Yeah, Gil's been hurtin' my fantasy team. Latest I've heard is that he didn't practice the other day, but he's expected to play tonight. Which means he'll probably play tomorrow unless something further happens with his knee. (For the record, I'm not wishing that on him at all; kid's got spunk.)

As long as we play our game, hit the bulk of our shots, hit at least 50% from the freebee zone and exploit Washington's weak spots along with good defence we should win no problem if Gilbert is out..... :g:

I like wallace playing Jamison in this one . I think Ok50 can hold down Haywood. This might be a good game to give them a big dose of the Hammer to go along with Felton , OK, Crash, Rich . I don't think they can keep up with our speed.
If we win this one it's the first time we ever been 3 games over 500..;
Ill be in the sweit next to Jordons tomorrow night. Hope he at least speaks to us if hes thair. Only ones i've seen in it this year so far is Derek Jeeter, Jordon, Johnson. and a few i dont know.

I'm betting Jordan's still in Maui watching his son play college ball (which he's been doing the past 2 nights). A nice Curry-esque move for Mike.

I agree, Mutt. Even though his personal life has taken some hits over recent years, it's good to see MJ is there for his son, which is a bigger priority at this point. Plus, you know he's doing his share of scouting, so it's a win/win.
I think having all management at all the games is overrated anyway. I mean, really, what can they do? You know they're watching all the games, and doing their behind-the-scenes stuff, so it's no problem. Anyway, Bernie is always up there in his roost, to the upper left of where I sit in 107. I'll still never forget how fast he left when Raymond went down against Phoenix...and the look on his face was priceless (especially since it turned out to be realatively harmless).
As far as the Wiz goes, we really need this one, because we have two beasts coming up on a back to back. It's incredibly possible we're going to lose both those games, so we need a little cushion so we'll still be above .500. I actually think GW should man against Butler, instead of Antawn; he's more of a playmaker, and I think if Antawn settles for 3s, JRich can handle him, with Emeka dominating the middle against anybody they put in.

Whether GA plays or not I say we win. Just, if he plays it'll be a little bit more of a challenge. As long as Crash can man up Butler, and Okafor controls the paint, then I don't see how we can lose. That is, if we have a good shooting night. 47%+ should do the job.

Is Bernie in 104 next to ours or is he on the end around 108 or 109. Ive never noticed him does he sit at the back . Jordon just stands at the frunt the two games i saw him. He don't say nothing just looks pissed. He was laughing the night Jeeter was with him

Finally we have a game on TV again that I'll be home to watch.
No way we should lose this one they have been on a run but with Arenas more than likely not suiting up for this game the chances of them taking this game is less likely to happen. I have faith that Emeka can shut down Haywood and Blatche when he see's the floor and HOPEFULLY stays out of foul trouble we'll need him tonight.
7-4 record will be great.

Haywood said he wouldn't play against the Bobcats because of a sprained left ankle, leaving Washington with only nine healthy players.
"That's the business, man," Haywood said. "Life's not always fair. He's out right now and everybody is down about it. Everybody wishes him the best. Right now all we can do is pray for him and hope he has a speedy recovery."
The 6-foot-4 Arenas is averaging 22.4 points.

The only reason that the Wizards are still in this is because the FT differential is 19 to 4 for them. That's ridiculous, no home court love.

Now only if Wallace could shoot free throws, then he'd be great, he's having a good game, but his free throws...the teams free throws just piss me off...definitely in close games like this....We got one quarter to go, we need to win it...
We need to shut down Caron Butler as well...and stop fouling, they've scored over 23 points on FT's alone..

