View Full Version : Amare Stoudemire
Another guy to add to my shit list with Dicky Jefferson:
After playing in a tournament that the U.S. dominated - winning each game by an average of 39.5 points - Stoudemire was asked if it would be hard to return to the Suns. "Not at all," he answered. "I could see that if I was going back to the (Charlotte) Bobcats. I'm going back to the Phoenix Suns , baby!"
Prick.

Talk all he wants, he shouldn't even be playing over Howard and Chandler with the lineups Coach K keeps running. He's useless on D and the other two are much better rebounder's.
I looked at this a few days back so these were the stats after we played Mexico.
Amare in 95 minutes of PT: 21 rebounds, 5 blocked shots
Chandler in 42 minutes of PT: 18 rebounds, 8 blocked shots

thats a douche comment... i mean we havent had the best record so far so you cant argue that... but its not like pheonix has won a damn thing since he got there. they are second or third fiddle in the western confernece.
he will see this year... marking the pheonix suns game on my calendar, he'll see how good it is to come back to the bobcats.

Hate to go against the masses here on my first post, but I really can't understand why you guys are getting upset over these comments. The Suns will be a much better team next year, that doesn't even seem debatable. They are a top 3 team in the NBA period, the Bobcats are hoping to be top 8 in the weaker East. Just seems like an honest answer to me... he's playing with the best players in the world right now, for almost anyone that would be somewhat hard, in terms of the difference in talent, to go back to their NBA teams. But unlike Lebron and Kobe, who have already made some comments about their NBA teammates after playing with Jason Kidd, Stoudemire has a nasty ass veteran team to go back to and compete for an NBA title THIS YEAR, and so he acknowledged that. I don't like that he brought the Bobcats up, but given that at one point he was rumored to be headed to Charlotte, its not like its completely out of the blue. Of course there would be a drop off from destroying the competition on USA team and going to Charlotte. Don't take it so personally and get all defensive about it.

Welcome to the board nckid. Hope to see you around.
However, I don't agree with your comments. He may not like us, he doesn't damn have to like us (we don't need his love and affection) and I know that Suns will have a better record for sure, but that never requires calling those disrespectful words to any of other teams. In my view to sports, showing respect to rivals is a crucial factor that defines a player's either a good player or a good sportsman.
Yo, guys, when Suns would come to town, boo him as much as possible. Boo him instead of me as well, if I had the chance to be there, I'd definitely do that.
1. What have the Suns done this summer to make you say they have improved? Added an often broken down Hill?
2. An honest answer would have been "I've been working very hard this summer and had an amazing experience with Team USA. I feel strong and healthy and can't wait for the NBA season to start". Instead, he makes an arsehole comment pissing down on us for no apparent reason.
3. Like the guy's said above - I hope be blows his knees out in the first week of the season and ends his career.
4. Welcome to the board.

1. The addition of Grant Hill for cheap certainly doesn't make them worse. Only somewhat balances the Kurt Thomas trade. Seriously though, they are at a point where their cap room is filled with elite players and the one bad Banks contract. As a result their main concern this summer was to cut costs. They achieved that goal, only losing Thomas and getting a desperate veteran in Hill. I would say that it was a reasonably solid offseason. When your team is giving away draft picks left and right to financially maintain a core that can contend for a title, that seems like a pretty damn good situation to go back to.
2. That response doesn't really answer the question at all. An honest nonoffensive answer might have been "Not at all, I could see that if I was going back to a team that wasn't ready to compete for a title. I'm going back to the Phoenix Suns, baby!"
3. To question a man's sportsmanship and respond with feelings of ill will for his knees and career is comical.
4. Thank You.
1. They couldn't win a ring with the roster they have and instead of making their inside presence stronger (their biggest weakness) they trade away a true grit vet big man AND gave away picks to do it. They have chemistry issues, cap issues, are getting older and are no closer to a ring.
2. How does pissing on us answer the question? It was a cheap shot from a classless player.
3. I didn't question his sportsmanship. I question the accuracy of his statement and the motive behind it. Either way, I hope he's in a wheel chair by Dec.
4. What brought you here now? Closet Suns sympathizer maybe?

No kidding...Kurt Thomas was the only Suns who had a chance against the West's big guys.
Amare's comment was both clueless and low rent. There was absoluelty NO reason to bring us up. He's a whiner who doesn't get along with his mates, and as Slam said with them losing KT it's only going to be worse this season for them....while we're up and coming.
He'll live to eat those words.

