Reports are that Boston is going to be trimming down their roster, and Esteban Batista may be one of those cut loose. I know we were after him before he chose Boston. Are we still interested in case he is cut?

If we can sign him because of May being out im all for it . Another big can only help. But im not as worried about a big as i was a week a go as Davidson, has steped it up and Hollins is servicable , and the return of the Butterfly. One more big to fill aroster is ok with me. Hes stupid if he would have signed with us a month ago he had a good chance to start . As of now he will have to fight for ever min.

We already have 15 garanteed contracts- thats 12 active and 3 inactive. In order to sign him we would have to cut someone and loose that money.... :g:

Sence May is out for the season i think we get a exception. Insurance is paying him this year . The money would go against our cap but im sure he could play.

I was just replying on another thread that I was under the impression we had one spot available. I did not remember that we already had our 15. Crap, this is getting difficult. I would really like CJ and Esteban on the team, but think that you're right when saying I do not think the team will dig into the wallets to buy 1 or 2 people out who are surplus baggage.

I DON'T THINK SO WITH A LEAGUE EXCEPTION.

I DON'T THINK SO WITH A LEAGUE EXCEPTION.

I thought just as you did until I read this, which I posted in another thread:

Blazer's Notebook (http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/sports/1192328717111530.xml&coll=7&thispage=2)

Blazers gain an exception: The Blazers applied, and were rewarded with, an injury disabled exception by the NBA in lieu of center Greg Oden's season-ending knee surgery. If the team wishes, it has until Oct. 31 to sign a player who makes no more than half of Oden's $4.6 million salary.

However, if the Blazers do sign a player for $2.3 million or less, they must release one on their current roster because the team is already at the NBA maximum of 15 players under contract.

"If you see me use this exception, it means I really feel great about who we are bringing in, because that means we have to give up on somebody to bring somebody in," Pritchard said. "We applied and got the exception just in case there is an opportunity, but at this time it's unlikely that it will be used."

According to this we do NOT get an extra roster spot with an injury exception.

I thought it was a either or , hell im not sure now. I could have swore we could got the exception. And May just counted against our cap not our 15 man roster . Ill try to study this . It will give me somthing to do.

It appears to me that we can at least Apply for the Exception. That will give us a couple weeks to decide IF we want to use it. We don't have to use it and cut someone loose. Not at least applying for it makes no sense. Does anyone know if we even Applied? It cannot hurt, but not even applying makes someone in the front office look like they are missing something.

The Blazers have to cut someone because they have 16 guaranteed contracts with Oden, without Oden they have 15 I believe...

Sham Sports (http://www.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/blazers.jsp)

No, they only have 15 guaranteed. Maybe you're thinking of Francis, who they bought out?

Celtics Waive Esteban Batista (http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/48574/20071016/celtics_waive_esteban_batista/)

Sorry Esteban...but I'm snickering just a little bit. Should have went with the team who needed you.

Guess we'll see what the organization is thinking in regards to our big situation. I'm guessing with Primoz ready to come back they'll hang up the phone when Batista's agent comes calling.

Before everyone starts going crazy to get him, some Celtics' fans thoughts:

I was stoked when we signed Batista, I thought he'd make it for sure, but frankly he was terrible. Other than finishing a couple of open dunks he did nothing. He was active but ineffective. He couldn't play D, had no offense, and basically just ran around like a headless chicken.

I was excited about Batista too - till I saw him play. No offense but the people supporting him need to watch some more basketball..<g> so they can learn what a stiff looks like.

Yeah, he looked pretty bad, especially on defense in the limited minutes I saw him. Still surprised he was cut before Manuel and Jones though...

He was cut before Jackie Manuel.

Good find Spectre. Makes me feel better knowing we did not give him the money or it might be us saying those remarks about him.

Hes stupid he should have took a contract when we offered it, instead he takes a nongarnteed at Boston. He when from a possable starting position to no team at real smart.I doubt we offer him any thing now. When are thease fools realize it's a owners market again.
