Bonnel is reporting that Boykins will sign with the Cats and will be announced late today or tomorrow. Hopefully Lil' Earl will push McInnis off the court!

If he is any where near as good as Muggsy was then heck yeah. A while back Ham Bisquit said there would be no more trades so here is what Higgens says:

The Bobcats are working to stay in an Eastern Conference playoff race. General manager Rod Higgins told the Observer Wednesday night he was still actively searching to improve the roster and said it was possible the Bobcats could make another transaction before the Feb. 21 trade deadline.

Sounds to me not every one is on the same page...... :g:

hahah! Damn I am excited... he better be the starting point. Can you imagine if Vincent still starts McInnis. This is great, the lineup improves so much. Boykins is a hard worker, super fast, and very skilled. I have seen him light it up and its unbelievable. Cannot wait, he could help push us further

I may have to actually watch the next televised game and violate my self imposed ban on watching until we were in the 8th playoff spot. I think this will improve us greatly.

Where was Boykins at the beginning of the season? why didnt we try to get him then? unless he was on a team at that time. Things could be looking up guys and Higgins talking about a possible trade before the deadline, hummmmm makes me wonder are we really trying to get there this year? I hope so, lets get out of the lottery leagues....

I meant it in a sense of the fine line Sam and management were walking between "trades" and "roster moves".

Ham Biscuit gets what he gets. Doesn't mean he'll play 'em.

He declined a player option worth around 3 million from Milwaukee thinking he'd get a fatter contract this offseason.  He didn't.  From the last rumor he was wanting the full MLE (approx. 6 million) so that was probably causing us to hesitate.  Prorated now for less than half a season that'd make his salary around 3...which allows Boykins to not lose money.

Hopefully he'll help.  I'd have preferred a defensive minded guard, but more points never hurt.  Boykins automatically becomes our best FT shooter.

And he already has a nickname...from Wikipedia:

"His ability to score off the bench along with his low-to-the-floor stature gained him the moniker "the Double-Digit Midget"."

Muttley

This is cool, and something I am definitely for. I am curious to see what exactly the contract will be, but probably more curious to see how he is used. I could understand Vincent not starting Earl for the Warriors game, but working him heavily and seeing how it goes (the way he did with Nazr). Let's see if he's still as quick as he was last time he touched a court. I'd imagine so, but you never know.
I'd still prefer him as a back-up to Felton, but if we gotta go small from Saturday on, then you can't get much smaller than Earl! Plus he can shoot.
Kind of a shame. Lately Jeff's been trying REALLY REALLY hard. Too bad he's just not as good as either Ray or Earl.
Now, let's see what 5-5 can do for us!

Addendum: Come to think of it, since Boyk is such a fan of shooting and hitting shots, this means we can move Ray back to PG and play him as SG in the super-small starting line.

Boykins is now my new favorite player, just like muggsy was back when he played. OK, so we now have 3 options. A regular lineup which includes starting both Okafor and Nazr, the small lineup which starts Ray and Jeff, and now a super-small lineup which includes Ray and Earl. Interesting concept. I an anxious to see in what situations we actually use the super small lineup.

We can still play big with Boykins on the floor but that would mean Felts would be sitting play JRich at the 2 Crash at the 3 Mek at 4 and Nazr at 5. Then you have the option to have Felts start and Boykins back up. I wonder what kind of trade they are considering before the deadline according to Higgins..... :g:

If we are talking trades, we have a back up point guard we can throw in the deal in McGinnis!! I know Boston was looking for one, and so is Phoenix. Maybe Phoenix will give us the Atlanta 1st for McGinnis!!! Genius!!! Or, we give them Othello Harrington and Jeff for the Atlanta 1st and Banks (back up Center)

This was a great move....Boykins, in my mind, is better than Felton. I think that we now have good veteran point guard that can really play well alongside J-Rich and Gerald.
This move may be the thing that helps us get into the playoffs.

For some reason though, I don't see Boykins starting right away, I think he'll take a while, and may even start off behind McInnis sadly...IMO I think DA should start if we are going to do a combo pg...but Vincent likes McInnis for some reason...hopefully Boykins does very well for us, though he's a scoring point....

BIGCatBobcat

Boykins will go off every once in a while, just like pile up some points and hit big shots. Maybe I'm wrong because all I've seen of him is from highlights on sportscenter. "Look at the little guy hitting shots." I can just hear Scott VanPelt now. I don't know a whole lot about him but I like him. Mugsy and Earl in the same building night after night, I can't wait.

never doubt the genius of Sam Vincent... he might start Earl at Power forward against the warriors.

