After watching last night's game I would imagine that the support that Jake has is likely shrinking.

What are your thoughts?

Jake is overrated due to his upbringing of the team to a super bowl a few years back.

Let Carr have a try, he has a higher ceiling and the defense will help him out dramatically.

I'm not a Panthers fan, but if I was, I'd totally want Carr as QB. Delhomme is a fake, he's never been good, and never will be a top QB, if he didn't have the recievers he had, he would have never had any good years, Carr wasn't in a terrible postion in Houston, and him in Charlotte could help both organizations for the best...but considering I'm a Bucs fan, I hope they keep Delhomme as their QB... :afro:

AMEN...I think its only a matter of time before Jake winds up carrying a clipboard.

When I first saw this post, I was getting ready to rush to Jake's defense. But then I looked at their numbers for last season. Jake did have the better qb rating, but by less than a point, and that playing for a team that did a much better job of protecting the qb (and one with more weapons at his disposal). So, I'm going to have to go with a solid "I don't know", so far. If I had to pick, I'd say Carr, but that's almost as much based on hope than analysis. Delhomme is more of a known commodity to us and Carr is not: The unknown is always tempting.

Jake is the man, they are equal as far as talent goes but Carr is not a leader. Jake is THE leader. I'm glad we got Carr and I think he will eventually be the starter for the Panthers, but he'll need a while to grasp everything. Jakes numbers last year don't show how good he is. at least 5 picks by him were the WR's fault. He also hasn't had a running came to work with. Neither will be worth a damn if Foster/Williams don't bring it this year. We had way, way too many 3rd and longs last year. The offense is designed to be run first. When we only average 2 yards a run(that's a guess) and are stuck in 3rd and 7 all the time it won't matter who is at QB Peyton Manning wouldn't be worth a damn having to do that all the time. So for his leadership I will go with Jake.

Jake is the man and everything but he's WAY to "stupid decisions prone"

Carr is more athletic, more accurate, better arm and has outplayed Jake this pre-season (although he has played against 2nd stringers).

I GUARANTEE that at some point this season Jake will get benched and Carr will take the starting job for good.

I would have to see how Carr would play with the starters for me to make decision between the two. Jake played bad without a doubt but he wasn't the only one our offensive line didn't help him at all pressure was in his face all night I wouldn't go into "bench Jake" mode just yet if he plays the same the next few games and our o line is holding up I'll start to worry.

Carr was sacked 41 times last year, and still made 68% of his passes. Delhomme only 22 times. Delhomme is just more proven. I'd probably start Delhomme and have him on a short, short leash.

Very true I'm still saying when Jake is on he's on hopefully we can fix our oline situation before the season starts and Jake can cut down on the INT's.

Personally I LOVE Delhomme. I love his personality. I think he's a GREAT on-field leader. He brings that, which I dont think Carr has.

I also think Delhomme is amazing with deep passes. He can put Steve Smith a ball that makes you scratch you head.

However, here's where I think he's showing major deficiencies: Reading a defense.

I think it's been shown CONSISTENTLY that Delhomme has trouble reading pass defenses. This is why he needs more time than an average QB and rarely does a three step, drop and pop.

This is why he often time throws int's in the most odd times. He just has trouble reading what a defense is doing and often time gets tricked.

I think it even showed against the Eagles this past week. When he's rushed, he's a complete disaster, which is one reason he's so bad on third downs when teams are rushing him.

He needs a good 3 seconds to see what's going on and when he doesnt have it, he's a mess. Teams are now keying in on this and rushing him ALOT.

I think Carr has alot of the same problem but he's still much quicker than Delhomme.

I love Delhomme but honestly I think he'll lose his starting job this season at some point.

It doesn't matter who is throwing the ball, as long as they have Steve Smith it'll be ok.

Well, that sounds good in theory but unfortunately the NFL isnt that easy. Until the Panthers can figure out how to run the ball effectively, Smith is going to have trouble getting open. The problem is, A) they can't run with a dangerous possibility. Even though they have two solid RB's, the O-Line has been weak and not allowed the Panthers RB's to get through the line. B) The Panthers dont have a solid #2 WR threat at this point. I hope this year that Colbert can be effective enough to take attention away from Smith (as Muhammad did).

The Panthers HAVE to run the ball well to help Delhomme. If the panthers continue to get in third and long situations, Delhomme will continue to throw pics or create punting situations. We saw this just this past week in Philly. Factor Delhomme's bad third and long numbers with his problems in reading defenses, and you've got a big problem.

The key? Running game. The Panthers HAVE to be able to run the ball on first down. Go back and look at video last year. The running game was so bad that the Panthers on more occassions than normally necessary found themselves passing on first and ten, and basically as soon as they throw an incompletion on first and ten, the defense knows that the Panthers are going to pass on second and third downs, which is where Delhomme had problems.

They HAVE to be able to gain 3 and 4 yards on first down by running. If they can do this consistently, you'll see the Panthers offense open up.

Jake looked quite good yesterday I just wish our receivers and tight ends would catched the damn ball we had a ton of chances to keep drives alive. Also our special team play was horrible last night two blocked field goals is unacceptable.

I have to respectfully disagree. I watched the game like game-film. Rewing/Play, Rewind/Play.

The fact is, Jake was putting the ball behind guys. When a guy is in motion you have to place the pass. Jake just can't do it. He's not a good short ball thrower. He throws 15 yard passes better than 5 yard passes. If you go back and look, whenever he threw the ball to the RB coming out of the backfield, it was a poorly placed pass.

The couple that he threw to the TE, were behind the TE and too low to the TE. He thew a ball to Smith over the middle that was behind him as well.

YES, the guys have to catch them, but, they're not. Period. This team is looking really out of sync right now.

And the secondary defense?...........................I just can't even talk about it right now.

The only time I remember seeing him overthrow last night was when Smith was wide open in the endzone over wise I saw him throwing pretty accurate balls that where either getting broken up by CB's or not caught at all Carter dropped two early, Smith a couple and Jeff King as well.

I dont mean overthrow, but rather underthrow. Even when the guys catch it, it's due to the talent of the WR. Delhomme has a problem underthrowing on SHORT routes. He has a tendancy to make the WR have to slow or turn around to make the catch instead of leading him. I'd MUCH rather see him lead a guy too far rather than make him turn around. Delhomme is going to get Smith hurt if he doesnt start placing balls better.

Secondary defense? Do we have one of those? I didnt see it. :g:
Actually what i saw last night was Secondary Persuit. NE was catching the ball no problem.

Jake is the man, Carr will just have to wait a couple of season's or until Jake gets hurt. Carr is still young. He may be a better QB but Jake is the leader of this team, benching him for any reason other than injury would bring marall(sorry I don't spell good at all) down to a minimum.
