What purpose do arm sleeves serve?

Are they to cover up some offensive tattoos, does it help elbow alignment, or is it just a fashion statement?
Somebody let me know.
Also, if you have any other dumb questions feel free to toss them into this thread.

Apparently, they improve circulation and keep the joint warm. Plus they add protection.
Or, at least, that's what some of the product tag lines said.

Maybe if everybody worm them on both arms at all times then maybe GW wouldnt be injured right now...... :g:

I always thought they were some sort of anti-friction sleeve to curb woodburn.

Hmm, improves circulation. That makes sense now, way back about 10 or 12 years ago when Hakeem Olajuwon had some issue with one of his legs, I remember that he wore a sleeve on one leg to improve circulation.
He kind of looked like someone trying to join the cast of Fame when he had it on.
