So, I'm sure many of you have seen what is basically spam about a site called Cyber Dunk? They had some really annoying posts about it would be a fun thing to do in the off season.

After seeing so many of the posts, I, being one big sucker, decided just to see what it was. So, I went to the site and joined.

Here's what I discovered:

The actual game interface is pretty mediocre. They call it a MMORPG (like World of Warcraft), but you're not moving a character around. Instead, you design a virtual basketball player, setting his height, stats, etc. After playing for a while, I realized that the game by itself was only moderately interesting. However, I joined up with a bunch of folks who have been playing and realized it's actually quite a lot of fun.

Here's why:

It provides a completely pointless but fun basketball related game to talk a bunch of smack with one another. There's a big group of people playing in the league I'm in, making it a pretty big social game. Now, we've gotten to the point where there are a lot of very competitive teams who can't wait until we play each other in the schedule.

The one downside is that in order to be competitive with everyone on the site, you have to put a lot of money into the game. However, if a bunch of folks joined just to play each other, we could have a good time without spending any money.

At any rate, if you get a chance, check out the Cyber Dunk site: http://www.cyberdunk.com/?ref=51249

Again, the game is pretty ridiculous, but it's kind of fun if you get a bunch of folks together to play. Also, it only requires a few minutes a day to play it. You don't have to invest a whole lot of time to enjoy it.

Ziggy, hope you don't mind me posting this, but I thought the folks on here would enjoy playing with each other.

I wonder if it's anything like Free Style Stree Basketball (http://freestyle.sierraonline.com/)...

On Cyber DUnk? I'll help you out. It's pretty simple. I don't know anything about the other site you mentioned.

Do you have the link to your player?

My first game on this Cyberdunk thing is in 4 hours... I have no idea what I am going to do.

I just noticed my team has 0 Cs, 1 PF, 0 SFs, yet 7 SGs... >_>

5,600,000,000 Players

Guess I'm late to the party, seeing how 85% of the world already plays this. :P

So the games don't involve me playing?O_o

WHAT KIND OF MMO IS THIS?!

I'm going back to my games that take some sort of skill to play and that an underdog if good enough could snatch a victory.

hehe... do you have them delivered by email?

By the way, I noticed a couple of other folks have either joined or were already participating. If anyone's managing a team, let me know. I'd love to join up.

I don't manage a team. You have to come up with 1000 cdp, which you can buy for $1/100 cdp or earn through various ways. If someone wanted to do that, it would be fun for all of us to join. I'm just not investing any money in this game. Some of the folks I play with have put in literally hundreds of dollars. I don't get it.

Anyway... you need to do two important things: bet and train. Training makes your player better in certain skills. However, you have to pay for the training. In order to make money in the game, you have to rely on betting, otherwise, you'll never make enough money to properly train. Betting is pretty simple. Go on to the forum under "General Discussion" and find the thread called "Jeff the Booky." Various folks find the best bets and put them on this thread. Then you go back to your account page and hit the "bet" button. You then find the bet (by nation, then by division, then by game) and bet on the appropriate team. For betting, you're generally looking for teams run by a human manager that are rated higher than the opponent. Then, you're looking for the highest odds. Typically what happens is a terrible team will be bought by a human manager, that team will get better quickly, but the odds will still be very low that they'll win (4-5/1). You can bet up to $35K, and you want to get to the point where you're betting that every day there is a game.

Keep in mind that all of the betting is done with in game money, not the cdp that you buy. So, you're not betting anything real, just the fake salary money your player gets.

You might also want to read this thread by a pretty knowledgeable player and overall good guy:

I have a PG with a rating of 20.9 and a SF with a rating of 17.6. I'm unhappy with the team my PG is on, can I just change it?
