Who is better: Billy Joel or Elton John?

I had an argument with my friend on who was the better musician and who was more famous. I figured that we could settle this on the planet? I definately think Billy Joel is better and more famous. Just wondering what you guys think.

Agreed, I'd give Joel the nod for skills, but John the nod for popularity. Something they both do well, though, is have first names for both of their names. They excell in that field.