1. They haven't won a ring, but they have seriously competed since pairing Amare with Nash, going to the conference finals two out of the last three years, each year losing to Dallas or San Antonio, who are obviously elite teams. If you don't think the Suns are an elite team, I don't even know what to say. Sure they have cap issues, but every team with as much talent as they have will. I haven't seen too many moves out of San Antonio or Dallas that are making them a lot better, and they are also getting older, but are they not still among the top teams in the league?
2. I still don't see how he "pissed on us." He used us as an example of a league bottom feeder that was looking toward the future instead of competing for a title next year. Being the most recent expansion team and never posting a wining record... the Bobcats are pretty low on the food chain until they prove otherwise, which I hope they will. Take it how you want, it certainly doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy, but I don't think its nearly as offensive as you guys are making it out to be.
3. As far as the accuracy of his statement, I don't think there's any doubt that he'd rather be playing for the Suns than the Bobcats. And that's really all he said. That the drop off from team USA might be an issue if he wasn't going back to a team as talented as the Suns. Not sure where accuracy is an issue, maybe you think he shouldn't rather be playing for the Suns, but that's a pretty hard argument to make considering the disparity of success between the franchises.
4. I've lived in NC my whole life and am currently a student at UNC. I've been watching the Bobcats increasingly over the past seasons and started reading this board near the beginning of the summer. I've been a basketball fan as long as I can remember, and that includes appreciating teams like the Phoenix Suns.
Losing Kurt Thomas does hurt, but its better than losing just about anyone else on their roster other than Banks. You say they are on the decline and we are up and coming... but where do you see us going? Best case getting a roster together that has a chance year in and out to compete for a title? Thats what the Suns have right now.

I love the hate to be honest will just use comments like this to motivate us in the near future.
1. They will only be an elite team when they start playing both ends of the floor. They aren't an elite team - which is why the truly elite teams like the Spurs and the Mavs play for rings and the Suns don't. I'm not denying that they are fun to watch and play an entertaining style. But a lady with a beard is entertaining and fun to watch. Doesn't mean she'll ever get a date though.
2. Amare's statement is typical of the prick that he is. The Celts were a LOT worse than us, but because they have who they have on their rsoter now, he wouldn't dare say anything about them. It's a classic example of bullying. He's an arsehole, has a history of being an arsehole and will never be anything more than a post defenseless arsehole. He might as well have said "of course I'm exctited about going back to the Suns. It's not like I am going back to UNC where Roy Williams is an ego maniac who smothers his players and doesn't allow them to grow or express themselves". That is how irrelevant his statement was about us. There was just no need for it.
3. No doubt he wants to play with the Suns. He's the next Kenyon Martin. Amare would be a much lesser player without Nash - just like Martin is without Kidd. There is a reason Coach K plays Howard well before Amare.
4. I appreciate the Suns too. What I don't appreciate is prima dona arseholes who feel the need to "big man" themselves with throw away comments.
I see us being a well rounded team with quality players both on and off the court who play a proud style of ball that our fans and other fans alike can respect and appreciate.

Please tell me nckid that you have a Richard Jefferson poster on your dorm wall?
LOL nope =)
I guess the difference in my opinion is that Jefferson not only specifically talked shit about a player, but also it was pretty ignorant, it should be obvious to the league that Wallace isn't a fluke. I just don't feel like what Amare said was that bad. It sucks that he singled out the Bobcats, given that he could have named off many franchises in worse shape. But thats just the way it is... we have ugly ass jerseys play in a small market and have never been to the playoffs. We're the most recent expansion team, and until the Bobcats have some success, the perception will be that Charlotte is at the bottom of the food chain in the NBA.
As far as Boston, thats a very bizarre comparison. They were worse than us, yes, but also have a storied history that probably factors into player's minds when they are considering the least desirable teams to play for. Also, they have thrown all their eggs into the "Win now" basket, which is sort of opposite of what he seemed to mean about Charlotte by the quote.
The UNC thing is just ridiculous, obviously what he said is more relevant, since the subject was the NBA, although I guess you just couldn't resist a shot at Roy.
Man, you and I are way off!!
I hated Dicky long before he took that shot, but at least his cheap shot held some relevance as we were playing the Nets. It's not like he just randomly pissed on us for no reason like Amare did. The cheap shot Dicky made just helped me hate him even more.
What Dicky said though was no more ignorant than what Amare said. I'm shocked you can't see that. You mention that we are the most recent expansion team so we deserve cheap shots like that? You say that until we have some success this is who we are? Even though we have had more success as an expansion team than any other expansion team in modern history? And if we are so bad, as you are pointing out, then what does that say about the numerous teams we have finished above over the past 3 years?
Why didn't he take a shot at the Hawks - who we are continually better than AND who's owners have been in court for the past year? Why not take a shot at the Sonics who might not have a home soon? Why not take a shot at the Blazers who had a history of off court issues? Why not take a shot at the Knicks who's cap situation is a joke? Why not take a shot at the Celts who openly tanked last season?
It's because he is a bully and took a shot at the new kids on the block because he's the type of guy who enjoys shooting fish in a barrell.
As far as me taking a shot at Roy goes - that wasn't the point of the statement. The point was that making a sweeping statement like the one that I did has as much to do with his answer as him taking a shot at us does.
Both were uncalled for.
But hey, I'm not sure why you are over reacting about my statement. According to you it shouldn't really matter.
Should it?

