I'll be there baby!! I'm buying me a blue J-Rich jersey too. I'm wearing a white shirt so I can through It ontop. I can't wait.
The Nets were on a 9-0 run but Felton just made a fastbreak layup and got fouled which unfortunately he missed.
He's only 1-6 this game, if he continues to shoot this bad he just needs to stop shooting and pass it to the other guys.
46-34 Nets at HT
we are STRUGGLING

From just looking at the statline, Jemario Davidson is looking good so far:
11 minutes, 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals.

Davidson is playing real well. Seems like we can thank him for most of the comeback.

Davidson is BEASTING!
Okafor hunched down on the floor in pain but it looks like he just got smacked by an elbow in the face.
71-61 Bobcats!!
We outscored them 39-15 in the third quarter

On a more sour note the attendance tonight is 9,131 ???

WoW! that is a big quarter, I doubt we have ever had that many points in a single quarter.
oh come on, in three seasons we haven't had 39 points at least one other game? that's hard to believe
anyway it looks like we're gonna win this, we're up 94-86 with 30 seconds left, now 96-86 with Carroll draining two FTs
ziggy
10-15-2007, 09:38 PM
a 39 point 3rd quarter... WOW. They need to save some of that for the regular season.
Final Score: Bobcats 96-86 Nets
Great play from Davidson and Morrison who went to the line 7 times and drained all 7 shots.
We scored 64 points in the second half. Think Vincent got to them at HT? I mean you would NEVER EVER see something like this when Bernie was coach, we were always worse in the second half.

I don't know if that is a record or not. Some one look that up. most points in a quarter by the bobcats. we scored 37pts twice against the Suns, in the same half. That was the highest scoring game I can find. A 136 to 121 game the suns won. Anybody find a higher total?

So, should we try Davidson at C with the starters for a preseason game. I think it's worth it, and worth a shot trying Walter too.

We were talking in the Chat Room during the game. jermareo is showing himself to be a "beast" and a steal in the deal for J-Rich. I am rooting hard for him to be our 5th starter. I would push Oak to the 5 and let Jermareo play the 4. He is better than Hollins or Primo in every aspect. Just can't waste that talent. And Adam, 4 straight in double digits and much better FG% and very few TO's and better Defense. Far improved from last year.
ohara831
10-15-2007, 10:05 PM
I am also cooling on the idea of show caseing Adam for a trade for a big. I am thinking Jermareo may handle the job and I think Adam may prove everyone who jumped on him for being a bustlast season to have been a little premature - including me. He is stepping it up big time

I think we keep all our guys for now and play who we have. I like the idea of maybe starting Davidson, he is the sole reason we turned it around in the 3rd, of course the others helped out too during that period; he was the spark....He seems to have alot of the same mind set that Mek and wallace has.... :g:

I'll take your guys word about Davidson. I haven't been able to watch a game yet. So I can only look at his stats, which are nice. I'd still hang on to everybody we have, I don't think we need to send anybody to the D-league do you guys?
ohara831
10-15-2007, 10:24 PM
I would like to see Oak and Jermareo get a little "nastier" - kind of like Zo. I don't mean "dirty", just a little meaner out there. When you want to play a big 4 or 5 and you're under 7 feet, you have to have some extra edge. Zo always played very tough, very strong, really mean out there - but not ever a so called "dirty" player in my opinion
ohara831
10-15-2007, 10:32 PM
Jonathan; I am going by the stat chart also as well as chat room talk with others who saw or heard the game. As for D-League, possibly Watkins and Watson, although I like CJ Watson and think he is better than McInnis. But then, Coach may know something I dont.

it is 12 active players, 3 inactive but 15 total on the roster... it's gonna be interesting seeing who gets those last few spots. i'd rather have the young guns on the inactive list for game day then some seasoned vets who have very little future with the team

