basket. Defenses could play off them a bit, tightening things up in the middle. That would also allow them to rotate quicker to the one guy (presumably Fabio) that could hit from outside while they're on the court.
I like Ellis. I'm just not sure he's the guy we want, especially since he could be gone next year.
BTW... Ironically, the Mavs are supposedly about to ship Harris to the Bucks.

While I don't necessarily agree with you on liking this deal better than the J-Rich deal, if we can't get Brewer or Wright, then I'm happy with the trade. I'm shocked that GS would rather trade Ellis than JRich, but if they want Yi that badly, that's fine with me.

Have you seen Monte Ellis play? a HUGE part of his game is that outside shot. He can stroke it. Sure he is quick but his game is that outside shot. We pair him up with Felton not only do we have guys that can blow by defenses on fast breaks and going to the basket but we also have a guy that can step out and knock down that three. These two paired up could be great together for a very long time and could really open up guys like Matt, Ammo, and Herrmann... It would also force low post defenders to play the guard on pick and rolls and it would free up the big men to become offensive weapons. With this deal we could add a very good offensive threat in Gasol and a great player in Williams. This would really set us up for a long time.
Ofcourse the only problem with this deal is the fact we would need to actually break the piggy bank for Ellis too, which is something I'm happy to do, especially over someone else handing out a big contract to an older player that we will have to pay without ever even seeing the guy in our system.
Like I said, the more I think about this deal, the more I like it, and I am certainly looking forward to draft day because of this trade and the possibility of staying put and taking a quality player at 8... Should be exciting...

If it's a huge part of his game, we'd definitely be in trouble.
He only hit .5 per game and at a rate of 27%. He only hit a couple in the entire playoffs. He only had 6 games all season where he hit more than one, including all of the playoffs. He may be hitting a lot from outside, but it's definitely not past the bonus stripe.

Give me J-rich in the deal or it's crap. Monta is good, but will not be in the same league as Richardson, ever.
Ellis is not the answer @ SG. He's smaller than Mcinnis is, doesn't do defense.

actually bump...
i thought so to... but hes younger, fresher and better than him in most every stat. so basically your getting a better player at a cheaper price and younger... just not as big of a name.
Points, Assist, Steals, FG%, Free Throws made, attempted and percentage.
in nearly every important offensive stat hes better. and rebounds are less, but hes playing guard to J-richs SF...
did i mention hes younger, cheaper, and possible a better fit on this team. im gonna be pumped if we get him.

He's definitely cheaper, but that's only for one season.
How do you see him as a better fit?
JRich is a much better 3 point shooter, which is what we definitely need.
I think the fact that he's older is actually a plus. We could use some veteran talent around our younger guys. He's still only what... 26?

GS is looking to dump salary, and Richardson provides that, as he is going to cost more than Ellis will. I think that since Richardson is more expendable than Ellis is to the team.
GS is also hard pressed to find a trade partner for YI, so we have the upper hand on them if he is available to us. I say we stick to j-rich.

Bonehead... I mean Bonnell is reporting that J-Rich isn't happening, unfortunately.
But then again, he's not the shrewdest of cats.

LOL... well the times that I have watched he must have been on because I can say, when I have watched he has drilled the outside shot...
Also He is young and that is something that a young player tends to lack... give it a little time and those stats should jump up IMO.

Ellis is not worth the 8 pick give me J-Rich or don't do the trade simple as that I rather play my hand at Brewer, Nick Young or even Wright in the draft.

Brewer will be gone before we pick.
Ellis = 20 points a game next season Wright = unknown but the feeling is that he wont contribute for at least 2 years... and you cannot think that this team needs another big project to sit on the bench with May and Hollins.
i agree though that we should wait until the draft tonight... if Brewer is available.. take him, he will contribute early with his defense and will develop offensively.. he is the one guy in the draft that we cant miss at 8. but if Brewer is gone... trade the pick...
With Ellis/Brewer you have immediate contribution and another guy you can trust in the clutch.
With Wright/Noah any other people at 8... you dont know what your getting and you may not get anything for a couple years.
we need to take advantage of a weak eastern conference now... not wait until Bron gets into his prime, and the rest of the conference takes it up a notch. and were left sittin there with a couple of UNC big men with "potential" but lacking guts to get motivated enough to crack the starting lineup.

I like the kid don't get me wrong but I a good year is not worth a top 10 pick in a very deep draft in my humble opinion.

point taken, is he a system player, was GS a better team than we think...
who knows... this whole thing is a toss up.
i think we all agree though... that we could do worse than picking up either Ellis, Brewer, Wright or Yi. anyone of those guys and i think we have done a good job in this draft given our position.

its true that J-rich saves cap room immediately for GS... but they arent hurting. and keeping Ellis means they will have to give him a bigger contract next year... so either way they are saving money and we are getting a good player.
they keep a line up of BD, ?, Jrich. Adrenis, Yi
we get a lune up of Ray, Ellis, Crash, Okafor, ?
its good for both.
so if its good for the warriors to drop either, and apparently they would rather lose Ellis... and we get a chance to get a guy who is younger, and better... i dont see a problem...
Monta Ellis is on the verge of becoming a star in this league. If this is true then I say go for it 100%. He's very versatile when it comes to the guard position and he can teach Felton a thing or two about finishing around the rim.

it would be worth it just to have a guard who CAN finish around the hoop.
Felton, Carrol or Morrison cannot.
Im telling you guys, and apparently Alex agrees... we would be literally stealing this kid for the 8th pick... i mean we get him and another pick.. its win win.
if we can get brewer...take brewer, if not... trade for Monta.
