Charlotte Bobcats forward Jason Richardson was selected by the NBA as Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 9. The honor is Richardson’s second, joining his previous award for the week ending March 20, 2005, when he was named Western Conference Player of the Week as a member of the Golden State Warriors. Houston Rockets forward Tracy McGrady won the Western Conference award for the week.

Richardson averaged 28.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals during the week’s four games, leading the Bobcats to a 4-0 record as part of their current franchise-record five-game winning streak. Richardson becomes the second Bobcats player to be named Player of the Week this season, joining Gerald Wallace, who received the award for the week ending January 20.

Richardson tied a Bobcats franchise record with 42 points in the 119-109 win over Golden State on March 5, tallying the fifth 40-point game in franchise history and falling two points shy of his career high of 44. Richardson 34-point performance in a 100-97 win over Washington on March 8 marked his 11th game of the season scoring 30 or more points, breaking the franchise record of 10 set last season by Gerald Wallace.

Here is a recap of the week for Richardson:

March 4 @ Minnesota: Tallied 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a 109-89 win over the Timberwolves.

March 5 vs. Golden State: Posted 42 points and seven rebounds in a 118-109 win over the Warriors.

March 8 @ Washington: Recorded 34 points, eight rebounds and four steals in a 100-97 win over the Wizards.

Congratulations J-Rich. This is the first time a Bobcat other than Gerald Wallace is earning this honors as far as I remember.

I guess Gerald was named three times in 4 years. I don't remember any other Bobcat.

I mean, we all knew how good he's been playing, but it's great to see that others are recognizing it as well. Congratulations Jason!

Good call, S.A.Smith. What the hell were the Bobcats and MJ thinking trading Brandan Wright for Jrich (and Jermareo)??? Please, man, you've been irrelevant for years now, so why not just man up and fade away into obscurity now.....

Way to go, Jason!!!! Well deserved!

PS. The unbiased SLAM magazine has a very nice JRich article in the most recent issue. If you're near a newstand, or bookstore, either buy it or flip through and read it. (Going to drop them an email to thank them for their acknowledgement of the Bobcats, and let them know they deliver better, and more unbiased insights to the team than the Bobcats "hometown" newspaper.
