Word is we are meeting with Landon Johnson. He is a LB from Cinci. He was their leading tackler last season. They want him back bad. If we get him, he will take Diggs starting job, and then we have Diggs as a good back up. Beason in the middle, Davis on strong side and Johnson on weak side will give us a very good LB group. He is only 26, so youth will be served as well and we dont have to spend a Draft pick on position.

Sounds good to me. Diggs would be a good back-up.

Sign him. A Davis/Beason/Johnson LB corps would be sick.

WE GOT HIM!! Great signing! That is awesome. You are right Wallace, this gives us a starting linebacking corp that is 2nd to none for starters. Now, we dont have to worry with spending any of our top 3 round picks on a LB unless one just falls to us. We can address our other needs. Great job!

Added a RB yesterday: LaBrandon Toefield. He is 5-11 and 232lbs, but never got to play since they have Talor and Jones-Drew. Just a 1 yr Contract. Observor thinks we still grab a RB in the Draft. If we do, I'm not sure why we picked the guy up, but it would be nice to see him be a surprise.

Will be nice having another bruiser short yardage back again in Carolina with LaBrandon Toefield on board.
Toefield was buried in Jacksonville behind Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew, but the Jaguars held onto him for a reason. He had 163 attempts for 572 yards and seven touchdowns in five seasons there.

At 5-foot-11, 232 pounds, he's a more physical presence than the Panthers had previously.
sounds good to me

Yeah, I like that. 3.5 yd average on inconsistent carries sounds like a solid complement to Williams.

Excellent signing today with DJ Hackett formerly of the Seahawks. 2 yrs at less than $2 mil per yr! He's gonna be a very good #2 to play with Smith and also Moose. Takes all the pressure off us of having to get another WR in the Draft. Also, it gives Jarrett 1 yr to get his crap together or get cut.

Aw... When I heard the news I was gonna start a new thread with the title, "Panthers Prove They Can Hackett in Free Agency," but I guess adding it to this thread works too.

Great signing, especially at that price. I've been pretty happy with the moves we've made this offseason so far.

Agreed Muttley! It gives us the freedom to really address our major needs in the Draft. I like all the signings so far. The one that I know little aabout is Toefield. He never really got to play in Jacksonville, so hopefully he ends us being a great back who just did not get the time until we took him. Hey, it's happened before in the NFL!

Seriously. I mean, Toefield was playing behind Jones-Drew and Taylor. That's some serious competition. As I said after the signing, 3.5ypc on inconsistent carries seems pretty decent to me.

We signed a Safety, Terrance Holt. He was a starter last yr with Arizona, but they cut him. He'll be a starter for us if we dont Draft on this yr. I was kind of hoping for Marcus Griffin of Texas with our 2nd 3rd round selection, but we may not do that now that we signed Holt.

Not twins, but yes it's his younger brother. I'm happy to hear that he's on the team!

Prior to coming to Charlotte he played in (I believe) Detroit, before Arizona. Not sure the reason why he got cut, but I fully expect him to perform for Carolina. After all, he's from Greensboro.

Holt got released in Arizona because he didnt look good in their system, they needed the cap room and it allows them to move former first round pick Antrel Rolle to FS.

I have to say, I am pretty pleased with our off season acquisitions. We have not spent too much, but we may have surely solidified several areas of weakness. Now, if we can just get a good draft, I'll be stoked for this coming season!

Well, we are starting to stockpile OG's. We have signed 2 in the last few days. We signed Toniu Fonati and Milford Brown. Both have played in the NFL as starters, and we not resigned this yr. But, they give us depth.

I think Fonoti is a real roll of the dice, if he's dedicated to keeping his weight under control, then he could turn out to be a plus to the team. If he doesn't, I'm guessing we'll have a gauge of it by training camp and then release him if his condition is not to our liking.

Great looking banner jpf! To piggyback on others posts I really like what the panthers are doing this offseason. There have been no ridiculous Sean Gilbert signings, just solid affordable players. I especially like the Johnson and Hackett signings. This offseason reminds me a bit of 2003 whe we signed Davis and an obscure Cajun, Jake Delhomme. Hopefully the results are the same as that offseason.