Give mad props to to Felton, IMO Player of the game for our team tonight...Wallace played good, but his free throws, and not just him, not trying to single him out, but as a team the free throw percentage was horrible, just think one more free throw made in regulation and we would have won...that's all...just 1

Man, this sucks big time. We let a team come into our house without their best player and without their starting Center, and they spanked out asses. I'm pleased with Ray, but a few too many TO's. Gerald scored OK, and Okafor was fine with 20 pts and 14 brds. J-Rich just disappeared on us; and it cost us big time tonight. He killed us tonight.
Look, I know Antawn will get his 27 and 12, but how in the heck did we let Caron Butler get 39!!! He's a good player, but Damn boys, play some kind of Defense!
This was a huge blow to us. Potentially 7-4, becomes 6-5. Two losses coming up, and we we will be below .500. We have lost 2nd in the Division to Washington, who will be w/o Gilbert for 3 months. I bet they beat our ass every time this year. I think they want it more.
When you have rest, and you are at home and hosting a HUGE game and the opposition is without their star player, and they come in and take your manhood from you, ...... I hate to say it, but I must question our Heart. 3 of our big 4 showed up, and it was not enough. No one stepped up and laid some timber on Caron Butler. What would the old Pistons, the Bad Boys have done? They would have taken his heart out by knocking him to the damn floor every time he touched the ball. Oh for someone like Bill Lambier or Rodman to just lay someone out when they drive anywhere near the paint. Where are the Men on the team, the heroes who will stand up and NOT let you lose these type games? Somewhere else, but not in Charlotte. I feel like crying.
ALong13
11-21-2007, 10:19 PM
I'd like to surprise the league and beat both, but it'll be hard, IMO the Magic are the best team in the East, a win over them would be incredible, and then I'm going to the game against Boston, to see them win would be great....It'll be hard, but not impossible...

I've been quiet for a while with coaching high school football, but I'm back now....guys you have to realize something here. It was HEART that got this game to overtime, and it was HEART that gave them a chance to tie on the last shot. How many times did you think we were done, I mean just go back and look at the earlier posts in the game thread. How can you question this team's heart when they have no real depth, Crash sells out every other play and plays through pain, and Felton put the whole team on his shoulders. Yeah it was disappointing we lost, it hurts, but come on now, you guys make it sound like we're talking about the Panthers, now that's a team with no heart and cohesion.

Hollins and Rich were pretty terrible. I'm glad Herrmann is getting PT but tonight he should have gotten more, even though he seemed a bit trigger happy. At least, I know I'll never have to question Wallace's heart, it sometimes looks like he'll die trying to help us win.

Yeah it was disappointing we lost, it hurts, but come on now, you guys make it sound like we're talking about the Panthers, now that's a team with no heart and cohesion.

Fully agree with you about the Panthers. The only one there I see who shows me great desire and fire is Beason. I am so disappointed in Peppers, it ain't funny.
My question of the Heart of this team is about their Defensive Heart. Yes, they rallied to get the game to OT. But how in the world do you let a team, Without their leader and franchise player, come into your house and let a good but not great player drop 39 on you? No one was knocking him down, making him pay. NO ONE!! That is why I question the Heart of this team. They just let Jamison and Caron Butler win this game by themselves. We had 3 of our big 4 show up offensively, but NO ONE showed up on Defense. That is pathetic.

Man, tonight was a definite disappointment. We should really have been 7-4 right now going into Friday/Saturday's games. I don't like GWallace being the guy to shoot 3s in OT to keep us in the game. I know they were guarding Hammer hard, but that ball has to be in Matt or Jason's hands when we're down by three like that. Again, even before that, when it came down to needing to score points (ie - all of overtime), it seemed like we would just settle for J's and give up on driving to the basket. When we stop driving our offense looks impotent.
On the positive, Davidson and Hermann looked good when they were on the court, which wasn't all that long. I agree that they should have had some more minutes.
This just sucks. How about let's beat the Magic and stay north of 500.

