In the lottery next year or out. Please Specify what pick # too so we can get a feel for the players in that range.

On nbadraft.net we're #15. It has us taking Kevin Love (Freshman PF from UCLA). His first game was monstrous (22 pts, 13 rebs 75% FG).

Unless we get a chance on a PG like O.J. Mayo or Derrick Rose, it's almost a guarantee we get the best big man available, either a PF or a C.

In this range, We have the option of getting Hasheem Thabeet, Andrew Ogilvy (vanderbilt Freshman Center), Devon Hardin (senior PF from california)

We have so many options for big men this year it's crazy. I like Hibbert but he wouldn't fit the quick game we play. He's a great halfcourt player but I think he'd struggle with our game.

I was somewhat surprised to see that nbadraft.net has Tyler H. from UNC going undrafted. With his size, I thought surely he was a 2nd round prospect. I guess they fear his lack of athleticism - no matter how much Dick Vitale loves him.

I was surprised to see Kevin Love go that far back, but I hope we are picking out of the lottery. When it comes to the draft many people might want to wait and load up for next year, as this is a fairly deep draft. I say we play for the win every night instead like we did last year, instead of the celtics "foot injury" strategy, and teach our guys to be hard workers. I dont want us picking in the lottery this year unless it is with a trade.

Absolutely. Part of the reason that I love this team so much is that they didn't tank last year, when they could've and no one would've questioned it. They don't give up games without a fight.

We'll see where we end up drafting next year and then we can figure out who we're drafting. I'm thinking that there'll be a nice Big or a good backup PG available whenever we pick.

I say it's 90% likely we pick a big, no matter where we draft.

We need a big and a small but the big has priority..... :g:

I think we could get a quality backup point in the 2nd round, sean singletary maybe?

I wouldn't have any problem grabbing Ty Lawson if he fell, but I doubt he will.

Anyone else seen Michael beasley's first two game stats? Insane! Here they are:

32 points, 24 rebounds, 4 assists, 8 turnovers, 2 steals, 4 blocks in 94-63 win over Sacramento State; 30 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 turnovers in 76-66 win over Pittsburg State

Beasley and Love will both be great this year. DeAndre Jordan is the true Center at 7'0 that I would love to get. But face it, I do not see us geting a top 5 pick unless we make the lottery and our ping pong balls are magic. We have a weaker than expected Division with Miami and Washington regressing, and Atlanta is improved but very young. (They still worry me a lot) We have a fairly good shot at 2nd in the Division behind Orlando, and if we begin to gel better, mayble a shot at them as well.
Man, without May and Morrison, and without a true Center to play alongside Okafor, I really am impressed with our effort so far. 4-3, is OK, but we should be 5-2. Tonight will show us something as we have to go to Atlanta. Will we be 4-4 or 5-3? This game will go a long way in telling us our potential.

hopefully we get the 15th pick meaning we have a very solid season this year but I would love seeing us draft Andrew Ogilvy this guy is going to be a very productive pro and I am very interested to see how well he does in the SEC this year.

in the 2009 mock draft (at the top of the page) they have hansbrough going #30 overall. i think that is about right considering he won't be able to bully people on the nba level.

hopefully we'll get kevin love, he'd be a great compliment to okafors defense

nbadraft.net has nothing on him except he's from Australia, 6'11 with solid weight and he's a FR at Vandy. What do you know of him, and do you think he would be better than Love from UCLA? Although Love is projected as a PF, and Ogilvy may be big enough to play C and allow Okafor to play the PF. I just know that from what I have seen and heard, Love is pretty good. I would hate to pass on something I know was good to take a flyer on someone I don't know much about. But your are right, we will know more about Ogilvy by his play in the SEC this season.

So are you guys thinking in the lottery? If so we always have a chance....
It might be impossible but there is always a chance

I saw that Hansbrough went undrafted on the nbadraft.net. I checked the other draft "inside website" http://www.draftexpress.com/ and they had him going #17. I think he would be just what we need (assuming we make the playoffs and draft in the middle). He would be a major upgrade over Voshkul (who we should have resigned) and is not afraid to get dirty to get the boards. He is also driven to succeed, as Ty Lawson called him the "hardest worker he has ever seen, ever" I think he could be at least as good as Brad Miller with more of a power game. I know he plays the same position as Mek, but if you move Mek to 5 then your rebounding worries are solved.

