Wise Approach

Aug 21 - In a perfect world, the Bobcats would re-sign Jeff McInnis and Derek Anderson and add veteran big man Adonal Foyle, recently bought out by the Golden State Warriors. Foyle isn't much offensively, but his shot-blocking would be handy when Emeka Okafor needs a rest.
Bobcats GM Rod Higgins knows Foyle from his days in the Warriors' front office. A classy guy, Foyle would be a comfortable fit here.
But none of those players figures to get more than the veteran minimum from another team. So the deliberate approach is the wise approach for the Bobcats as August becomes September.

i like it i guess.

foyle isnt the very best option but he could be a bench asset to replace Jake Voskhul. hes better and i believe would be cheaper than Voskhul, so i dont see how it could be awful for the Bobcats.
It puts another big to spell Oak and May during the injuries or rest they need so im ok with that plan. Wise is the correct wording.

I wouldn't mind them signings at all, But that would put us one man over who do we cut? Othella Harrington?

lol, I think Foyle would be a good addition, especially considering the medical histories of our bigs. He also allows us to throw different looks at teams.

By the way, John Feinstein wrote a book called Last Amateurs, detailing a couple of years of the Patriot League, where they have few scholarships and everyone on the team is a TRUE STUDENT/athlete. He mentions Foyle attending Colgate at the time.

The book is quite interesting and I believe it spoke positively of Foyle, but I can't remember. The book's a great read if you're interested in the college basketball, especially if you appreciate guys who play solely for the love.

[disclaimer: I'm the most jaded fan of college basketball you can imagine, to the point that I don't even really like college basketball. However, this book was still a great read!]

i wouldn't mind foyle if he came at about 1-2 million bucks. he would be a more than servicable backup center

It seems to me that we may be going with the young guys we have in the front court and adding guards with our 2 open roster spots. Bonnell seems to think we'll find a way to use 3, but he doesn't say why or how. He probably hasn't checked the roster.

Keeping it real, one of those will most likely be Jeff McInnis. The other? Well, theres DA and there's Bobby Brown. Maybe they sign Bobby and send him to the NBDL, making room for DA. But that's still 16 contracts, even at the minimum. I'll have to see it to believe it.

Personally, if I had Bob Johnson's money in my pocket, I'd waive or trade Harrington, eating his contract if necessary (Bernie never should have signed him "can't have enough bigs" sheesh); then sign McInnis, Derek Anderson and even Bobby Brown.

If Dee Brown is released by the Jazz, I'd try to sign him (even with his appalling 32.7 FG Pct.) and let him compete in the preseason with the others and then make a decision between him and Bobby Brown. Either releasing one or sending Bobby to the NBDL.

..and did Bonnell write the words "Brevin" and "Knight" AGAIN!? The man never lets go....how tiring. You'd think BK was fricking Steve Nash.

A player sent to the D League counts against the 15 spots so that isn't a solution. I think a team can send someone to Europe and retain their rights without it counting against the 15 but I'm not so sure on that.

I don't think DA is an option...if nothing else because it's possible Ammo (or Dudley) is going to be short on PT as it is and we can play him at the 2 as a last resort. I hate that as DA brought experience, crafty D and he wanted to teach.

My bet is Touche' and Bobby Brown (vet + rookie) with Dee Brown being a dark horse.

We may sign a vetran as the back up point. I think that vetran is either Touche or D. Armstrong. Armstrong would be the better pick having growed up in the local area. And him being a much better locor room presence and hes a player who wants to teach. As far as being in shape he works out ever day and says hes in the best shape of his carer. I remenber watching this kid in high school hes a fighter.
With the other roster spot we go into camp with 14 players with one spot left . That will bring a influx of talent because we have that one roster spot. That way we get to work out all the players and get our choice. At a value price. May find a diamond in the rough.

In order to send a player to Europe and take him back, you have to either have his draft rights without signing of waiving(i.e. Guillermo Diaz of LA Clippers), or you have to make him sign a qualifying offer after being a restricted free agent(see what Milwaukee Bucks is going to do with Ersan İlyasova).

We have no draft rights on anybody. And we have no restricted free agents. So we have no right to say a word about the future of Bobby Brown. Either we'll sign him or let him go wherever he wants, Europe or D-League. And he can return to any team NBA.

As I mentioned in another topic, Will Conroy signed with VidiVici Bologna in Italy. Still the favourite in backup PG race is McInnis.

Add Foyle and McGinnis and I think we would be in great shape... then take one of the young bigs and D League him and add a third point guard (Armstrong)

Thank you all for the clarification on the D-League roster spot thing. I guess we're only able to sign two more players no matter what, unless we trade or waive someone currently on the roster.
