Annnnnnnnnnnd go......... http://www.nba.com//allstar_firstreturns_071213.html

Everything looks pretty predictable here, though I'm disappointed GW is not amongst the top in the forwards. What is absolutely ludicrous though is that Yi is 5th among forwards!!!!!!!!!! These Chinese folk make okay food, but when it comes to basketball, get a damn clue, you taints!!!!!!!!! That's embarrassing, but sadly, not that surprsing :-\

Also, check out Mek. How the hell are the O'Neal boys ahead of him, not to mention Bogut, Ben Wallace, or Illgauskus?????? Dwight will win by a runaway, but still, WTF is that all about?

Yeah, it's definitely more of a popularity contest than who's gonna be Home Coming Queen. The only thing I can figure on Bogut and Illgauskus is that they might have entire countries voting for them. Like with Yao and Yi.

I think they should change the format of who plays the all star game and how they get to it. It should be all based on stats until a certain cutoff date when the 2 rosters are desided. Some people would say they will quit playing after the cutoff date! Here's the kicker, after the cutoff date the stats go on to the next seasons stats until its cutoff date so that way it would always be based on 82 games performance excluding any playoff games. Doing it this way it would always be the NBA's best on the all star teams....
What do yall think? :g:

that should be due to our losing streak 3 games before. hope we don't start another one.

Actually, I think the all-star game should be exactly what it is: an exhibition of fan favorites. It might be different if by putting all of the best players that year on the court you'd have the best basketball played all year. But that's not the case.

Instead, it's great to have T-Mac throwing alley-oops to himself and Yao Ming and Shaq facing off. All of the kids get to see the guys on their posters and jerseys play each other.

I used to get somewhat offended when I thought about the injustice of the some of the selections. But, it's not like the game says anything about the players. It's a mid-season game meant to showcase the biggest names in the game. Granted, it's pretty sad when guys who've been hurt all year get elected. However, I've come to terms with the fact that it's probably the best way to do it for the game that it is.

How does Hedo turkoglu have more votes than Crash?

How does Zaza Pachulia have votes, at all?

How does Luis Scola have votes?

Jerry Stackhouse has votes? I thought he wasn't popular?

Here's my absolute favorite: How the F*ck does Erick Dampier nearly 102,000 votes - more than Camby or many others???

Crazy.

Guys, let's be real, nobody on our team this season so far is deserving of an All-Star spot. Not by a long shot.

Bumpus, I generally agree with your thoughts. But we all know all-star game features not best players, the top voted ones. So all these results are extremely subjective from people to people. We can find many other players if we look deeply who has ridiculous amounts of votes.

However, I don't agree with you about Hedo. He's playing stellar this season. Not only for him being Turkish, but I'm following him for maybe 10 years and first time he's playing so consistent. Dwight Howard's monster performance helps him, true, but that shouldn't be ignored that he's helping Howard a lot than DW does him. He's such a great passer, always gives the ball to Howard at right place. He's the real PG of Magic. And he's playing way better than Rashard Lewis, who's being paid triple times of Hedo.

Hedo's stats:
2007-08 Statistics
PPG 18,5
RPG 6,3
APG 4,2
SPG 1,0
BPG 0,2
FG% 0,427
FT% 0,786
3P% 0,362
MPG 37,1

GW's stats:
PPG 18,2
RPG 5,0
APG 2,2
SPG 2,0
BPG 0,9
FG% 0,448
FT% 0,685
3P% 0,298
MPG 36,1

In all honesty, Hedo's stats impress me than GW's, although GW's much more versatile. But Hedo always looks like a "basketball player" more than GW.

On a sidenote, they had played together in Sacramento between 2001-03. They were basically fighting for the same spot, but Adelman was generally preferring Hedo. That led GW being benched for years, and eventually not being protected at Bobcats expansion draft. :)

I agree about Hedo. He's virtually always been in the shadows, yet can perform at a high level. Now that Orlando has some semblance of a good team, Hedo is finally showing what he can do.

The other thing about people getting votes is that a lot of team fans will vote for their players. The Mavs are one of the most popular teams in the league. It shouldn't be surprising that Dampier gets so many votes.

Again, I don't remotely connect all-star voting with performance or the quality of a player. Thus, I don't really care about who gets voted in. If a billion Chinese fans want to see Yi and Yao face off, then so be it.
