This pisses me off, IMO he's not worth this, and I would have cut him. He's overweight, and he's never healthy, he may become a star later on, but I'm truly tired of waiting...

Varejao is a virtual lock to be purchased now i think. We have nothing at the PF spot as far as prototypical PFs go... and hes the best candidate out there. He also plays with heart and commitment so he would at least fit in to the philosophy. As much as i cant stand him in Cleveland id be willing to work through it. especially if he cut that hair.

either that or as Vincent says... gerald wallace is gonna be gettin some serious minutes in the 4 spot

but then gerald says... he doesnt wanna play the 4 but will if it helps the team. which i didnt realize he doesnt like the 4.. but i guess the 3 is a more glamorous role. this sucks.

Notice that Higgins talks about replacing him within the org., and mentions the young bigs "Emeka (Okafor), Jermareo (Davidson), Ryan (Hollins) and Walter (Herrmann)" having to step up.
Vincent says how he wants to bring in someone, but seems to hint that management won't go for it.
However, a few of the guys interviewed seem to believe that Hollins is the guy to take the spot.
It will be interesting to see what happens. I too am not a fan of Flopsy (Varejao), and I really don't see him being brought in by the 'Cats, but I'd probably eventually learn to cope with it if it did happen.

It sucks that we had to wait to find this out in the first week of training camp. I still don't understand why they didn't have his knee looked at 2 months ago.

Somebody get Anderson Varejo on the phone.

oh lordy....we should have traded Krisy Kreme for the Nets pick in the draft when they offered it to us!

No kidding. I'm really hoping there are significant circumstances we're overlooking or don't know. Because, as of now, this situation just seems completely ridiculous.

I summer might have changed considerably if we knew May was going to be on the rack.

Hope he get's better. Sad, so sad. I don't see us being able to get anybody to replace him. This really sucks

He would have never passed the physical. THat's probably why it never went down.

A question for some of you contract & capologists out there:

At the end of the 2007-2008 season, will May be a restricted free agent???
If so, is there any sensible reason to offer him a deal at the end of this season? Or do we just assume that at this point that his days as a Bobcat are over?

We were just talking about this on the Observer board.

(edited!)
We'd have to exercise his option this by the end of Oct. to keep him for next year. If we don't pick up the option this month, he'd become a UFA next year. That puts us in a tight spot since we have no idea how he'll respond to surgery.

So, we have two options:

1. Pick up the team option. We retain his restricted status and can always use him in a trade for a team looking to an expiring contract.

2. Let him hit the open market. At that point, we could still sign him, possibly for less than he's rookie deal. Of course, if a team like the Knicks swooped in, they could pay him large money banking on his healthy return. (Kidd and Amare did it. Why not May?)

It's tough because if we don't extend his contract, then we lose him as an asset. Of course, a guy who will never play again isn't an asset, other than expiring contract. So, we'd have to wonder if we could use the money better on the FA market or tied up in May.

It's a toss up on whether we should sign him. It sure seems strange to extend a contract for another year on a guy about to miss an entire season. But if we don't, we have nothing to show for that pick.

Anyway... hope that made some sense.

It just never ends with this guy does it :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

We're gonna have to depend on two unproven front court players now in Davidson and Hollins because I'm not sure our front office and Bob are willing to spend the money at this point.

F*ck, I can't believe this. Why in the world did they wait so long to figure this out?

We shall endure. It's much too early to fall into despair over this. If it was Mek' that went down, then it's time to cue-up the Fat Lady, but not for Sean. If it turns out that he is the difference maker for our making the playoffs, then we can moan, let's compose ourselves on October 5!

this dropped us to #12 on Hollinger's predictions....:'( we were predicted 8th seed for such a short amount of time!

We played .500 ball for a good stretch without his fat ass last year and we've since added J-Rich. Not saying we're going to be fine...but our season isn't quite over before it's begun.

I think we're over the cap, or else we're right near it...and we have 15 guaranteed spots (which worries me more). I'm hoping we can get an injury exception and add another body like Jackson.

Varejao ain't happening. He's refusing 6 million, wanting 10-11...and that's from last year's East Champion. No way do we offer him anything like that (and we don't have it anyway).

The sad shit is that I don't think he'll ever live up to his true potential and play consistently like he does when he's actually on the floor.

I really dont think this will hurt us nearly as much as everyone here is making it out to be. We played our best ball the second half of the season, and at that time we overall didn't have May. We did pretty well with the big men we had then, and now we have an improved Hollins, a healthy Primo, maybe a healthy Harrington, and Dudely and Davidson to add to the mix. Not to mention this hopefully opens a roster spot.
