Dave Berri looks at the most "exploited" players of the NBA from this past season: http://dberri.wordpress.com/2007/09/09/the-exploited-in-2006-07/ (look for Table One to see the listing). Emeka made the list at #8, with Berri arguing that he was underpaid by $16,523,401 this past season. Not entirely serious, but thought provoking, nonetheless.

Don't worry, Berri has stated previously in his blog (and I believe in his book (among other authors) Wages of Wins), that what matters most to contract value is scoring average. And since Emeka is not a high scoring player, we should actually get him for a reasonable value.

LOL - Why cant a player agree to less for the good of the team? I would do that if it meant getting better players and have a chance at the big show. Does the CBA allow that? :g:

As I recall, Tayhaun Prince took less money with Detroit under the idea of keeping the 5 together. That was after their last championship, but before Ben left for Chicago.

There is nothing in the CBA about a player accepting less than market value - they are free to do this. I imagine they do feel some pressure from the players' union and other players to get as much as they can, because when other players hit free agency or renegotiate, they are going to want their comparables to have gotten as much as possible as a leverage point in negotiations.

I just hope that Oka4 feels the loyalty that Wallace felt when they approach him with a fair deal for him and the team. Id really hate to lose his defence and rebounding. :g:

MJ took less for the good of the team. For the major part of his career he was under paid. Not even the highest paid player on the team! So yes you can take one for the team. You still have to make the league min. MJ could do it because he had Nike and a host of others paying him mad amounts of money.
Plus he was winning all of those rings. I'm sure that didn't hurt matters. Seeing as we are a losing team and the fact that he doesn't have any huge endorsements....We'll have to pay through the teeth to keep him.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I think Emeka winds up getting a max contract. I just hope that its with the Bobcats.