We gave one up tonight; frankly we were fortunate to get to overtime.
But there's no way we should go to overtime or lose to the Wizards at home.
Observations; mostly negative I'm afraid.
The Wizards for the most part: Blatche, Jamison, Butler, Stevenson, Daniels. Put Okafor in the middle, check; put Wallace on Butler, check; use Felton, JRich and Carroll to OWN the Wizards guards, spell Felton with McInnis, check. Cycle Hollins, Davidson, Herrmann and Dudley at PF or even Herrmann and Dudley at some SF, check.
Nope.
Instead, how about starting Brezac again just for laughs? I mean by this point that little moment of joy just gets better and better. Then after a little bit cycle in McInnis with Felton and JRich so that NO ONE HAS A FREAKING PRAYER of stopping Caron Butler. Put JRich on Butler so much that you exhaust the poor SOB in the 3rd Quarter. Forget Carroll altogether and keep driving into the paint head-down and hell bent - never, ever pass out to Carroll when he's wide open, lordy. Play Davidson just enough to see how good he is; and then when he gets 3 fouls, totally forget about him for the rest of the game.
Sorry, I was at the game tonite and I'm just a little pissed. Felton had good stats for sure, but really it was too much bad Felton tonite, even with his 12 assists, at crunch time, he forgot his shooters and tried to do it all himself. McInnis? Jeez, maybe he can match up well defensively when your problem is Michael Redd, but when it's Caron Butler who's out there, playing 3 guards is just stupid. Butler is WAY to big, strong and confident. He was laughing at us; schooling our coach, who I'm afraid may not even realize it.
Davidson was great for a short time, but he's a rookie and picked up 3 quick fouls. Still, he provides so much, I'd make sure I got all 6 out of him. Didn't happen.
The NBA MEN on the court tonite: Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler, Gerald Wallace and Emeka Okafor. Those are 4 bonified NBA studs. I was amazed at the presence of Butler on the court and Jamison too, but still there was really just two of them, with a little Blatche to help. We had the depth of numbers and talent to beat them readily, if only we had used it.
After the game I heard Sam talk about how he figured the Wizards would not have enough in the tank to compete in overtime, since they were on a back-to-back. Wrong Sam, and please don't ever ever think mature teams and coaches give a rats ass whether they played the night before. If they smell blood, they will eat you up. You were OWNED tonite Sam.
edit: I see Davidson had FOUR fouls in 5 minutes. Sheesh, oh well; I'd still have gotten my 6 out of him lol.

Is Bernie in 104 next to ours or is he on the end around 108 or 109. Ive never noticed him does he sit at the back . Jordon just stands at the frunt the two games i saw him. He don't say nothing just looks pissed. He was laughing the night Jeeter was with him
He sits out in the open around 108/109. He's easy to spot.

I haven't been able to see the game yet, but judging by your comments, this is why some folks are picking us to be a 33 or so win team:
1. Inexperienced coach
2. Lack of quality inside depth
3. JRich being nothing more than a jumpshooter, and not the "star" we thought we were getting.
I absolutely cannot believe that JRich started off guarding Butler. I trust Keetch on this, but I'm going to have to see the tape to believe it. And then alternates with Jeff?!?! If I had been at the game and seen that at the start, I'd have felt a wave of terror, and doom and gloom. Wow. I'd love to know what Sam's rationale was with that. As was said in an earlier post, Antawn is a star vet, so he's going to get his 20-30+ points, that's why you lock down on Butler, to the point of double teaming him at times, to let the role players make the big shots.
The intrigue begins anew: Washington has shown they know what it takes to get together and make it happen no matter what, now we get to see these next couple of games. We'll either fold, or rise to the challenge. If we have playoff aspiration, we have to be able to beat a good team sometime, and since Milwaukee has been our best win so far, our guys have a hell of a lot to prove! It's all well and good to be bottomfeeders, but you also need to step up and stick it to some elite teams to. We'll see. I think by the team we're leaving the arena on Saturday night (as we're all going from what I can tell), we'll know a lot more about our team, and what our chances of doing anything this year really are.

I dont think there is much anyone could have done vs caron. At times tonight in the fourth he could not miss. He would throw one up and it would hit in key moments when we could take a lead. That is why the whole 4th we were catching up, and the same applies to the OT as well. We were getting hands in his face but he was still connecting. And jamison just killed us from the line

Excellent post. There was one time at the 4 minute mark where I remember saying to myself out loud "We're done".
I think this team has plenty of heart.

