View Full Version : What will Herrmann's role be this season?

With all the talk about J. Rich, G-wally resigning, May getting injured, and the superb rookies we have, it seems like NO ONE is talking about Walter Herrmann! How is his preseason going? Will he see a lot of playing time this year? Is Jordan into the European style he plays? Herrmann along with Wallace was probably the best 2 reasons to watch the Bobcats in the later half of the season last year, so I'm hoping he will be a 6th man for the team.

First off Welcome to Bobcats Planet, it's nice to have you here, and we hope you'll stick around.
Walter Herrmann is a talented athlete, I would have loved to see him start at PF this season, but it seems that the Cats want Hollins at Center and Okafor at PF. Herrmann has never been much defensively and IMO that's why he's not getting the nod. He can scored sure, but when it comes to defense he needs to work on it. I think Herrmann sees a good about of time 15-20 mpg at the PF postion and hopefully it'll help him get more experienced and help with the defense. As I said Herrmann is talented offensively, but until someone slips or gets injuried, I don't see him starting too much until he gets the defensive up....He'll be nice coming of the bench though...

I've been wondering the same thing...just emailed Bonnell this morning pretty much what you've asked in this thread.
He gave up FIBA in order to be ready for the NBA season and I'd like to know the results of that (Primoz did too...).
Coach V might be talking about Hollins starting, but in the end I think Fabio will end up with the burn.

I must be crazy or something, because I've always considered Herrmann to be one of our best defenders...

Well stats wise(Herrmann) he isn't a big defender...he averages .15 blocks throughout last season and .35 spg, nothing amazing what so ever, sure he 20 mpg, but still I think he needs to improve the blocks per game so we can finally have that 2nd down low defender besides Okafor...

Herrmann still looked like he made shooting and even dribbiling hard for oponents to do. I don't know, something he did just seemed to getunder whoever he was guarding's skin. I'm probably wrong though.

You're right...Fabio became very adept at denying the pass to his man and it ticked a few guys off. He's not going to have a lot of blocks and he's going to get his ankles broken occasionally, but what he did do is work his tail off trying to improve.
He's got limitations, but giving 110% is what this team is all about; because of that I think Fabio will always get PT.

http://www.bobcatsplanet.com/joomla/content/view/212/9/ I just did this blog post for BCP about Herrmann - it makes the case that the Bobcats should have Walter on the floor, and not worry (too much) about the rebounding/defensive concerns.

Welcome to the messege board. Personally i think as of right now Herrmann should be the starter at the four. I just can't see Hollins starting at the five hes not ready .To me our players should go like this right now.
1. Felton , D Anderson, Torch [ notice torch 3rd string]
2.Rich, Carroll, D Anderson, Morrison
3.Wallace, Dudley, Carroll,D Anderson, Morrison
4.Herrmann, Wallace,Dudley,Davidson,
5.Oakafor,Premoz [if he comes back] Hollins

I gotta say, that those stats don't necessarily mean he's not a decent defender. The better question is how productive his man was while Herrmann was on the floor. (I haven't read Brett's blog yet, but I'm gonna bet that he addresses something like this.) Herrmann does seem to bug the guy he's on though, and take him out of his comfort zone. Blocks and steals are nice and will benefit our running offense this year, but they do not wholly comprise Defense.

I agree dav7z; Ive been suggesting that line up since we first aquired J-rich, I had the feeling May would have his problems this season because of the articles Ive read, ect.... :g:

first of all, walter herrmann is the best argentinian basketball player of all time (including manu) if he plays like he did in march last year. hopefully he will and his role will be as a starter.

If my memory recalls correctley; Seems I remember Herrmann eatting us alive with 3 pointers in the olympics in 2004.
I'm looking forward to "Fabio" having a great season for us. The lack of confidence he was given last year from Bernie really caused him to struggle early but when he was given those minutes he showed what a fantastic player he is. I really see him as a 15 points per game off the bench sort of guy.
I have no idea how Morrison is going to get any minutes this season with J-Rich, Herrmann and Carroll.
