View Full Version : Do you like the new look of the Bobcats website

So, http://www.nba.com/bobcats/index_main.html aka Bobcats.com has been changed. The new look is interesting, though I'm not sure if it's done yet. Some of the fonts don't quite match and can be hard to read. It kinda looks like myspace to me. I think i like where they were going with some of the stuff, but I'm not sold on the whole lay-out yet.
What do you guys think? We've been waiting for this one for a while...

Lets hope they arent finished yet, that looks kinda plain but I do like the layout. Maybe more graphics would help..... :g:

Wow that looks horrible although I did enjoy the video special on the cheerleader :D

I think it is a huge improvement over last version. I doubt they are done with the update though

well you guys are pretty pessimistic.
I think it is great, much more clean and attractive. I dig, I dig a lot. Much better, more user friendly. Scores in the bottom corner, cool video, easy to navigate. Hurray!

I like the layout but "BAM" where did the orange go? lol No graphics kinda plain....

Im telling you, mark my words, the orange is becoming a thing of the past. Its ugly and less wearable then the blue and white. A little orange accent is good here and there, but just like the court, everything bobcats is starting to shift to the blue.
I am still staying strong on my predictions.
Whenever they update uniforms:
White home
Blue away
Grey with orange accents alternate

At least put some blue on the page then, its kinda plain as it is...... ::)

I like that, that would be cool with me..... :g:
i love the new site. Web design should be clean and simple. As far away from myspace as possible. the key is if they continue to update with new multimedia and the like.
I think at least design-wise, it's the best site of any nba team that I've seen. They all like to throw about 24 or 25 different graphics at you.
Oh, and about the orange. I wonder if this is just a management decision or if it was based on some sort of consumer research. I, for one, like orange as an accent and not as a main color (see tennessee, clemson for examples)

Grey with orange accents alternate
Yes!
In regards to the site, when I first saw it I think they had JUST launched and for some reason the background color was black! This did not go well with the dark-colored text (that was what I thought looked "myspace-ish"). I like the white background with grey text that I see this morning. A huge improvement not only on the version I saw last night, but over the old one by a lot. It's easy to read and find things.
I approve.

Very plain and not much color. This one is better than the old one BUT alot of the stuff is the same.....like the player profiles. Compare our players page with Portlands!

Yeah the cheerleader stuff is cool. We need more of that considering how the team is doing as of late. :-\

Much improved. Simple, clean and all on one page. Overall I like it.
I'd have liked something a little better for the subcategories though. Especially the rosters section. I'd love for the Blazers roster implementation to be brought over here.
that's horrible, it doesn't look anywhere close to fnished.

I'm Mustachio and I endorse this new website.
If you guys haven't been checking it regularly, they have actually begun to have some pretty decent multimedia content every other day it seems. I think in the one week that it's been new, we've had more content than we've had all year.
There's been interviews with a lady cat, Crash, Boykins. The player is pretty high quality for the short load time.
Bravo.

I saw Michael responding to the idiotic comments about the new website on that "other" board which reminded me of a question I had earlier...where's the monthly photos?
Also I'd like for management to put more into the Lady Cats section (big surprise there!). Per Fats' suggestion I moseyed on over to the Sonics' site...think "bikini" was the motivator...and I really liked how they had that page with all the girls' silhouette where you clicked on it and it took you to her personal page.

sorry but this is a website for a professional basketball team, not some quasi-porn site, there are plenty of other places for that on the net. More hoops content, who cares about the ladycats... honestly, theyre not that hot
With everyone mentioning the ladycats I have to put in my two cents that it is nice getting updates on them. it's not as good as the gerald updates, the sean may video, etc.
the ladycat video right now, though, her name is jesi. I'd have to say one of our better ladycats.

