The Bobcats have added 7-foot-1 center Deji Akindele, 6-7 forward Gabe Muoneke and 6-2 guard C.J. Watson to their training camp roster. First-year coach Sam Vincent will begin training camp Tuesday at UNC-Wilmington’s Trask Coliseum.
Apparantly these are training camp signings, and signals a probable end to Derek Anderson's run with the bobcats. Only forseeable chance I see of him coming back is if Othella is cut.
Muoneke played well in summer league, and plays well on both sides of the floor. I just don't think we need another guy that's similar to so many of the other players on our team (adam, matt, crash, dudley, etc).
Deji is an NBDL player that had averages of 8.3 PPG and 6.3 RPG. He also had a decent average for blocks. Personally, unless he's developed, I don't think we need another project big man that's 240 pounds. We need a banger!
As for Watson, I could honestly see him making the roster as it looks like he can ball....but what does research mean anyways?

I agree with you Bumpus. While we have Hollins and Davidson, Akindele is inexpendable. Also we're crowded at wings, so we don't need Muoneke (by the way he's a little old, 29).
Watson could be a suprise guy for us, however I'd still prefer Derek Anderson over those men.

We had to sign somebody, although the signings give us 17 players not 16 as the article says.... The article says that we still may sign others so dont give up on DA yet....:g:

Why on earth is the Kinston Free Press scooping the Charlotte Observer on Bobcats news? It's disgraceful.
Edit: Question to bumpus, who started this thread - how did you first come across this story?

den welcone to the messege board. Thats a good question the ovserver never picks up on Bobcats news first. So most of us do serches and get the news at least a day early. Im sure thats what happened hear.
I just can't understand why we pick up thease three when we could have picked up much better players. Where is the Bobby Brown , the Dee Brown either of thease guys could of been had. What about the banger Marc Jackson.
Somthing is up, a trade or somthing. I can't see us taking any of thease guys.Morrison and May ,Hollins. Davidson somthing is coming . I smell a multi player trade fixing to happen. We might be seeing a J Oneal coming to Charlotte. Don't know what but somthing. Mabe a Charlie V. and a back up point and another player. for May and Morrison
I don't know somthing is up. Could be a Clevland trade
Its no way any thease guys make the 15 man roster. Somthing is up. Im sure somthing is up. Damn what about a D.Anderson .Its no way any of thease guys make it.

I doubt any of these guys make the roster (did any invitees make it last year?), and I also doubt this means we WON'T bring in either Jackson or DA. Though it'd be nice if they were in training camp, both of those guys would be here to fill a 3rd string backup role and if everything goes as planned they won't get a lot of burn.
Interesting that Walker says JRich can play some point; one of the few weaknesses GSW fans have warned us about is his handles.

Haha, I wish something was up dav but I think spec is right. These guys are here for camp and that's about it. I doubt they make the roster. We'll probably end up signing Jackson or some other vet.

What do you guys think of C J Watson?
I just responded to the RealGM thread, but I'll throw it in here:
C.J. Watson update (http://tennessee.scout.com/2/545378.html)
He's got the MJ connection...played for Peterson at UT (plus for him!)
New coach Bruce Pearl brought an upbeat system to the Vols last winter, and Watson flourished in it. He averaged a career-15 points per game, led the team in assists and tied for the team lead in steals.
Likes an "upbeat" system (check).
C.J. shines at camp (http://tennessee.scout.com/2/518930.html)
Point guard C.J. Watson was named to the all-tournament team after leading his team to the finals of an event widely regarded as one of the premier pre-NBA Draft camps.
Watson, who ranks second on UT's all-time lists for career assists (577) and steals (198) ranked third among tournament participants by averaging 16.3 points per game. The 6-foot-2 playmaker shot a strong 56.7 percent from the floor (ninth-best at the tournament) and a sizzling 71.4 percent on 3-pointers (second-best in the tournament).
His best game came in a second-round shootout with Norfolk Sports Club. He hit 8 of 11 from the field and finished with 17 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 26 impressive minutes.

