So, I'm sure many of you have seen what is basically spam about a site called Cyber Dunk? They had some really annoying posts about it would be a fun thing to do in the off season.
After seeing so many of the posts, I, being one big sucker, decided just to see what it was. So, I went to the site and joined.
Here's what I discovered:
The actual game interface is pretty mediocre. They call it a MMORPG (like World of Warcraft), but you're not moving a character around. Instead, you design a virtual basketball player, setting his height, stats, etc. After playing for a while, I realized that the game by itself was only moderately interesting. However, I joined up with a bunch of folks who have been playing and realized it's actually quite a lot of fun.
Here's why:
It provides a completely pointless but fun basketball related game to talk a bunch of smack with one another. There's a big group of people playing in the league I'm in, making it a pretty big social game. Now, we've gotten to the point where there are a lot of very competitive teams who can't wait until we play each other in the schedule.
The one downside is that in order to be competitive with everyone on the site, you have to put a lot of money into the game. However, if a bunch of folks joined just to play each other, we could have a good time without spending any money.
At any rate, if you get a chance, check out the Cyber Dunk site: http://www.cyberdunk.com/?ref=51249
Again, the game is pretty ridiculous, but it's kind of fun if you get a bunch of folks together to play. Also, it only requires a few minutes a day to play it. You don't have to invest a whole lot of time to enjoy it.
Ziggy, hope you don't mind me posting this, but I thought the folks on here would enjoy playing with each other.
