View Full Version : The Kevin Love Thread
An outstanding understanding of the game, positioning and control. Works really, really hard in the paint and is a banger in every sense of the word. In saying that, still able to step out and hit the long J. His real strength is his natural instinct to move the ball on as soon as it hits his hands on the defensive end which has resulted in many easy baskets for Collison as he leaks out. He knows that as soon as Love looks like getting the ball, he's best start running because 9 times out of 10, if Love looks like getting the ball, he'll get it. Once he has it, he has the quick thinking to throw the outlet, which he does at amazing length and accuracy) and will hit Collison on the move 3/4 of the way down the court.
Comparisons: Ben Wallace (rebounding and effort) meets Chris Webber (passing and IQ)
Best Fits: Sixers, Wizards, Nets

That is what I was about to say, Chef. If we have a pick in the mid teens via trade (like Carroll and our 2nd) I'd love to grab Love as our PF!
True, but I'm a little worried about 2 things.
1. If we do eventually play to our strengths and go up tempo, how would Love fair?
2. Assuming we resign EO50, I don't feel that great about having two undersized guys playing the 4 and the 5 together at the same time.
Know what I mean?

I am going under the assumption that Okafor will be a Sign and Trade. I know what happens when we "assume", but it is getting really ugly now. He's getting hammered on our site, in the press, everywhere. It would be best for him and for us if we parted ways. i just want to get something good in return.
If we could S&T EO50 for something and maybe sign Diop, then a pairing of Diop and Love might be ok.
Still doesn't help Love get up and down the court and stop huffing and puffing if we do go up tempo though.

Sam didn't exactly have the team in great shape coming out of camp this season either, so this is a worthy concern, because it means that We likely won't be doing much to get him conditioned by next season. However, Sam also hasn't exactly had us running and gunning this season either. So, Love could work.
I will say one thing:
Swish and Crash would seriously benefit playing with Love if he could do in the pro's what he's done in high school and college.
They both could leak out and Love would hit him on the break time and time again.

Exactly! Plus, he plays a tenacious Defense and loves to try and Rebound with effort. All good things we need!
remember that love is only 18 or 19. he will always have a big frame but he still has alot of growing to do. he still has baby muscles, once he gets his "man muscles" i think he will solidify a little. plus, he is clearly a team guy and if the team said lose some weight so you can get up an down, he would give it his best.

If he could do the same as Boozer (he came into the league chunky and worked hard at refining his body) then he would do well.

Hell right now I'd take some Love at the 8th pick. For Sure.
I'd try him out at PF with Emeka at C.
Worries though that he's a total west coaster and might only stick in Charlotte through his rookie contract. I'd check that out. Maybe why we passed on Brandon Roy.

WE should have learned from the past. If he's the best available at our pick, we have to take him. He'll adjust to the lifestyle. I lived out in LA for 3.5 years and dont miss it at all.

Gawd Bill Rafferty is Gawd Awful.
"Little Kiss" for over 20 darned years now has evolved to "Just a Smootch" and "a Little Smootch."
That plus the general incoherence of his gremlin-talk just drives me nuts. The only saving grace tonite was that my wife sat thru the game with me; so I could enjoy the "you gotta hear this guy" moments, and low and behold right off the bat he burps up something totally incoherent that makes her laugh. So at least he didn't dissappoint.
Thank goodness he's done for this tournament. Bring on Billy Packer!

This guy is my choice for the eight pick. He don't need to lose any weight . He just needs to tone his body in the weight room . Thats not that hard to do . With a little work he could make a living just hiting the boards and with his out let passing ability.

On ESPN, there is an article on Love and how he has lost 13 lbs since the NCAA Tourney. They say he has gone on a diet and exercise program which has added muscle and taken away the baby fat he had during the yr. Apparently it has caught the eye of the NBA scouts as the article says he is moving up the Draft Board. It looks as though he may get serious consideration from the Bobcats if we pick at #8.

That's great news. If his body ever catches up to his ability and ball IQ he could be off the charts good. The biggest problem I have with him is how gassed he would get during a game. If he can amp up his conditioning so that isn't a problem then the sky might be the limit.

yeah i was watching that, it is interesting. He seems a lot like Sean May to me. (dont kill on me for that, but thats just my initial impression)

That's fair enough - I mean, McMay would have been an excellent player for us if he had of stayed healthy and applied himself.
Love and McMay's skill sets are very alike. The biggest thing that seems to separate them is thier application.
Love has it all over McMay on that front!!
Love has the potential to be better than Boozer (because Love is better on D and with his passing) if he can get his body right.

Hey yall. I run www.nbamock.com. I have you all slated to take Kevin Love. Other sites have him going past #10, but I think with Jordan falling in most drafts, and Love having that tournament he had he definitely will move up. I hope he's available at #8!!
Check out this vid courtest of ESPN. Supposedly he has dropped about 13lbs!

Kevin Love could not hold Boozer's jock. This kid is so out of shape and nonathletic. We don't need a Sean May 2.0
