The Charlotte Bobcats will waive veteran point guard Brevin Knight today in a move that will save the team about $2.5 million next season.

A source familiar with the situation told the Observer the Bobcats are exercising a buy-out clause in Knight's contract. The team will pay Knight about $1.5 million to avoid a salary in excess of $4 million that Knight would have received for the 2007-08 season.
I wonder who we have our eye on if we go threw with this maybe an undrafted PG Mustafa Shakur maybe? I remember all of the hype he had surrounding him last year.

its about time brevin is leaving but instead of just waiving him, we might have a possibility to trade him for another PG. someone like i previously said who needs a veteran leader to guide them.

remember how sam cassell was a veteran and guided shawn livingston to be a much more better PG. just find a team with a young PG who needs help and make the trade for one of their backups

I have a question...if we traded knight, would the other team have to pay him 2.5 or 4 mill next year.. i was confused by this quote...cuz if they would have to pay him 4 mill, theres no way we will find somebody to trade him to

if we traded him, he would have to be paid 4.4 mil next year by his new team and then become a free agent...

he would have to have a new contract set up before he was traded im sure. its probally just best to cut ties. I honestly think now more than ever... the bobcats are gonna go after Chauncey Billups. and i personally dont like that move as hes a tad overrated. we may just use to saved money to reup with Crash, but were gonna have to get another point guard in here cause we really only got one and half right now.

Now we have to sign another PG. Maybe Earl Boykins or sign Mustafa Shakur. (I am surprised he was not drafted!)

If we want to trade him, we have to "not waive" him. That means his contract continues as decided before as 4.2 millions. That buyout clause should expire at June 1. If we don't use it, I think it automatically resumes through next year. So the team would have to pay 4.2 millions. we have to decide it until Saturday night. If there is a team that wants Knight may offer us something. But I'm sure if any team is really interested in him, 4.2 millions should be bargain for them. And a contender might look at him seriously, because Knight might help them seriously as 2nd string PG.

Is Boykins a FA?

I thought he'd be useful to us even at $4M a year. I guess at this point Felton and Richardson are experienced enough. Carroll and Morrison can help out in spots if they have to and maybe we pick up a young FA or something for less $

I think they'll use what $ left to re-sign Gerald

Is Boykins a FA?

Yes, but he recently opted out a deal that pays him 3 millions. That means he seeks for something around MLE. We shouldn't pay him that money. He's also not a typical PG. Since we already have a small backcourt, Boykins is not reasonable I guess.

I think we may keep DA now.

Brevin, I hope we end up getting something for him; I see him going to Dallas or Indiana.

I also don't see us going after Boykins. No way we need a 5'5 guy that's shoot first.

What about a redux of Jason Hart, Steve Blake, or even sticking with Mcinnis. Then of course there is always a NBDL pick or international pick, since both spots he has extensive experience coaching...could probably find a solid backup.

If he weren't coming back to Turkey, I'd suggest Engin Atsür, former NCS Wolfpack. But he's no longer an option. Steve Blake has so many behind him. Jason Hart can be a good option but I unfortunately see us retaining McInnis :(.

If Mcinnis has the attitude of last year I see him as being an ok backup option.

Drafting Dudley seems silly now when they could have gotten a young guard like Gabe Pruitt or Taurean Green. Oh well .. they took Dudley because he's the anti-Morrison, I guess.

Keep an eye on Zabian Dowdell, who went undrafted but NBA teams were high on after Orlando Camp.

as a hokie fan i would love to see us draft Zabian Dowdell... quality backup at the very least.

It's about time. My faith in the judgment of the Bobcats' management is 25% back.

It was PAST time for BK to move on, I just wish that they would have done it last season, or 2 years back when they could have received something in return for him

LOL. NOW, if we don't sign Crash, I think there just may be a riot that ensues.

McInnis will not be back as evidenced by the fact that Phil Ford is a part of the bobcats now.

I guarantee that was a stipulation before Ford agreed to sign on.

That's just too much of a distraction for the franchise for a guy who isnt all that talented to begin with.

Theres plenty of cheap bacup PG's available and we'll be in the market for one of them. Maybe they believe Alan Anderson can be our backup PG but i dunno.

Atsur doesn't have any ballhandling he can't play PG in the NBA he could barely get the ball up and down the court when State tried him at PG this past season. He's a SG with no size...

Also technically no chance left for us to sign him. He signed with Italian giants Benetton Treviso.

that article may have well been placed all for the love of bonell to brevin. and we sure do not feel any sad on seeing him leave. and IF he was really keen on giving up more PT to felton, or reduce his role on the team, then why didn't he show it last season? hell, he wasn't even eager to give up his PT to anyone on the roster!
