He's an idiot.

The Hornets left -- we get it already! But the Bobcats are here NOW. There are a lot of teams that would love to have an NBA team, look at what OKC is doing to try and get the Sonics to come there. Professional sports teams are one element that adds culture and marketability to a city. It helps put us on the map. Plus it gives people something fun to do.

This team does have some great personalities in Crash and J-Rich. I do agree that the team should market His Airness more.

Charlotte is filled with a bunch a fair-weather douches that aren't interested until the team starts winning. Watch what happens when we make the playoffs next year. You won't be able to find a seat. Then they'll be writing about the genius of the front office. Fucktards. Grrr...

Dunk:

I gotta believe you feel better now! A rant like that can really be soul cleansing.

By the way, I tend to agree with you. I hope Sorenson attends a game and someone from the Board recognizes him and then starts telling everyone within earshot who he is, what he wrote, and that real fans would prefer that he just stay away and not pollute the air in the arena with his stench.

He's Rush Limbaugh of the sports world...only says crap to get a reaction.

The only thing his section of the paper is good for is wiping my behind.

Sorenson makes a good point about MJ's invisibility; but how he gets to it is pretty disrespectful of the fans who do care about this team.

This guy needs to either be fired; or at least, kept away from writing about the NBA...really.

It's just a shame that we have to read this crap from a "professional" sports journalist; who seems to have a private need to tell us Bobcats fans how little he thinks of us.

Honestly...there is SO FREAKING MUCH that can be written about this team, both positive and (constructively) negative; yet we continue to get insulting shit like this.

sigh

I grew up reading Gammons and Will McDonough. I guess I never realized how good I had it. I feel bad for the natives. Most papers aren't like this when it comes to sports reporting. The Disturber sucks balls in general. They just write stuff to get a reaction it seems.

Get Mr. Thompson on the case! Can't let them take shots at you like that! The better approach might be to have them in for lunch with MJ and have him dazzle with his celebrity. They're probably all star fuckers anyway, sounds like. "Pay attention to me! Pay attention to me! I write a column for a real newspaper and everything!" Blech.

Tom Sorenson along with the rest of the media in this city have a lot to do with why people "don't care" about the Bobcats with their constant negativity toward the team. You do not see Bobcats stuff prominent in the Observer, hardly get any game highlights on the evening news, and the local sports radio station does nothing but trash the team as well. If you want people to care then actually cover this team without a negative bias!

This city sometimes frustrates me with the racial stuff you see on the Observer Bobcats' message board and these tree-hugging, anti-gov't people talking about the arena deal. People DO care about the Bobcats...you can come here to Bobcats Planet to see just that.

We all know that this isn't the first time some jackass has written an article like this, and it certainly won't be the last time it's done, either.

It amazes me how much time and effort people like Mr. Sorensen put into something they claim to not care about.

If you really didn't care, you'd just leave it be.

When the Bobcats finally make the playoffs, all of those Jokers at the Observer will be singing a different tune.

Remember back in the day, These were the same clowns that would write a full page article anytime Dave Hoppen managed to take an unassisted dump.

I think alot of it is that Sorenson is just a douchebag who had nothing better to write about. He is like the knat that keeps flying around your ear, and you just can't quite swat it away. I can't stand most of his articles, like his (failing) attempt to be funny when he interviewed Steve Smith. Smitty said Sorenson wouldn't understand what its like to be an athlete and then Sorenson writes an article ripping smith and talking about his high school accomplishments.

I think around Charlotte it is cool to not like the bobcats, kind of like high school. Yes we used taxpayer money for the arena, and yes Shinn sucked balls, all true. I remember when we were excited back in 1988, and couldn't beleive that Charlotte was getting a pro sport. The Hornets were our first love, and were like the first girl we took to the dance. The breakup was nasty, left a bad taste, and now we have graduated to another girl (Panthers) who is hotter, and we are too cool to look back. It seems many have the attitude that the NBA is now "so yesterday" and Charlotte is too world class to get excited over baskeball anymore. I think articles like Sorensons just perpetuate the feeling that nobody cares about the bobcats, but I feel like if people would just go to a game they would see that the arena is VASTLY superior to the old "Hive". I for one see that we are lucky to have been given another chance with the NBA. Charlotte is one of only 30 cities to have a team, so we need to support it.

