View Full Version : Charlotte Bobcats MVP for 2007-08 Season
With the season ending soon, which among the bobcats have perform best this season? Considering numbers improvement, expectations and other factors in determining the performance n growth of a player... i think only two bobcat has shown satisfying performances this season n both new members coincidentally. First is Nazr, i know he is not a gasol or amare who are stars n had played only half a season but with the performance we expected coming from a player like him i say its very satisfactory. In fact he has even outplayed our main big in emeka most of the time.. And the other is of course J-Rich, our MVP, literally re-writing most of the records in bobcat history in a season. He is having the best season any bobcat had in its 4 years of existence.. definitely, the best bobcat player we have had in our history.. :afro:
For the most disappointing, its a toss up between emeka n ray.. for obvious reasons..
Worst coach of the year (maybe of all time): Vincent, hands down.. :afro:

My MVP is J-Rich. I love Crash, but J-Rich carried us in several of our victories.
Most disappointing - Okafor by a mile
Coach's grade - D+ I wont FAIL him as he did make a few strides in learning and has run a good rotation when he finds it working. Also, he did lose 2 key contributors before the Season started, and Okafor basically took 2/3 of the Season off. Rookie Coach has a little play room, but Vincent used all his up.
Who is on the hotseat next season? Management, especially MJ. They have to make the right moves this off season, make hay with the Draft, and put together some guys who will gel together and make this team one to be feared by its opponents.

Jrich no doubt. Anyone who doesnt say it is crazy. Hes a better version of Ray Allen, and gets no real hype.

JRich.
No question. I also agree with your other awards, Wil.

honestly i don't understand how people are STILL saying felton is dissapointing...didn't we go through this last month where everybody apologized for being down on him since we realized he's one of the best things for this team?
he rarely gets less than 7 assists a night...he can hit a big shot...he actually CARES about this team
sure he has his cons he shoots too much and can dissapear at times...but honestly do you expect anybody else we can feasably get to do better?

+1.
Felts gets WAY too much hate.  If we'd done what most teams would do and actually invest a season into him with the coaching staff's confidence that he can be the leader then we wouldn't be in this boat concerning Felton (5th overall pick don't ya know).  So long as we continue to put his growth at PG on the backburner he'll never get thru the growing pains and he'll never develop like we want.
A small mean part of me would like to see the team replace him with a Jarrett Jack or Marcus Williams...THEN we'd see what a below average PG looks like trying to run a young squad.
Let the man learn his job without nitpicking every.....little.....thing.
Most disappointing - Okafor by a mile
ditto.

I was agreeing with the Emeka earning the most disappointing award. I like Raymond. We could do so much worse than him, and we certainly can't spend time worrying about him not being Chris Paul (which, thankfully, no one's done on this thread yet).

J-Rich adopted a totally a new system and a new role. We've all witnessed his adaptation process during the season. Finally, it looks like he's settled in his new role. And especially in last 3-4 months, he's been usually playing like a legendary scorer. So that's why he's being my MVP of this season.
Next year, I expect him to be an All-star and a 23-24 ppg scorer for us.

Good topic, Wil!
MVP for the season is definitely JRich. So unfair that he gets no press, not even from the damn city in which he plays!! The worst sports media coverage in the entire WORLD is headquartered in the Queen City.....without question!
I give Gerald honorable mention. He was the MVP up until his foot injury when he was leading the team in scoring and steals, and second in just about every other cateogory: rebounds, assists, blocks. He held the fort down as Jason was getting acclimated to the team, and finding his role, and he is the heart of the Bobcats.
Most disappointing player is Mek for sure. I'm tempted to throw in Walter, but he wasn't with us long enough this season, nor do he get much PT under "coach", but still he was terrible, and a shell of his self from last season.
"Coach"? Well, uh.....there's a reason I put the quotes around his title! Grade D. He didn't get an F for the reasons ohara gave. Other than that, we'd be a playoff team with a coach.

J-Rich because we went on our longest win streak in the our history when he was the main scorer....(When G-Wall was hurt)

jrich. crash close second.
is primo eligible, just for being traded and sparing us the horror of watching him start every night?
Just piling on at this point but J-Rich is our MVP hands down.

J-rich, definitely.
Durability (started every game), ability to take over a game, plays best against tough opponents (see Boston win, etc).
Overall he puts us in the best position to win due to his ability to score in a variety of ways and his poise.

going for unanimous .. JRICH .. emerged as the true team leader in the 2nd half with a complete inside-out game. The man is a beast.
Most dissappointing? Jeff McInnis! I mean how often does a starter get cut?
and I'd like to award the
2008 Ham Biscuit
to
Othella Harrington
for his extraordinary service despite having a 2" vertical, sprints like my grandfathers jog to the bathroom and inventor of the Piggy's Butt Check (thats when Felts put up his fist).