As for the acquistion of Boykins.... He gets Jeff out of there... but i think this is just gonna give him free reign to start Raymond at SG. which in my opinion is a waste of space.
Raymond Felton is a freakin point guard.

Start Ray, Jason, Crash, Okafor, Nazr... or im gonna freakin explode. in fact ... ill start a thread about it.

Watched him for a few years in Denver

He is fun to watch. He will become a fan favorite in no time in Charlotte. All your girlfriends and wives want to come see the short guy, and all the women luv the short men try harder complex

Good stuff-
he goes at a fast pace, plays hard every minute.
He can get his shot anytime he wants to, which is amazing for a guy that small. helps in Buzzer spots.
he is a pest defensively

Bad
He can be a liability at times on the defensive end, guards like Tony Parker, Billups and a few others will post him up, and take advantage of his size down low.
He is a shoot first point guard, you will probably be a little pissed at him by the end of the season "Okafor wide open underneath and Earl jacks up a jumper"
He can't really even get a hand in the face on jumpers on the defensive end because of his size
If you guys make the playoffs, he will be exploited vs good teams

I am glad he is back in the league, and not as a Nugget

Shame, shame, ohara!! You have to be a man of principle, and stand by your statement!!

Seriously, I hope y'all are right about this guy. I was hoping we would go the NBDL route, but it does give us another option at PG besides Jeff which is always good. Hopefully he can come over and mesh with the rest of the guys like JRich and Nazr have been able to do; this is the only real problem I see with the move: chemistry.

In the larger picture, I love what it says about the triumvrate (MJ, Bernie, Higgins) and Bob! Spending money, showing they are committed to improve the team on a personnel basis, at least, all while not doing anything drastic in the process! Kudos to managment!!!

Whoa... there are no words for the idiocy that would be playing McInthegametooanyminutes over Raymond.

Consider the Muttley Scale of Idea Goodness, accompanied by examples of each level:
(assume a small line-up is absolutely necessary)

Good: Not starting with the small line-up!
Acceptable: Playing Earl and Ray together, with Nazr coming in off the bench after a short while.
Bad: Playing Ray with McInnis for a good portion of the game.
You're an F'n moron Sam: Playing Earl with McInnis for a good portion of the game.

See, right now we're hovering right around level "Bad" on the idea scale. Ideally, if you'll enjoy or pardon the pun, we'd like to raise that level to at least "Acceptable." According to the MSIG, what we'd like to avoid is achieving level "You're an F'n moron Sam." This might be difficult to do, since Sam, in fact, may be an F'n Moron.

I could only wish it would be with Memphis.

Give me Javaris Crittenton, Mike Miller and 2008 Lakers 1st round pick for J-rich, and however many expiring contracts they want (Othella, DA, Jeff, Boynkins). With the exception of Okafor(although I'd listen), Crash and Dudley I'd part with any other players (non-injured of course). Then there's always our picks.

PG: Raymond/Crittenton (let em battle it out..)
SG: Mike Miller/Matt
SF: Dudley/Crash
PF: Crash/whoever else
C: Okafor/Nazr

I'd even offer to pay some of J-rich's salary off, or even let them dump Darko's salary on us in return to even it out. We offer salary cap relief from expiring contracts, and get rid of two players that don't fit in Memphis' offense. J-rich would work well in Iavaroni's offense.

Just a thought....but I've been high on Crittenton, think Miller would fit in the SG role better than J-rich (cuz he's awesome at SF but just good at SG). They would probably put him at the 2/3 depending on what Rudy Gay was playing....They'd probably put Navarro at the 2 in a small ball lineup besides Conley.

Who knows. Maybe Crittenton would be able to push Felton, or since he's 6'5 replace him at the 2 role and dump Jeff off a cliff. Two capable point guards on the floor and one has adequate size and talent to sometimes be a shooting guard? No Jeff? Sweet...

What ideas do you guys have?

that wont happen. Memphis is trying to obliterate all financial commitments for the long term that is expensive and just have a solid core of young players so the team can be sold this summer. Just a small thing of note while surfing the net. On 82games.com it notes we have the worst team bench in terms of scoring. The bench averages a measley 23 pts/game. Just a reason why we picked up Boykins.
