View Full Version : ESPN boards the worst: Ironic?

So, as a fairly social Bobcat fan, I tend to mingle on many of the message boards, even if only as a lurker (RealGM for example). You see a lot of the same folks, and it's all cordial and stuff. There are some knuckleheads, just like in real life.

However, I'm continually amazed at how pathetic so many of the posters on ESPN's message board are. It's one thing to have short sighted views on a team you don't follow (ie 98% of NBA fans about the Bobcats.) However, it's another to be plain ridiculous trolls. I think people didn't even look at the standings and assumed we were the worst team in the league, even though we were better than several teams.

It's just amazing how many people show up on arguably the most influential sports media's website and write such clueless posts.

I guess they draw the most people, bringing in the proportional amount of trolls and knuckleheads. However, for every 2-3 legitimate posts, there's at least one ridiculous posts. Because of this ratio, ESPN's Bobcat board is probably the worst on the net.

So, anyone find that ironic, or is the fact very telling about what ESPN represents?

Yeah the trolls are every where; should check out the panther board at charlotte.com geeze trolls every where..... :g:

Yeah, they certainly suck. So do Yahoo's. Everyone is always like "FIRST!" or just go "LAKERS RULE!".

To hell with that. I prefer good ol' bobcatsplanet :biggrin:

Luckily all of us are here to get rid of the trolls that come along from time to time...

I really don't go to any other boards, unless someone here links it. I do remeber though, that at the Astros webiste a few years ago, I was a poster there (before I found the Houston Chronicle), there would be jerkoff Cubs and Cards fans posting astute comments such as "You guys suck", "Bagwell looks like he's taking a dump when he bats...hehe", and one that I'll always remember from 2001, "Roy Oswalt isn't half the pitcher Kerry Wood is. He couldn't hold his jockstrap." If that guy wasn't the greatest talent evaluator in this continent, I don't know who ever was :P

Once I find a quality site, such as bobcatsplanet, I have no use for those other, inferior sites. Yes, ESPN, you are INFERIOR to bobcatsplanet!!!!!!!!!

Oh God yeah, ESPN has the WORST boards on the net. I've only seen a few good posters on there.

Thing about Bobcatsplanet is no one talks junk about you [ your spelling or how stupid you are] We like a family we might disagree between our selfs . But let some else jump on us . They jump on the whole board . Thats why i think we represent the Bobcats better than any of the other boards because we stick toghter through good and bad times with the team. And with each other.

I didn't want to tell you this, but Ziggy set up a thread called "Let's Make Fun of Dav7z" that you can't access.

If it makes you feel better, most of the posts consists of Big Slam constructing emoticons into phrases like "Wallace Rulez" or "Primo Droolz."

I agree: these boards are the friendliest. Yet, there's still plenty of in depth discussion.

yea espn is garbage...the website is pointless unless you have a bottomless pit of money to access to "real parts" of the site

I agree with the other posts about the positive culture of this fan site. I like that everyone is here as a fan of the team, and not trying to out snark each other to prove how vastly superior their intellect is. A lot of people (especially on the Charlotte.com comments) feel better about themselves by putting down other posters.(like Will on the panthers boards) It's difficult to keep an educated discussion going, it usually has a couple of jackasses who just want to write in their offensive, uneducated opinion; which directs the conversation far from the point of the article. Its easy to be an internet tough guy, I guess. Anyway all I am trying to say is keep up the good work guys, this is where I come when I want a good educated discussion with fellow fans.

Let me join the love-in for Bobcatsplanet. It really is great. Not only are we cordial, but we also have a majority of constructive posts (aside from my occasional bid at cheap laughs).

We've been very fortunate so far not to be invaded by trouble makers, trolls and others who just want to spread negativity.
I can honestly say ( even though I'm slightly biased :P ) that this is one of the best sports boards on the web.
I hope that we continue to grow and maintain the same high standard.

I'll just be another to say that I agree with the thoughts expressed - Espn's boards are just awful - not because of the setup, but the people who spend time on them. Superfans and trolls - stimulating discussion.