I'd prefer someone with a higher ceiling, even if it is riskier. We can take a lower ceiling player in the 2nd if need be.

Hansborobot just seems too slow. I think we'd probably have a better option.

have you guys looked at jason thompson from rider? The kid is 6'11 and is was the only player to go 20 10 last year besides durant and fazekas. He looks to me like the opposite of Hollins/Davidson. He has a polished game on both sides of the court and is not much of a project. His weak school usually doesnt produce nba caliber players but he performed well against high quality teams in the old spice classic.

Jason Thomson is starting to get good press. I don't think he will go in Lottery tho, but should go shortly thereafter.

Interesting to read Chad Ford's Top 100 at ESPN. He has been pretty accurate over the recent years. He has a kid named John Riek listed at the 10th most desireable in the draft. Kid is a Center born in the Sudan but playing Prep in Mass. He is 7-2, 230 pounds with frame that can handle about 20-30 more pounds. He is a JR. in school, but since Internationals can enter by age, he is eligible. He turns 19 in November 08 so he is eligible. He apparently made a huge impact at the LaBron James Skills Academy and Mike Hoops Jamboree and is starting to get the press. 7-7 wing span, very athletic and runs court well, big time shot blocker and rebounder - a force on Defense. Emerging skills on offense. Says the scouts believe he will be a force in the NBA in the future.

If the Ping Pong balls fall our way, I would rather take one of the Franchise Players - Beasley, Jordan, Mayo etc...
But, if we are in the late Lottery and he is available, he might be worth looking at. It will be interesting to watch what they say about him. Chad Ford stays up on these international players well, and this kid may turn out to be something special or the scouts may say "stay away".

I really don't want to draft a PG in the first round, because I think Raymond is our PG for now and the future, and I think he's doing well enough that he doesn't need replaced, if we drafted one 2nd round to back him up then that's fine, but IMO we need to get a PF that can step in and start right away if we can find one, one that shoots, rebounds, and defends well...Not one that just does 2/3 or even 1/3...

I feel you on Ray, but if we have a chance to grab Mayo or Rose, 2 young stud PG's who can do it all, I take them and play them WITH Ray. Sig J-Rich to be a 6th coming off bench. Let Ray help them for a bit at the Pro level, but let Ray basically be the 2 gurard. He is a solid scorer with good PG instincts, but he is more of a scorer. I would love him at the 2 if we had Mayo or Rose at the PG. I'd do that in a heartbeat unless we could grabl Beasley.

Im just still not set on us going in the lottery this year. I feel strongly that we will get out of this little hole and start winning, and the playoffs still seem viable. In that case should we go for best available and play the Free Agent market, or maybe go for that PF that we so desperately need?

KEVIN LOVE!!!

Kevin Love will be available 12-17 picks. He is great in half court set, but will not be a runner. If you want to be a running team, got to have someone a little more athletic at the PF position.

love may not be a runner, but he has been called the best outlet passer EVER in the high school ranks. he will not be finishing our break, instead he will be starting it

If we are picking in the mid teens, then I would take Love, no doubt. However, I think we will be picking well before then. That is, unless management manages to pull off a major steal in a trade. As constituted, we are definitely Lottery bound, and it's getting to be a higher pick each day that passes.

We've got to be the most injury prone team in the NBA or maybe one of the most.... Seems like all the players we were counting on to bring us out of the lottery are going down injured. Maybe Herrmann will have a chance to play more. We need help.... :g:

Do you remember how for the longest time, that is what was happening to the Clippers? Danny Manning tore up his knee like every other top pick they had. It stopped for a while, then they get Elton Brand from Chicago, he starts to dominate as a PF, and now he gets injured. I think maybe the Basketball Gods needed us to fill in for Clippers for a while. I think we have served out time!

I like DJ Augustine mid-late in the lottery.

It will all depend on where we pick.

Greene might be nice in the top 3 along with Beasley and Rose.
