Free agent guard Steve Francis is on his way to becoming a Houston Rocket again.

The Rockets have planned a news conference Friday to announce that Francis has agreed to a contract worth about $6 million, with a player option for the second year.

Francis, a three-time All-Star with the Rockets from 1999-2004, received a $31 million buyout from Portland last week after being traded to the Trail Blazers from the New York Knicks.

Chris Broussard covers the NBA for ESPN The Magazine.

Well he's back in Houston it seems he'll be starting over Alston, hopefully he can get to his old self again and him, T-Mac, and Yao can have a good season...Glad he went to the Western Conference and not Miami...

Well Damn... I thought that he was going back to the Clippers with his life partner boy Cuttino Mobley, but the the Rockets is a good place for him to wind up. Thats where he had the best years of his career.

A lot of people here don't know about Scola, but he may be the best addition of the year by any team. He's the best inside player of the Europe, and if Adelman doesn't behave him just like Bickerstaff did to Herrmann thru the first 4 months of the season, he'll shine after 1-2 months I'm sure.

I don't expect so much by Francis, since he's not the same Francis when he left Houston, as well as Houston isn't the Houston that he left. In the team that includes Yao and McGrady, the others should expect getting the ball so much. We know how much he loves the ball. But Adelman's system requires a fast-passing players, and Francis may help, if he's convinced that he won't be the All-Star Francis anymore.