Just returned from tonites game....thoughts:
Compared to the game in Greensboro the energy in the Arena tonite was very low....2 reasons I suppose, first, MONDAY night, second CHARLOTTE ugh. Very few people in the stands.
Short shots:
Jermario Davidson and Matt Carroll were the only real sparks in the first half. It seemed the whole team came out with low energy. Davidson changed that a little.
Gerald Wallace came out in a bad mood (not in a good way) and seemed to just get worse after a few calls didn't go his way. He was in a mad funk tonite and just wasn't moving well on the court, often out of position or just letting it go and charging hell-bent into traffic. Not good. He needs to provide consistent leadership, not that crap.
Carter and Jefferson OWNED us in the first half, creating points in the paint at will. On the flip-side, none of the Bobcats starters seemed able to answer.
On Defense, we're not blocking out well under the rim or in the paint. The game improved for the Cats only when Carter and Jefferson left and the Nets turned the game over to 2nd string or worse players.
When Davidson came in, he provided instant energy and the game started to turn a little. Then Matt and AMMO picked it up and the game seriously began to change. A lot of that can be attributed to a wretched group of Nets players. With Carter and Jefferson out, Magloire and Boone very much sucked. After a while, every time Magloire touched the ball we expected a turnover or chucked shot. Except for Nachbar, the cubbard was bare. Robert Hite and Eddie Gill? Who?
In the Second Half, Davidson REALLY found his groove and started finding position on both O and D. One play in particular: Mario at the post baseline with his back to the basket fakes a pass to AMMO waiting to shoot the 3 from the corner, then spins and swishs a short jumper. NICE. It seemed like the whole Bobcats team was rooting for him to pull them up.
Hollins really has a SUPERB NBA body. The man looks so good, there is NO WAY he can fail. I say just keep playing his ASS until it happens. Tonite he played well and very hard, but the calls weren't with him. At least 2 fouls were cheap ones. Man, one power lob could have been the BOMB if it umm hadn't gone right through his hands :) It was one of those OH YEAH OH YEAH ahhhhh! plays.
McInnis can be so cool. He was talking and jiving all night. He's clearly enjoying his job security at the moment and is talking to all his teammates. Much more than Felton, who seems too often frustrated. McInnis has no pressure. Jeff is not just talking to his teammates though. In the second half he got Vince Carters attention from the bench while Carter was on D. Vince is smiling and talking to McInnis up until he realizes the play just ran past him. too...much.
Wallace final shook his funk in the fourth quarter and went to work. This was after McInnis grabbed him on the sideline and started shaking and rubbing his head while talking right into his face.
AMMO played hard and very within himself, with some timely rebounds and a nice assist. He added some nice jump shots. Very encouraging.
Sean May sighting on his crutches. Best wishes Sean.
p.s. edit: It is SWEET sitting right behind the Cats bench! OH YEAH.

Keetch, thanks for the thoughts from someone who actually got to see the game. Hopefully Sam will work with Gerald on his attitude.
Alex...tough for the rest of us to follow that. Thanks.
I broke down some numbers from the game and they're up on my site now - http://www.queencityhoops.com/GameRecap101507.php. If people get tired of me linking say so, but hopefully everyone (or a majority at least?)finds these of value. Just from looking at the numbers after 4 preseason games (2 with J-Rich and 2 without (and are we really going to call him J-Rich? Anyone come up with something better yet?)), it looks like his presence is going to help the offense, as expected.

but thank you so much for sharing tidbits on the game! makes me feel like i'm also there w/ your descriptions.
The 10:30am game is the yearly tradition that we have held since our first season where the team invites the best students from CMS. The kids come to the game for free sort of like a field trip. It's a great way to support the kids that are doing well and also to try and groom new fans. The arena is usually packed for those games as well because there's lots of kids in CMS.

Brett I love your stuff; in fact your site got at least 10 hits from me on Sunday hoping you'd post the breakdown for the Miami game.
Keetch...good stuff man!
We could tell in chat that we were getting killed on the offensive boards. Mek should know how to block out, so I'm thinking that was Twiggy mainly? Did Davidson do any better? I liked how he stuck to his man, but I totally forgot to look for that facet of the game Saturday night.
Regardless, we'll get better with that I'm sure.
I'm thinking Davidson is going to quickly become a fan favorite.