Seriously.

How the hell do he and Bonnell have a job? I read this today and it accomplished it's goal; it got a Bobcats fan so mad he couldn't see straight.

Bobcats fans are likely the only ones opening to that section of the paper or the webpage. Why the hell are we subject to this crap? Give us a writer who likes the team, or at least, doesn't take every chance he has to rip them.

In Sorenson's mind I'm one of the Non-charlotte "small-town" hicks that is awestruck with the Bobcats because I don't know any better.

Wrong. I like Basketball. Pro. College. Even high school sometimes. I happen to like the NBA and I'm excited and supportive now that it is within driving distance.

Bottom line: if the Bobcats were to leave Charlotte, what would it do for the city? What would it accomplish? What would all of naysayers gain?
Flipside: If the bobcats were to succeed, what would it do for the city? Would it be bad for the city of Charlotte to support it's pro sports teams? What detriment could their possibly be.

We've got a great arena, great staff there, and a group of likeable guys who play good basketball when they feel like it and the quality of players will continue to get better and better (and worse some years) as the franchise gets older. What's not to like? Or more importantly, what is there to hate?

Rant over.

I was really steamed when I saw it. Oh, and I didn't see Sorenson at the game tonight. Fancy that. Undoubtedly he was home watching ESPN Classics. He probably hates his wife and kids too. I left this post in the comments to the article in the Observer:

Tom, you've been saying the same thing for the last several years. That fact, of course, calls the basis for your current article into question. Its damn outrageous for you to compare Gerald Wallace to Dan Morgan. You know quite well that the implication with Morgan was that he was just picking up a paycheck. Wallace gives it all he's got every night he plays. I sit behind Bonnell every home game and don't ever recall seeing you there. You suck and your half-baked analysis sucks just as bad. If you don't like the Bobcats, that is fine. The Observer should find someone else that does. I could care less whether I see Jordan at a game. I don't go to games to see celebrities, I go to see our team play. Obviously, you'd prefer to be at Staples - but not to see the Clips! This is Charlotte, not LA. and if you were being fair, you'd have noted that we've been creeping up in attendance, and with just another thousand or so in the seats, we'll be right there with a number of other "successful" NBA teams. Get a life. Go find something else to write about.

Will be sending an email to the editor tomorrow about this blatant anti-Bobcats propaganda. It wouldn't be taking the high road, but I'd love it if the Bobcats organization, which this jackleg thinks could give a rat's ass about attendance despite all the marketing and deals and price cuts at the box office, etc., would revoke his media credentials, and close the door on his ass from here on. Who the hell cares if MJ shows up at a fucking game and gladhands with the masses like some politician on the campaign trail?!?!?! I'd much rather have the curvaceous Lady Cats giving me a program and a little small talk, and a nice eyefull :o as opposed to seeing MJ out there. I've yet to see the rationale in how that would win fans over; it makes no sense whatsoever. To follow that logic, he'd have to show up each and every game, walk the concourse talking to fans (which, given his celebrity is ridiculously infeasible), because if he only did it once or twice, the attendence and interest would once again drop off because MJ isn't there. That is NOT the solution!! The solution is what we are witnessing these past 5 games, and especially the month of March! A good-character, hard working TEAM winning games!

Beagle:

While you're at it, throw in a word about Bonnell trying to piss on the parade. We have a win streak going, we are playing team ball, and Ray is finally proving to me and everyone that doubted him that he can handle being the PG. Bonnell thinks we are not on the path to the right solution for making up ground? He must be playig twiddely winks with Sorenson and missing the games!