haha dav... just breath little buddy. these guys are mostly just camp fodder. they will be gone soon. i think CJ has a chance of making it and i hope so as i think we need a young PG to train.
Quick depth chart update: feel free to fix this as im at work and doing this mostly so i can remember who all we are going into camp with.
PG: Felton, McInnis, CJ Watson
SG: Richardson, Carroll, Hermann
SF: Wallace, Morrison, Dudley, Mouneke
PF: Okafor, May, Davidson
C : Brezec, Hollins, Akindele, Harrington
does that look about right... ignoring their positions.. i just wanted to make sure thats all the players we are going into the season with.

I wouldn't mind keeping Watson. Akindele maybe, and Mouneke no. I still think we'll pick up Marc Jackson to be the "banger" that coach V is looking for. I was just thinking, coach V is wanting to make us a really strong defensive team, yet DA is a great defender and he doesn't want to bring him back?

I just dont understand thease moves. I don't think any of thease guys can make the team. I don't understand whats up with D.Anaderson. Maybe he wants big money. I have blown a gasket over this. We just can't be considering thease players.

Haha I will blow a gasket if we actually start Brezac at Center. The man shouldn't even be on the active roster on opening day. :-\
We might just keep Watson. Yup; and the big guy if he can run the court without falling down.

dav7z,
Thanks for the welcome. I write The Bobcats Den, a Bobcats blog (http://www.charlottebobcatsblog.blogspot.com/), where I've been demanding that the Bobcats re-sign Derek Anderson for weeks now.
I would welcome a trade for Villaneuva, even if we had to give up May, as I believe Dudley will exceed all expectations and hold down the backup PF position. Signing Villaneuva would allow Okafor to play PF full-time, which is desirable, and would provide much-needed help on the glass.
Maybe package Villaneuva with Julius Hodge or, depending on his contract, Earl Boykins?

CJ Wilson actually doesn't sound to bad, and though I'd prefer to have DA back, he could be a nice 3rd stringer to bring in...I wouldn't be totally against him. Gabe did wonderful in the summer league, but I just think we have to many people at the SF position... I don't know much on Deji Akindele, but if he has any skill rebounding and defending I'd give him a shot, he has to be better than the guy from the Kings that average 0 ppg lol.

Once again very nice blog and welcome to Bobcatsplanet. You write for a nice site and thats a nice blog about the training camp invites. I to would welcome a trade for Charlie V. It all so sounds like Vareajo and Clevland are all most ready to part ways as reports from Clevland say neither side is close. We need to make that one more move to get to that top level in the east. Nice blog and welcome once again.

I'd absolutely love Varejao, but I think his price tag may be too high. I suspect he'll be looking for Darko money (3 years, $21 million).
He'd be an absolute steal as a mid-level exception, though.
IF Varejao would take $5.3 million, and IF the Bobcats would pay it, Varejao would be an incredible upgrade.

Welcome aboard bobcatsden,
I would deal Sean May for Charlie V in a heartbeat, but why would the Bucks make that deal from their persepective. Have they soured on Charlie?

Ut fan Welcome to the board . I thought hes about 6.7 and is a wing player. No I don't remember his Texas days. If you got some info on him let us know. Welcome aboard.............
About Vareajo, I think he would take the 5.3 right now it it was for three of four years. Im sure he would take a four year 25 milion contract now.
About Charlie i read he don't want give up the starting gig to Yi . So it might be some truble in that camp. At this point our only trade bait is Morrson , May , and Dudley. The rest are either untradeable and or keepers.

Welcome UTfan, hope you stick around...he's 6'7' and weighs at 243 pounds, a bit heavy IMO, but hopefully he can do well if he makes the team...

Ha. Pretty simple actually. I just go to yahoo news (off the main yahoo page) and type in "Bobcats" or "Charlotte Bobcats". I always seem to find something. If not that, I type in Bobcats rumors for webpage search results, and go to Prosportsdaily.
That's where I find all my stuff on my own.