Spec I was at the game for the first half. My sister and I took my nephew who is just turning 1 and figured this would be a good trial run since no one would be there. Btw I'd be shocked if the actual attendance was over 1,500. However you had to print the tickets for the game as most season ticket holders haven't received theirs yet and there probably aren't very many walk ups.
Anyway, Keetch is right we weren't boxing out. It was mainly Twiggy but Davidson didn't do any better in his first half minutes either(defense or rebounding wise). That's my problem with Hollins, through summer league and pre-season he just doesn't seem to be in the right positions to provide what we want him to. Either way the overall defense in the first half was horrid. They crowded the paint and didn't recover to shooters on the outside. Hardly saw anyone fronting the post except Crash. Btw he is visably bigger but I'd say he might have lost some quickness. At times he looked like he was lumbering around instead of being the sleek cheetah we know he is. Could have also been him hurting some because he fell hard once pretty early in the game and it seemed to linger with him a bit.
Overall I have to say that I was disappointed in what I saw. Felton looked lost most of the time. He couldn't get into the lane like he should be able to and didn't run the pick and roll well with anyone. He hardly created any opportunities for himself or anyone else. In fact most of our guys looked like they were thinking too much while on offense. If you watched New Jersey everyone was calm and moved with purpose although that could easily just be the difference in them playing together so long and us having a new coach.
Also just to add we weren't running very much in the first half. NJ was shooting well so there were fewer opportunities for us but I just didn't see us trying to push the tempo. The Nets did a good job getting back on transition D and shutting any attempt at a fast break down.

Maybe reaching here, but as you know I was at the Saturday game and the offense was clicking almost right out of the gate. In that game Felton looked great running the offense. In this past game we struggled like everything shooting wise (at one point falling below 20%)...so maybe that's why Felts looked "lost"? I'm hoping JRich takes care of a lot of that.
He's still got a ways to go, esp. since he's taking on leadership duties and learning the new scheme. No doubt he's going to be bashed all thru the beginning of the season, but it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't take him (and the rest of the team for that matter) 20 games or so to get it all together.
From what I've seen I really like Mokeski on our bench, and have no doubt that Twiggy is at least being servicable because of him. Give him time and hopefully he'll get that blocking out thing going.

It was more of the same thing we see when he has a bad game. He forces his drives into a crowd of people and either misses a layup or turns the ball over. On the pick and roll he just wasn't making decisions fast enough. Should he drive? Pull up for a jumper. Give the ball up etc...the way it was being ran it was just meaningless ball movement and a waste of the shot clock...which in turn led to forced shots or drives and evidently a 20% FG% early.
I'm hoping he'll come around and the rest of the team will too. Felton seems to play in streaks. When his confidence is up he makes you love his potential. When it's not he looks like he doesn't know what to do with the ball and then forces things. That's what I was hoping to see less of this year. Him getting to the point where he plays more consistent. It's just one pre-season game but it just so happened to be the only live one I've seen so far.

Spectre: I'm not sure anybody was boxing out last night during the first quarter; it was pretty bad. I was very surprised to see Emeka had 11 rebounds though, so he must have been doing more than I thought. No need to worry about Okafor of course, but yeah, everyone else needs to get to work. Maybe Mokeski needs to look this over....
But still except for OK50, who is ripped strong with mass; the others are all wings (Wallace, Hermann, JRich) or greyhounds (Hollins, Davidson). Not a group with great rebounding potential. Still Hollins and Davidson are big enough that with a little coaching, shouldn't get so badly beaten. Especially Hollins who has so little in the way of offensive skills, but great potential defensely. Davidson I can understand, he's looking more like he should keep working on his offense for the time being; as he has so much potential with it.
edit: saw I contradicted myself on Hollins :P sorry, no reason Ryan can't be a good rebounder. Davidson too, but for now I'd focus more on offense with Mario and let the defense work its way in.

Hey I was at the game monday, anyone know what happened to Okafor, he walked over by me and screamed "F***" and then spat out a bunch of blood after getting elbowed in the mouth, I thought he lost a tooth but I wasnt sure... anyone know his status? I hope hes alright... Also in reguards to talking about Gerald being in a funk and a bad mood, I agree. When I talked to him before the game he was short and wanted to get away, not exactly the friendliest at that time. Davidson wow! If we can get that kind of production from him Ill be thrilled. I like his game. Also Hollins is the man, Ive been saying this since we drafted him last year, any 7 footer who highjumps 6 10 is good in my book, plus he is really nice and a hard worker. I am looking forward to this season and getting to see Jason get into it too. Gerald gets killed every game, it was almost painful to watch
