This may take you a bit of time, but it might be an interesting experiment.

Suppose all of the NBA players were suddenly redrafted by teams. There's 30 teams in the league, as you know.

Where our five best players be drafted? You're basically going to 150 picks. But if you get some time, try it.

Keep in mind, this is not fantasy basketball, though it is a bit of fantasy. Rather than sheer stats, you're taking into account the real effect a player has on the court.

Do we have a player in the first round? Do we have five players in the top 150?

No way do we have anybody drafted in the first 30 picks, not a snowball's chance. Just think about this short list: Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Shaq, Dwight Howard, Dirk, KG, Paul Pierce, CP3, TMac, Yao, Nash, Amare, Marion... we're halfway there, and I haven't even brought up Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, and whatever other superstars I'm leaving out.

Players in the top 150? I'm thinking 2: GW and 'Mek. I can't imagine anyone else starting for another team except maybe Raymond and JRich, but that would depend on who has been drafted before, and what the teams need/covet more in this hypothetical draft.

Cool idea to think about, DNB!! Maybe to add on: who would you want the Bobcats to pick with their first pick? My top 3 are: Dwight Howard, Duncan, CP3.

i'd say 4 players would be in the top 150 (rich, wallace, okafor, ray) but everyone else would be towards the bottom of this "draft"

Im in the fansty league . And after you get past 50 players then it gets interesting. We had seven on draft night and out of nine teams we still carry five. With me carrying the worst fansty Bobcat , Carroll . But he is easyly in the top 150. At 30 teams carrying 12 players thats 320 players .

Sad thing is we could/should have had 2 of those 3....

We could have had Dwight? :wow1: Last time I checked, we had the 2nd pick of the draft not the first.

There's been way too much speculation about us being able to get Howard and Paul. The bottom line is that we didn't. And underneath that line is the big chain of history called "hindsight." At any rate....

Just to reiterate: this is not for a fantasy basketball team. This is you starting a real team. In what round would you pick our five best players?

I'd probably pick Wallace or Okafor around 40. I wouldn't want them to be my primary player, but I'd be happy to have either to be my secondary player. I'd expect Felton to go somewhere between 60 and 80. PGs and Cs are tough to come by. Given that Felton is a top 15 pg (debatable; I think he is), he'd probably be gone by 80. Richardson would probably be somewhere between 70 and 90. With a late third round pick, I'd be happy to have him.

My top 30 would probably look something like this: (taking age into account)

1. Lebron James
2. Kobe Bryant (I hate this guy, but I'd turn into a winner.)
3. Kevin Garnett
4. Tim Duncan (he's old, but I'd ride that horse til it broke!)
5. Yao Ming
6. Steve Nash (see Duncan)
7. Dwayne Wade
8. Dirk Nowitzki
9. Chris Paul
10. Pau Gasol
11. Dwight Howard
12. Elton Brand
13. Amare Stoudemire
14. Jason Kidd
15. Carlos Boozer
16. Chris Bosh
17. Baron Davis
18. Jermaine O'Neal
19. Al Jefferson
20. Carmelo Anthony
21. Chauncey Billups
22. Gilbert Arenas
23. Paul Pierce
24. Tracy McGrady
25. Joe Johnson
26. Shawn Marion
27. Josh Howard
28. Deron Williams
29. Marcus Camby
30. Vince Carter

Wallace would be top 50. Felton, Richardson, and Okafor would all be top 100.

Wow. I know this stuff is purely subjective, but how do you take Yao, Pau, and KG before Dwight?!?!? ???

Howard's great, but I think he's mostly raw force. Those other three can still get you tons of boards and points while also making plays Out to 15-20 feet.

Basically, it you take Howard, you've got to use him 5 feet from the basket and surround him with shooters. If I take one of those other guys, I can do whatever I want.
