I hope it's worked out by next season (I imagine nothing would change with this season's schedule?), because even the MYTV12 games that are aired aren't always shown on the Raleigh MYRDC station - read: the suns game.
Article sounds promising.

I had hoped someone would jump on before the tournaments this season. I'd bet it's done in the next 2-3 weeks so they can change it over before big national audiences watch games held in something other than Charlotte Bobcats Arena, what a terrible name, bold of them too considering it was public money that built it.

This is a very promising step to increase the popularity of the Bobcats. Hopefully it goes thru as soon as possible.

Yeah, I'm just not sure I believe it, but who knows?
Bigcat, that's a good point about getting it named before the College tourneys start happening. TWC will definitely want to use that coverage. Maybe that will give the Bobcats a leg up in negotiations, leading to a deal that gets the team much more coverage. I gotta ask you though, what's wrong with the name "Charlotte Bobcats Arena," or than the fact that it brings in no extra money?

I agree, Muttley. I like the fact that the arena has gone as long as it has without having some corporation's name plastered on everything. I loved it when the Bulls played in Chicago Stadium, not in in a building name after a plane franchise; also, the Boston Garden; Reunion Arena; The Meadowlands; etc. These old arena names held so much more character and regional appreciation than simply some big business's name. I'll miss the days when the arena was called "Charlotte Bobcats Arena," though I can appreciate the revenue that will increase for the team, and, most importantly, the television rights that will result from the change.
Still, give me arena names like The Spectrum any day over Wachovia Center (or whatever it is they're calling the Sixers arena these days).....

No doubt about it. It's just like how with golf and tennis tourneys "The Masters" and "Wimbledon" sound way cooler, classier, and other such adjectives than do the names "Buick Invitational" and "Pacific Life Open."
With building names, specifically, the rights can change hands fairly easily and creates a less concrete feel - pun definitely intended - to the place. Hell, even companies change their names. This week it's Time Warner, next week it's Time Warner AOL. Nascar night's good and fine, but must the arena itself be named in a way so similar to the way that their cars are decorated?
That said, I'm definitely going to miss Bobcats Arena, but fixing the TV situation is so important right now, and the revenue that the deal brings in is likely imperative to the franchise's future success.
We can still call it "The Cable Box," which I think is a better name than Time Warner Arena or TWC arena or whatever it's going to be.
This is exactly what's needed to build a fan base. I believe FSN is also on Direct TV which hits another 10% of the market or so that won't be covered by TWC.

If this Time Warner deal gets me more games in glorious high definition, it will make me a very happy man.

Thats true; I went over a friends house and watched a game on 52" flat screen HDTV and man the fonts are horrible and blurry. Go figure....... :g:

My only point there was that it's the city's arena not the Bobcat's. Fine name, because Charlotte Arena or Charlotte Uptown Arena or something along those lines sounds cheesy.
It's a different world from the old days of The Garden, The Spectrum, Meadowlands, etc. I wish it wasn't, I grew up in the Philadelphia area and it was cool driving past Veterans Stadium or The Spectrum and that's all you called it, not First Union, ugh, Wachovia ugh whatever it is now Spectrum.
I am trying to figure out the tv deal. They started out with C-Set, probably had to give consessions to TWC or something to get it on there, then that failed so TWC says we're putting the games on our crap news 14, the Bobcats realize this is not helping them so they let TWC put their name on the arena in exchange(plus whatever they are paying) for getting the game out to a wider audience? Is that the correct progresion?

Why not something like "Queen City Arena"? Just not something goofy like "Tator Tot Arena"...:g:
Time Warner Cable Arena
it sounds like gold just as long as the games go over to FSN South.

I think I see your point about the taxpayers buying the arena, and not Johnson. Good point.
As far as the TV deal. From what I understand, the Bobcats organization is committed to getting "their brand" out there, which they should be. They messed up with the cset thing, and they know it. From what I've been hearing from Michael Thompson, they'll do what it takes within reason to be able to broadcast the team wider. I have no knowledge, but perhaps they could have gotten a better deal, but this WITHOUT A DOUBT makes the most sense for the franchise. In short, I think you've got the right progression.
Now, they might've been able to set up a better deal from the get-go, but Johnson wanted his own channel, I guess.