I've been around but I haven not had as much time to post while at work. Plus most of the discussion at least on RGM seems to be the same conversations we've had 10k times. I've been watching our cats but with the NBA season being so great if there is a better game on League pass I'll usually watch that instead and at least flip back over to the cats game.
You know how it is fats. I'm like you in that I'm an NBA fan in general so I watch a bunch of teams. Well this is the first year I've had a hard time watching our games. Probably mostly because the lack of consistent effort from certain players throughout the year. Before I could endure the low level of play because I thought, "at least they are trying". Now on some nights when we just look putrid and I don't see effort I won't even finish watching.
I know this board is a general consensus, but I thought I would put this in here. This is copied from Simmons MVP article about his #1 KG.
"Every time one of his teammates got knocked down, KG rushed over to pick him up; eventually, four teammates were rushing over to help that fifth guy up, and that's just the way it goes with the team now. Every time an opponent kept going for a shot after a whistle, KG defiantly blocked the shot just out of principle. Eventually, everyone started doing it. No shots after the whistle against the Celtics."
You know who also NEVER lets an opponents shot touch the rim after a dead ball...J-rich. I noticed this early in the season, not once if he is anywhere near the rim does he let a shot touch. I have seen him come from as far as the foul line to knock it away. At first I thought it was a waste of energy, but after awhile, I came to the conclusion that it is one of those small pride gestures that sets the tone. This needs to happen from everyone, who happens to be standing close to the rim (Earl, Matt and "CJ' excluded)
I have noticed the same thing Chef - and I agree, it's a pride thing...............and I love it.
The other thing he does (not pride related, but I find it funny) is that when ever there is a foul called and Swish has the ball in his hands (and it's a dead ball) he jacks up a left handed jump shot. Not sure why he does it, but he does it every time.

Jason Richardson is the MVP of the East. He never complains or nothing, he lead the NBA in 3 pointers and he really isn't JUST a 3pt shooter. Jason Kapono should have lead the NBA in 3's cause that's all he does.
Richardson basically helped us get 30+ wins. Without him we wouldn't have pulled that out this year.
Yeah Fats your Alien is freaky. It ties in cause this is Bobcats planet and your an Alien.

i rock the alien everywhere... cause that's how i am... lurking in the shadows, reading minds.... just not the rectal probes... well for dudes at least.
slam, thats funny you mention jrich and the lefty shots. i always love watching him take those 30 foot lefty heaves. he's not half bad with that off hand. i'm waiting for the day next season when the whistle blows and the other team jacks up a freebie and ammo comes running in from the 3 pt line, catches the ball and punts it into the club vue restaurant, spilling a glass of red wine on some southpark mom's new white sweater as ammo screams "NOT TODAY BITCHES, NOT TODAY!"

J Rich - mvp by far.
most disappointing - Sean May gathers this award for the 2nd straight year from me for still not being able to even suit up and play.

J-Rich gets this award. I think the team going around .500 without Crash takes him out of MVP talk. I think he can be MVP as a fantasy player, but in actual value to the current roster is about 4th. Losing Richardson, Felton, or Okafor has greater ramifications for the team. He is a fan favorite, b/c of his hustle and dunks, especially, but is overrated by Bobcat nation in the grand scheme of things. Looking at how much more fluid the team is when he does not play makes this even more clear.
I think Felton unfairly catches a bunch of crap b/c people lump the Jeff McInnis era in with his starts at pg. If either of these coaches would have taken the house money and actually let the guy play AND stay at pg, they would have had all the data they needed to make a decision. Felton is not to blame for his as Bobcats PR tries to make it seem. Poor coaching, development, and business is to blame. You draft a guy to be your future pg, then let him show if he can do it.

110, that's the problem with the management and coaching in every respect. We don't have enough information about a few players to know whether they can truly handle a spot or not. Too much moving around.
Just let's me know they don't know what they are doing. An experienced coach knows what he has early in the season, and will work within his team identity. We have no identity. San Antonio has an identity. They bring their second best player off the bench. They understand defense and adjustments.
This franchise has been around too long now, to still not have an identity. We have some good pieces, and a few to play with, but no vision.

No vision sums it up. And an inflated perspective on the wrong pieces disproportionately placing pressure on others to compensate for managements shortcoming. They really need to spend the offseason simply watching film of successful teams and then they may get a better clue about the NBA today. I'm convinced that they are still stuck in the mode of building teams and approaching personnel like the NBA of the past as opposed to the current.