Ever hear of the term "marketable commodity"?
In case you haven't noticed, the Bobcats need fans. I'd hazard a guess that males make up a VAST majority of NBA fans, and 99% of them are motivated by skin of the female variety.
But sure...displaying the Ladycats with kids in a wholesome setting is sure to beat the competition on those "quasi-porn sites".
You betcha.

Every team has cheer leaders dont matter what sport it is except baseball and hockey and maybe a few others. Cheer leaders are part of the team too, they should be included on the teams web site. They arent porn stars nor do they need to be on a porn site. You see more than that at the beach or a swimming pool. So be real dude...... :g:

I knew that comment would not be positively received, but seriously, I dont go to bobcats games to look at girls, I dont go to bobcats.com to look at girls either.
They are "entertainment" sure, but that doesnt mean we need to have indepth insight into them. In reality they are just sex symbols at the game.
Lets look at there role, basically, their job is to go on the floor wearing next to nothing, dance around, then come back, and get the crowd fired up for tee shirts.
So the whole reason they are there is to look good. Sorry but basketball is more relevant to me on a professional basketball team.
Fun fact, Red Auerbach said he would die before the celtics had a dance team, the year he died they got a team.
But whatever man, theyre jobs in relation to the team is not worth my attention or the every other website section, its just my opinion.
Id rather the bobcats build excitement for the team rather then just the dance team... but hey right now we are having a ton of problems with the team soooo...

HAhAAha... I just watched the video on bobcats.com to "get to know" jesi... all it is is clips of her. Really got to know her! Well whatever I guess that serves my point, they are out there as sex symbols, and sex sells.
I wonder if our dance team was just absolutely smokin if the bobcats would sell more tickets?

My absolute favorite write-up on one of the Sonics dancers is the one for Kelsey under Sonics Fans Would Be Surprised To Know, she wrote "I can bark like a beagle" LOL wow

I chose to look at it after reading this, just to make sure what I was saying was right and it wasnt actually interesting/useful for the team. Again, it is not what draws me to bobcats.com, but maybe if it helps get other traffic fine.
whatever, my points been made.

MattD: In the "for what's it worth" file, I understand where you're coming from and agree with you. I could care less about the Lady Cats dance things. Give me old fashioned cheer leaders! But its just part of the whole commercialization of commercial pro sports, so its understandable and finally okay with me.

How about the other way around instead? The way I picture it, there's say 25 "doors" with Ham Biscuits on 'em with pictures of Ladycats behind them. And then, on the last day, a day called Hambiscuitmas, a jolly fat guy comes down the chimney... and fires Sam Vincent.

I think, like most things in life, we can find a balance. In the case of our website, the numbers do not lie. The VAST majority of the hits to our website (and this is true across the league) end up at the dance team page, and traffic is important so that part of the site is important. But, we also want Bobcats.com to provide the most comprehensive coverage of the team, and much of the re-design of the site was done with that in mind. The Observer and SportsCenter can tell you that Sean May injured his knee and will miss the entire season after having it surgically repaired, but we want Bobcats.com to tell you how he's feeling now, how far along he is in his recovery, when he starts running again, show you video of his rehab, etc.
Those kinds of features are important to us, and so is the Lady Cat of the Week because people look for it. Did I learn alot about Jessi in her 60-second clip? No. Can we do better there? Absolutely - and we will. Is it better than before, and are we headed in the right direction with it? Based on what I've read from this 4-page thread, it sounds like it. Are we done? Hell, no.
Keep the suggestions coming. It's the only way we're going to get better.
Is there no way to incorporate the highlights right into a video in the main page of the site? It is an absolute pain trying to deal with the NBA.com highlights, you have to sit through 10 minutes of commercial before any highlights.

Amen!!!!!!!!
To echo the others about the highlights being incorporated into the main page (or part of the bobcats website and not a nba.com pop-up) . . . I'd really, really appreciate it. NBA.com broadband stuff is hard-core windows media, so it makes it difficult for mac users to enjoy (myself being one). It is a real pain.
