View Full Version : Bobcats Buzz?

Hey guys,

I came across some old letters that were sent to me while I was in boot camp several years ago, and the content in the letters got me thinking. Every single piece of information that was written to me had something to do with the Hurricanes. This was around the time when the Hurricanes made their first trip to the NHL Playoffs. Just by reading the letters, I could tell that the buzz generated by the Hurricanes was huge! The Bobcats are in a similar position for that to happen this season...and maybe it's just me...but I feel like we still have a long way to go before we generate some serious basketball buzz around the area.

Does anybody have any creative ideas on how we as individual fans, or maybe even as a group can get the word out on this team? I'm sure all of us preach about how great the Bobcats are to our friends and families, but what about others? It would be so cool to have that (Pardon the blasphemy) Hornets-esque buzz again. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there is a legitimate buzz already. Maybe I've just had my ass kicked in NBA 2k7 too many times this week (On a side note: It's so much better to lose to Golden State on that game now).

I think the buzz will increase significantly once we start winning some games next season, once that happens you'll have fans breaking their ankles trying to jump on the bandwagon.
I'm open for suggestions of things that can be done to increase interest in the city.
Any suggestions ?

I can't get my creative juices flowing for crap right now. I guess that's why I posted that.

You can't even get a Bobcats license plate from the DMV, and that is sad. They have over one hundred specialty plates, but no Bobcats. When I called the Bobcats office about it, they hadn't really even heard of such a thing...

There has got to be something creative and inexpensive that we could do.

I would do it, but I don't want to make the other streakers feel... inadequate

Maybe if there was some sort of catchy slogan, that you could put on T-Shirts or bumperstickers, then that might help get people into it.. Maybe something similar to Golden State's "We Believe" campaign that they had during the playoffs.

I even thought about ripping off the Austin 3:16 concept and making up some gear with a few of the Bobcats players, for example:
Okafor 3:16 - You just got your shot blocked
Crash 3:16 - You just got dunked on

I don't think that this concept would rally create any buzz though, maybe I'm wrong.

Thoughts.

As a Christian, I wouldn't advocate the 3:16-theme, being that's sort of the metaquote of The Bible and all that. That said, I'm not offended by it by any means, I just wouldn't take part in it, and I doubt any buzz would be generated, truthfully. I think we just have to make sure we can attend as many games as possible decked out in orange (which I prefer) or the deep blue that has, for some reason, caught on. They don't even have to be Bobcats shirts, just as long as they are orange or blue, though I think if we can come to an agreement on one color at bobcatsplanet that would be preferable. It would be sorta gimmicky, like Roy's "Turn it blue" at the Smith Center, but "gimmicky" works to create buzz, and unity for that matter! It's not complex, but I think it's a decent possibility if I do say so myself!!

That worked well for the Miami Heat in 2006, it looked really cool to see 99.9% of the entire arena wearing white.

We could get that guy from England to come over here and streak during a bank convention or something. I bet we could even get him to put www.bobcatsplanet.com on his back!

I think a catchy bumper sticker would be cool. Notable bumper stickers that have caused a stir lately:

1) Those "Look how many family members I have!" stick figure stickers

2) The barcode

3) Any Nascar number

4) The kid urinating on whatever the driver doesn't like (i.e. Chevy, Ford, Duke, etc.)