Like you said, he could have used several different teams, more accurately. And he could have not mentioned any other team at all, which would have definitely been more classy. I guess what I'm trying to say is that as far as intent, I don't feel like he was trying to put down us down as much as offer a counterexample to the Suns. So in my eyes, its not really worth getting bothered about it at all. But all the same, I realize I can't really say you shouldn't get bothered about it if you want to, which I guess with the summer lull and all the anticipation, people are looking for anything.
I really like watching him play though and hope his knees hold up. =)

Wow. So many points.
First, the Suns.
They were a bench clearing away from beating San Antonio. They play D, though not at the level of a team like the Spurs. However, they still are a pretty good defensive team. It's just that nobody pays attention because they usually just light teams up. They'll be strong again this year, and if I was Amare, I'd be glad to get back to Phoenix also.
Second, the Bobcats.
I love my team. However, we shouldn't expect respect until we actually do something. Winning a few games by out hustling some quality teams isn't enough. Until we're a playoff team, we're the new guys who have had next to no star power until this year. Wallace is an emerging star, but noone outside of basketball geeks really cared about him. Richardson is a known player, but most people have forgotten about him since his days of slam dunk contests. He was more or less an after thought in Golden State's playoff run, despite putting up fantastic numbers. Baron got most of the press, with the rest spread around to the other wings.
I don't fault Amare for something like that. He was just trying to point out how great his team is. I'm sure he's been hearing things from Kobe and so forth. However, he's not going to take a stab at the Lakers and threaten unity with Kobe.
If anything it just shows me that Amare doesn't really know what's going on with the rest of the league and just focuses on winning.
Until we can consistently beat them, that's probably how it's going to keep being.

Stoudemire didnt really start over Howard.
I saw Howard start over him.
But anyways, Amare came straight out of High School ( Cypress Creek High School, Orlando FL ) which is ( about 30 minutes from my house so i know its not a GREAT school. ) School wise nor Basketball team wise.
Point being that he has no idea of the result of his actions. He talks to fast but doesn't think fast enough. So for him to say something like this is a result of my theory being correct.
Amare is a straight up idiot. He's not a ALL STAR player on his own ( without Nash ). His cordination is a negative 20. Cordination and Awareness goes along way in basketball and the NBA. It would really be poetic if Okafor breaks his 10 blocks record against Phoenix. But only blocking Stoudemire.

One thing that the fans over their hate to admit is that the Suns are too soft to ever win an NBA title... They're a little too prissy to get down and play some hard nosed defense. They're fun to watch, but until they learn to play D, they'll never win anything. I can comfortably say that I believe that the Bobcats will hoist a championship trophy before the Suns EVER do.

Man, you represent the kittycat nation well. You guys are a bunch of whiners! To say the often hurt Ok50 is way better, and amare is just average is one of the retardest statements I have EVER heard!
Wait, did someone just say "Retardest"?
Here's a comment I can agree with:
Charlotte will be one of the most improved teams this yr IMO. And you will know who Walter Herrmann is. Amare should have said the Hawks.
I do believe, however, that it should have been put in the context of "one of the lottery teams" or something along those lines. Oh well, fuel to the fire, let's hope we lay a royal ass whooping on November 6th.
Charlotte fans have to take some humor in how crappy their team has been since inception.
Sure, on wins and losses alone, but dig in deeper and you'd find out that 33 wins by a 3rd year expansion team is the most within the past 25 years.....

Ok kitten fans.. Time for your education..
So everyone gather around and listen..
You should really stop whining like a bunch of little toddlers.
1) Amare's comments may not have painted the best picture of your team, but as it has been witnessed, you're not exactly in the elite class of the L yet.
2) I don't necessarily agree with him running off at the mouth at times, but he does back up what he says nearly every time. Microfracture surgery and All-NBA and All-Star in his return season says a lot..
3) For any of you to wish for harm on anyone for a petty comment that simply states the truth is simply asinine. (For you NC natives, here's what that word means.
http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/asinine)
4) The only reason that Phoenix would have wanted to trade Marion for Wallace is simply about clearing a little salary cap. Wallace better than Marion? You have got to be kidding... Marion gets the numbers he does without plays being called for him. And, he is All-Defensive team. Can your guy guard all five positions on the court?
For those of you spewing even more garbage and making yourselves sound less intelligent than Amare's comment, grow up.

