So, this season isn't panning out how we would have liked. What would you like to see for next year? I've been thinking about it lately, and there's a couple guys I think need to have a bigger impact for our team, and a couple positions we need, whether we lose someone or not.
Jared Dudley
Dudley needs to be a BIG part of our future. He is an excellent SF-PF combo that needs to get upwards of 25+ minutes a night. He can finish close to the basket, has a good outside jumper, can hit the 3 ball sometimes, and is a BEAST on the rebounds. He doesn't stop until well after the whistle is blown. He ALWAYS makes smart decisions on the court and has the poise of a 5 year vet. On the court and off the court he is a good person and role model, and should be a key to our franchise.
Ryan Hollins
Yes I know, this might seem a little out of left field. But one thing you cannot deny is that Ryan Hollins busts his ass when he gets playing time. He can rebound, and he is a monster on the blocks. His offense is very primitive, and he sometimes makes poor decisions and gets into foul trouble, and his physical frame is a bit skinny, but he has some good raw potential and I could see him being an Anderson Veraejo type player with the right tooling. I'd like to see him get more playing time as we close towards the end of the season, and if he can hit the weights in the off season and work on his offense and poise, he can be an excellent Center/PF off the bench next year.
Raymond Felton
Possibly the biggest question mark besides Okafor. Some nights he shines, and other nights he looks like he shouldn't be on the court. I think a lot of this has to do with his inexperience in the league and a lack of leadership on the bench. I think he needs a solid verteran PG (no JMac didn't count) to show him how to be a better playmaker. He also needs to control his temper, as sometimes he throws up wild shots that he has no reason to be taking. I think with proper coaching however, he could be our PG for many years.
And finally, we need a Center. A starting center. We need someone with experience, can rebound/defend, and can score some. If he could give us 12-15 and 10 every night, it would be perfect. Okafor and Nazi are entirely too streaky (and Nazi being too lazy) to be our center, and it really hurts us. Okafor has a severe lack of focus right now, and Nazi is just too slow and lazy for my liking. I could even live with 10 or less points as long as he is a great defender (ala Ben Wallace).
This off season will be interesting. Who will we resign? Who will we let go? Who will we sign? Will there be some trades? How will May and Morrison fit into things? This should be a very exciting off season, and I hope for the best.
