I wonder if DA will be willing to give up #23.

I sure hope so. No disrespect but DA does not deserve to be wearing 23.

For those that haven't seen it, this goldenstateofmind.com's take on the Bobcats/Warrior's deal (http://goldenstateofmind.com/story/2007/6/28/232419/560)

Haha yea, I saw that most were crying in their beers. Some are optimistic about Monta Ellis. Their poster for sportnations draftgrade thinks they got a steal, and consider's Richardson's knees "bum"; Surely didn't look like it in the playoffs!

I'm new here. I like the addition of J-Rich from what I can gather. But can anyone explain to me WTF is this 10 Million dollar trade exception or whatever we set GS up with in this trade? I mean 50 million is pretty big amount for Richardson by his own... What does this 10 million trade exception mean for GS and what does it mean for us? :g:
Thanks!

In due time. I'm leaving on a 10 day vacation tomorrow and I will only have my laptop with me which means trackpad only. Photoshop-ing with a trackpad is tedious as hell so I'll make sure to put them on my agenda for when I get back ;)

When a team under the cap trades for someone, they have the right to break rules about salary cap(it is, when two teams make trade, the 125% of the lower exchanging contract can't be less than the greater contract).
We took a 9.9 million contract from GSW, and gave 0(draft rights and picks have 0$ value in trades). In this situations, the difference between salaries create an exception for the teams which get lower contract back. There is a good example of this situation last year:
Pacers signed & traded Peja Stojakovic to Hornets for only a draft right of some English guy called Andrew Betts. Pacers gave also cash. Hornets were able to absorb it because they were well under the cap. That trade meant Pacers basically get 0$ contract. So an exception was created for Pacers around 7.5 millions(it should be the money Peja gets in first year of the contract minus cash). And Pacers used that exception to get Al Harrington. Pacers gave a future 1st rounder to get Al Harrington and John Edwards. That meant they gave 0$ and acquired 8.7 millions back. That could be possible with only that exception since Pacers were over the cap.
I hope that is helpful to understand the concept. Now GSW has a wonderful trade piece that can be used for Garnett.

Thanks for the explanation tamburello. So really we actually didn't give them any money? We just took on his contract correct? Sorry for being slow with this aspect.

We didn't give them a penny. But I'm sure they are happy as they've found 20 millions while wandering on the way :D

Tam,
I might be missing something, but I think the trade exception essentially is the contract of Richardson, meaning they only got 11 million in room to work with. It's like they still have a phantom Richardson contract to spend, not the contract plus the extension.
At least, I think that's how it works. Still helps them out a lot in getting KG.

No, they both have 10 millions room in the payroll and also have a trade exception to use in a year's time. It's just like they get an expiring contract to use in a trade. Pretend we gave them a Theo Ratliff. They can use it in any trade but only once.

Both those things are true-- room in the payroll and the exception-- but I don't thing it functions as a $20 million dollar swing.
For example, they have $50M on their books until they sign Wright. If they were to trade for KG, they'd still have to trade $10M worth of contracts to go along with the exemption.
Either way, trading JRich directly or trading the exemption, there salary would be about $60 million next year.
They didn't get an extra $10 million; they just haven't received the salary back yet from the JRich trade, which would be applied to another trade.

I didn't say there is a 20 millions swing. Of course not. Neither Bobcats nor someone else gave them extra 10 millions. And you are right if they want to trade for Garnett, they have give 11 millions contract along with exception.

LOL, that was just a random amount. I would have written 32 millions as well :D.