Beagle: I don't think we started with JRich on Butler, but once McInnis came in and the 3 guard rotation got going, it was on. A little of that is fine; but it just wasn't working against the Wizards and Sam stayed with it much too long. It was a bit agonizing. Not just JRich, but Carroll and Felton often got caught against Butler mismatches.
I totally disagree that no one could have stopped Butler.
JRich was off; picking up early fouls and misfiring shots, and then in the 2nd half he was visibly tired.
Wallace really had a terrible fall and it slowed him down some, though he was working through it like a warrior. I hope he's okay. I was surprised he got up.
I think this team has a tremendous amount of heart, but so do the Wizards. All the heart in the world can't win games when the coach is having a bad night. I expect any player to be off on any given night, it can't be helped. I'm not terribly unhappy with Felton or even JRich for instance, I love those guys. But the coach? Not so sure; but Vincent definitely lost this game; not the players.
Jamison and Butler clearly enjoy playing in Charlotte and were very into last nights game. Antawn seems to have a great relationship with McInnis, as you'd expect I guess. The two of them clearly enjoyed seeing each other.

I think that the Wiz really exploited our thin front line, and we were really missing that 5th player.  Going in we had to worry about Butler, Jamison and Blatche.  Since Mek can only cover one of them and it pretty much had to be Blatche that left our worst player in the lineup covering Jamison.  Of course that doesn't work so Crash has to slide over and cover him...leaving Butler to one of either JRich/Felton or once again that 5th worst player.
They really exploited that hole in our lineup, and I really don't know what V could have done unless someone other than the core four really stepped it up.  DA might have been the guy to activate this game due to his defense, but even he isn't what he used to be.
We REALLY need that 5th player as well as a defensive minded perimeter guy.  We won't get exposed by every team, but those with 2 good bigs and a great perimeter player will.
Not to say V didn't make mistakes; he did.

Spectre: of course we do have a gaping hole at the four; but I'm not sure that playing 3 guards solves it against a team like the Wizards. Of the 2 players, Butler is the much better shooter. Jamison was only hurting us inside, not outside. We have Hollins, Davidson, Dudley, Herrmann; and Wallace if Duds or Herrmann go SF. That's the best we can do. I would have used them all as much as possible and hope for the best, but not play 3 guards and give Butler free shots.
Wallace's fall and injury effected him a lot too. That had to limit his effectiveness on defense. He sure pulled up that last shot for 3. His bruised ribs were causing him a lot of pain.
Dunno...but its all good; moving on to Turkey and then the Magics :)

Right...3 guards didn't solve it, as none are defensive oriented. Just saying with our existing lineup I don't think we have a solution. He can try throwing everything at them (which we did in a small way), but it probably won't work more than it will.
Positive: Our best player was playing hurt thru the 2nd half and yet we STILL forced OT even with the disadvantage.
Happy Thanksgiving guys.

We talking so much junk about no heart . All i seen was heart
Wallace should have never came back in to the game in the 3rd HE was hurting bad in the 3rd . He give all he had on offence and barely able to get back up the court after a shoot. No body see the ice on his ribs at the end of the third . Coach took him out for the game but Wallace wth no heart wanted back in any way.
Felton didn't have no heart 27pts 12 assist. Yes he shot alot in the forth but Wallace was done for and Rich was cold as ice. He put the damn team on his back and give a 110 percent. No heart WOW must have seen a different game.
All so talking about junk about Carroll .He hit a key three to take us to over time no heart Wow.
All so talking junk about geting no boards . OK50 was busting his ass to get a board. To go along with 18 pts .
No heart we would have never seen over time had the coach not started a full court press with Hollins and Felton foecing the issue NO heart wow.
If we just had one more big to go along with our no heart we win 50 games easy.
We haven't heart and a will, just not enough talent yet to be top level team. But we're moving in the right direction.