It's a sad state of affairs when the teams main (and only) media outlet disrespects it's team in such a way.

At least Bonnell trys to hide it! This piece is just rude.

The article was stupid as sh*t and there is no doubt but I do wonder if the state of NC was more behind the Bobcats, would it have made the players play harder game in and game out regardless of the lousy coach? Would we be at least two or three games closer to the eighth seed in the east? Just speculation and we could never really know but I am a performer and I know how much better I feel when I have a large enthusiastic audience.

Winning with a lousy coach is hard to do but I feel a city and state that get behind a team can push it to extra wins in spite of lousy coaching. I am not knocking you people because it is obvious you are die hard fans and support this team even when it seems management is running the team terribly and the team from what I am seeing could be marketed better. I just feel bad for the players and those of you who are proud North Carolinians and support your local teams. I am a fan and for that I would like to see the Bobcats make a major push for a playoff spot this year but I also know something needs to happen to motivate the city and state. Next year IF everybody can stay relatively healthy and they fire this lousy coach while hiring an experienced coach with a record of winning this team could be a top 5 seed in the East imo. Wonder what Rick Adelman would have done for our team?

Was I pissed when I read it? Yes.
Was I shocked by the timing of it? Undoubetdly.
Was I surprised by the tone of it? Not in the least.

But here's the bottom line. We just set a franchise record for consecutive wins, beating 4 playoff teams along the way, without our best all-around player, and NOTHING that anyone writes can dispute that. JRich just beat out LeBron James for Eastern Conference Player of the Week, and NOTHING that anyone writes can dispute that. Jared Dudley is averaging just shy of a double-double during this stretch, and NOTHING that anyone writed can dispute that. Raymond and Matt are playing their best ball of the season, and NOTHING that anyone writes can dispute that.

As has been said many times on this board - get on the bandwagon now, because there won't be much room left if we keep playing like this. And by then, we won't need words in a newspaper to shed light on the truth. The facts will speak for themselves.

Michael, it's a damn good thing you're working for the bobcats. We'd hate to have someone with your attitude towards the team working for someone else. You're so right about this.

It still sucks that the hometown paper doesn't show the team or us fans any respect.

You go Michael!!!

A lot of us felt last year that the organization had basically cut out the Observer staff (just by "feel", nothing to back it up) from any relevant info...and I honestly have to say I really liked the idea.

One of my reasons for wanting you guys to put up the news on the official site was to eliminate them from Bobcats' fans daily reading. If I never have to access that site again it'd still be too soon.

BTW...one of the best "gotcha" moments ever was when on draft night last year Bonnell put in his blog that "trading our pick for JSwish was NOT happening".

Tom Sorenson is a joke. He really really is, he thinks he's funny, but he's not. He thinks he's relevant in the Charlotte sports community, he's not. It is cool with a certain aspect of the community to bash the Bobcats and not care. I guess with the Panthers doing well now people can just make fun of the "lowly" Bobcats. If he doesn't care about a 5 game win streak, screw him. I am just pretty damn disappointed in the local paper for running it. I don't get the paper because I don't have a birdcage to put it in, so I'm not sure if this was above the fold or more prominent than the good news that the Bobcats are actually winning games with team ball, without their best player. I know that the local paper's sports department is laughable. I know papers don't make money like they used to and the sports department is the first to get cut. Isn't this article really shooting himself and the sports department in the foot? Don't you want more good local stories? Wouldn't it be better for business if the team goes on a tear and becomes a big story? Is cynicism killing everything now? Why is it better to make fun of something and to tear something down rather than say "Finally! The Bobcats are making waves in this town, they are winning games and this is how..." I just don't get it. Sorenson should be put on the road to follow the Knights on a long road trip this season and basically be relegated to relating how minor leaguers turn a double play or something. Hell fire him, he hasn't written anything that gets anyone excited, entertained or makes me want to buy a paper, well, ever.
