View Full Version : Is this a cynical idea, or am I just a moonbat?

Ok, after reading the whole thing on Varejao on Charlotte.com, I had a very cynical thought. This all would go out the window though with us getting AV, but just play along with me here.

Seeing as how Dudley has gotten some decent burn and proved himself to be quite capable at the NBA level, why not use him as trading bait to lure a big from a team needing a versatile wingman?

Not to say that I did any type of research on this subject, like, who was struggling with their 3 guys and had enough bigs to repopulate the planet with giants. But it's an interesting idea to entertain oneself with while toilet reading.

Of course, Othella or Herrmann might be jettisoned as well in a trade, but hey, right now we need a big. As much as I love Dudley, I'd love a possible race to the playoffs a lot more.

Feel free to flame me, but let me know what you think!

I want to set a solid foundation for long-term success; I think Dudley is one of the few bright pieces of the foundation (along with GW, Matt, and Mek). If we could get an absolute steal for someone, I'm all for it though. That said, the chances of that happening are not realistic at all.

My wishes in terms of roster moves are these:

1. Don't do anything that could ruin our cap for this off-season.
2. Sign Antawn this off-season.
3. If we can't deal our pick this season along with some other player(s) for a game-changer, then let's get a solid pick in the draft.
4. Obviously, dump Harrington.
5. Go after CP3, when he becomes a FA, full-effin'-throttle (if we don't acquire a really good PG before then). He's already the "Mayor" of Winston-Salem; it's time for him to be "Governor" of North Carolina!!

Aside from No.5, I don't think these wishes are that unrealitic, and hopefully will come to pass.

Other than that, interesting question, and while I wouldn't necessarily go along with it, I wouldn't accuse you of being a "moonbat" either, even if I knew what that was

Ha, I don't quite know what a moonbat is either, I just heard Neil Boortz call Nancy Pelosi one, not that I'm a libertarian anyway, but it made me laugh.

Yea, I don't think it is anywhere near as realistic as say the chance that we'll sign AV or some other RFA big. I think it would have to be sometime early next year when we're realllly needing to eke out about 8-10 wins to make the playoffs and Vincent is starting to sweat.

I love Dudley though, man, even though the announcers last night (on news 14) were gushing about him like they were swinging from his scrotum, I still think the kid has some major hustle and persistence.

I just can't see Harrington living past 15 minutes a game, did anybody see him last night? I mean, he looked like he had Sean May syndrome. I'm surprised there wasn't one of those kids with the mops following him...

i have no idea where this CP3 dream comes from... but he will never play for charlotte.

He will be locked up for a long time by NO. not even a question.

Dudley's contract is too small too net anyone of consequence on its own...and it's not like the Bobcats have any big expiring contracts to work with either. Primoz and Othella both come off the books after this year, but at $2.75MM and $2.4MM respectively, that does not hold a lot of sway either.
Besides that, I'd rather keep Dudley. Even if a trade were pulled off, this team is nothing more than first round fodder - Dudley has the look of a long time pro, never an all-star, but a solid rotation guy...and the Bobcats need more of those, so no reason to give Dudley up for a more expensive, older model.

That's true, I guess I should have qualified my ADD thought with the idea that this would only ever happen towards the last 3rd of the season as teams are making a push and injuries are mounting. And that (trade) would only be plausible if teams were short a big also and desired a Slovenian "Warrior!" who becomes the neighborhood door knob on defense or old man Othella flying through screens in his scooter yelling "Hover-round!"

As much as I wish we could have CP3, I still have a odd feeling about his health. Granted the dude is in shape, I just don't think he'll be able to hold up like Felton would over 10 seasons. Just my gut (as I type "gut" a cat vomits in the background) feeling.

It'd be nice if Herrmann suddenly bulked up and started crashing the boards...

Love the blog Brett..thanks for your $.02

It comes from a simple desire to see a winning team take the court in Charlotte, which is a rather foreign concept, so I can understand your confusion. Also, I wouldn't say "never," though it's unlikely. Chris has no loyalty to NO, as NO, the city, has no loyalty to him or the team he plays for. When he comes home during the off-season, we drop hints we want him back in NC. Spoke to him at Cactus Jack's last summer and asked him about playing for us, he said something to the effect of, "You never know, but they already have a point guard."

It's highly unlikely we'll get him, but I don't see him playing for NO either, after his rookie deal is up.
