Someone else asked this and made me wonder. Now that we have two people on the roster out for the season, is there an "injured reserve" rule where we can add players to the roster and have them injured players be kind of redshirted or however you want to call it....without us having to cut someone?

Bonnell addressed this in his blog:
Replacements for May, Morrison? Not yet (http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2007/10/replacements-fo.html)
The league will occasionally grant a team an exception to push the roster up to 16. However, to get that exception, a team must demonstrate it has three or more players already out for a length of time.
So nope.

Any updates on Harrington? Might he become that 3rd player?

Spectre how does teams sign player to ten day contracts when aplayer gets hurt the signs that player to the remainder of the year. Really we down to 12 contract players if we count Harrington but i doubt he retires. J ust wondered how the 10 day contract thing and then sign them to the remainder of the year worked.

Dunno Dav...all I can assume is the teams you're talking of don't have a full 15 on the roster, which isn't unusual.  Byron Scott (in Hoopshype Rumors) is saying he'll probably cut one more and get down to 14 slots.  This leaves flexibility in case something comes along that you can't refuse.

I wish. It looked like they were trying to go that route with Harrington (get him to retire) but he didn't want any part of it.
I'm betting the food's too good on the road.

They should have kept Gabe Muoneke. he plays 2,3 and 4 and can flat out score.

UTfan1 - I don't suppose you might be a bit biased towards the former Longhorns player? I have my doubts that he can effectively guard a 2, at 6'-7" and 243 pounds - he did score well in summer league, but for someone his size, he did not rebound well or do much of anything else of note.
I'm not saying he couldn't help the team but I think you might be overstating his versatility.

What really frustrates me is the Othella Limbo. Is he gonna play this season or is he just going to rot away (again?). I think we can all agree that we'd like to hear something on the situation.
P.S. Post 2000! wooo! Movin up to Crash

Batista, is out thair he could be a big help
It's got to be away to pick up another player . Just for this season. If its not a way the rules need to be changed.

if harrington is out and we can sign somebody, it will probably end up being jawad williams or eddie manuel to keep the fans lol

well yes of course I'm bias. I'm on the UT training staff and grew up watching him. But he was at the facility before he went to Charlotte and super excited cuz he worked hard to get down to 225. So we were all pullin for him. but he can play 2,3 and 4. He only played 10 minutes in two games. You might be right, but how can we use that kind of PT to tell?

With Adam out, I wouldn't mind Gabe, but unless he can rebound as good as an average PF, I don't see that really happening.
Not to mention he had a pretty bad pre-season.

If he can effectively play the 4 and not get bullied, sure. If he's a 3 that can play the other spots, then no thank you just because we have a glut of those already....

Dav,
In the past those contracts were given out often because teams had an IR. However, teams abused the IR status, letting healthy guys who were mediocre to poor ballers stay on the IR while they developed free agents on the cheap. So, the NBA gave every team 15 spots (12 dress for each game) and let them do what they want with them. If we have guaranteed contracts at those spots, there's nothing we can do about it aside from the special appeal that Spectre mentioned.
So, basically, May and Morrison are our 14th and 15th man now.

Makes a lot of sence to me now thanks guys. So at most we playing with a 13 man roster basicaly. If Harrington dont play we at 12 . lets just say some one else gets hurt and takes us to eleven players , Can we sign ten day contracts then.

There's a special disability option that we could seek that would allow us to sign a player at 60% of an injured player's salary (that player has to be done for the year). However, we'd have to exercise the option within 45 days of the player being placed on the inactive list. So, if we wanted to get anyone worthwhile, we'd have to sign him in the next month or so. If that next player is a scrub, we'd only be able to get 60% of the scrub's salary.
The NBA demands has limitations (minimum and maximum) on rosters to make sure people don't do wacky things and try to find loopholes in roster spots. However, they're also looking out for healthy competition, providing opportunities for teams with legitimate teams to sign players.
In other words, we'll always have enough horses in the stable. They just may not run very fast.

Dnbman very well explained [ rep it up] . Im just guessing but with Morrison we would have a little less than two milion to spend on another player if we file. So if we chose to do so we could do a little over a milion for May all so. If insurance is paying thair salerys why not do it now while it's decent players left.
What would you guys think about picking up P.J. Brown for Morrison and
Picking a point in Boyinkins to replace May.
In reality that could be done or somthing close to it.
Damn the experiance of PJ and Boink would put us as good as we was befor the injerys because they would be in places of team need. P.J could be a damn big help to all our bigs including OK50. Boink could push Felts.

If the Bobcats cut Brevin Knight to make sure there was harmony in the locker room, I don't see them bringing in Boykins - nor do I see him interested in coming here. He would be hard pressed to get close to the 30 minutes a game he saw last year and I doubt that would sit well with him.

The only ways to pick up roster spots is if we have another injury...we apply for an exception and then MAYBE we're given ONE roster spot or we cut a guaranteed contract ( most not needed is Harrington - 2.4 million).
They're not going to cut Touche' or Derek Anderson. I wish they would cut Touche' and Harrington both...but I just don't see them doing it. Touche' because they had to have known his limitations going in but re-signed him anyway over all the other prospects, and Harrington because of the money.
DA shouldn't be in the conversation...IMO we were damn lucky to get him back.
Barring a trade...IF we do gain another spot (which I feel is very unlikely) it's going to be a vet min player.