Just like your hero...insulting to a T. If you're so concerned with toddlers go tend to your own board as there is nothing but infantile crap being spewed over there.
The NC comment was just gold, as even your own board admits that Amare does well to tie his laces. Totally understandable that you'd want to project that onto us.
Wallace puts up almost exactly the same stats as Marion. He also has no plays called for him and he's played every position INCLUDING point/forward on our team. Wallace ALWAYS guards the opponent's strongest player. He's also 8 million bucks cheaper as well as 4 years younger. Most EVERY team would prefer Wallace over Marion.

1. Exactly how many championships do the Suns have.... Zero, thats what I thought.
2. He is all-star caliber yes, but Suns fans shouldn't get carried away and think that hes Tim Duncan or even Dwight Howard for that matter
3. Not any serious harm, just a well placed elbow to the grill knocking out about a half dozen chicklets, thats all.
4. Now you're being ignorant. Do you think that Gerald has any plays called for him? He doesn't, and he still puts up spectacular numbers and causes mayhem on defense. Who are the only people in modern history to average 2 blocks & 2 steals per game for a season? David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon & Crash... Think on that for a while. Gerald is the NBA's best kept secret.

As long as you are going to play that card, let me mention that Marion is the only player besides David Robinson to be in the top 3 of both rebounding and steals in the same season. Wallace is also on a team "like the bobcats' where it is very easy to be a stat stuffer, whereas Marion has a 2x MVP and another all-nba 1st teamer, along w/ the 6th man of the year, and still manages to put up close to 20 and 10 nightly. Wallace is a great player in his own right, but he is just not as good as Marion. Will he at some point be better? Possibly, but as of now Marion is the superior player. A

:g:
Suns is my second team in the NBA because they have not won a championship yet. They add entertainment to basketball and I feel sorry for them.
Bobcats is my first team because they are always bullied by all-star players who likes whining but never won a championship. However, bobcats has the potential to be a champion. They should take this as a motivation to kick the @$$3$ of these all-whining players.
Let us wait for the season to start! Go bobcats!

Marion is one of my players in fantasy nba. :) He contributes well to my team's steal. :)
But Crash can give a better show! dunking! slashing! and explosiveness!
Marion 3pt shot is very  ::)

Wow!! What a way to tell us off. :hysterical: Before you came here and visited this great site and posted your comment, you decided to study on a big word to make yourself look smart..... :hysterical: What an idiot. Now listen up you Pheonix Bum fan, Suns aint NOTHING without Nash. NOTHING!!! Before Nash was a Sun, where was the Suns? To tell you the truth, I forgot the Suns was an NBA team. Seriously... no joke. The last time I heard about the Suns is when Barkley and L.J. was still playing. As for the Marion and Wallace talk, Marion is a good player....scratch that, he's a great player, but Wallace is a hustle type player and a difference maker on the court. Plus, Wallace average 2+blocks and 2+steals in one season and is the third person in NBA history to average those kind of stats since David Robinson and Hakeem-The-Dream. Wallace already accomplished something big after finally starting
in the league. It only took him 2 YEARS. Reminder: Wallace has only been starting for 3 years now. Also, Amare is nothing without Nash because he can't make a simple play by himself :D. So, the next time you and your little Pheonix Bum buddies come on this site to insult us, just know that we have reinforcements and please Oh please, get your facts straight and if you can't get your facts straight then please  ...... and get some defense :hysterical:
And that was your daily breakdown. Now back to you Ziggy

sorry bump... i gotta get this in. for punishment ill take a self imposed 30 minute ban. ha ha.
Phoenix Suns: 39 years... 2 conference championships. 0!!! NBA championships.
...seriously guys 2 conference champs in 40 years. i understand its hard to take smack from a state that is devoid of personality, flair and education.... BUT take solace in the fact that you dont have to live there. and lets try and not get so worked up over a team that has been a joke for most of its existence.
also, take pride that you are a Bobcats fan. I mean how hard is it to be a Suns fan right now... they got a good thing going right now. But your here supporting a 3 year expansion team without a winning season. when Nash leaves, and the rest of the team eventually crumbles under Kerr.... these yahoos will go back to hiding in their disgustingly drab desert hued hideaways.
