Oh yeah! This could be good news coming our way! Dont have time to do the link, going out to dinner. See it on the front page of ESPN.com.

Just a tease, a coincidence, or the beginning of a beautiful relationship? Time will tell.

For the record I am neutral on LB as our coach, but as is unanimous on this board, ANYONE is an upgrade over Sammy V

I heard a rumor on 99.9 The Fan in Raleigh that he was considering the Stanford job.

There's no way he's going back to college, right? To Stanford?

Nah, it's gotta be us.

Right?

STANFORD? STANFORD?????? What?

I dont think so...
He will be going to some NBA team, not college and especially not Stanford!

And his name is not popping up with regard to Chicago or NY, so that is good for us as well.

Please let it happen... I'm trying not to get too excited about this, but it sounds good.

I really am thinking we are going to be dealing with vincent next year. And yeah, Larry Brown will go to college for a year if no NBA team picks him up.

i feel like this means he is coming to Charlotte. I dont know why... it just seems like it. From the things TheBeagle was saying, and the way he quit like he knows he has a deal. I just feel like Larry Brown will be our coach next year. good or bad

ESPN Rumor Central mentions Stanford and even Atlanta as possibilities, but nothing said of Charlotte. Why Atlanta? At least they MADE the Playoffs.

well for one reason... saying Charlotte in a rumor section isnt gonna get as many hits as a very popular school or juicier city.

and two... we technically still have a coach so theres not really a job opening in Charlotte.

I wonder if Brown could be brought in as an assistant to try and right what Vincent has done and get him back on track? Then, if Vincent is still Buzz Killing everything like he did last season, they can fire his arse come Jan and Brown can step up into the head role?

If that's the route that they want to take to save face for everyone and try to right the ship at the same time, then that's just sad.

Although, it is a bit reminiscent of the cutting McInnis to force the Ray-as-PG situation all while saying it was so that Jeff could join a Playoff contender B.S. So, maybe not out of the realm of possibility.

I see where Muttley is coming from if we are going to make a coaching change (which is a dying need IMHO) it should be done early on not half way through the season I think that's what he means.

It just seems like a real passive way to deal with something that's inevitably going to need change anyway. Like waiting until the first day of training camp to check out Sean May's knee.

I just would really prefer to have the new head coach set well before the draft so that they can have input into what type of player they would like to coach.

I'm hoping that before the weekend is over we'll hear something.

I wonder if Brown was to come to Charlotte would he bring in his own guys to reform the coaching staff or keep some guys I wouldn't mind Vincent being demoted to learn under Brown, Phil Ford staying as the point coach, D.A. joining the staff (I keep hearing he wants to coach might just be net rumors though) and I think we need a new big man coach.

Guys, it's time to be realistic. Sam Vincent will be our coach next season.

Brown could be hired next week and still have an impact on our draft selection.

The basis of the plan is that we would have a contingency that involves, at the very least, succession management in case Buzz Kill sucks arse again next season - which will inevitably happen.

If things stay as they are and Buzz blows, we have no one to step in and take over. Bringing Brown in now under the guise of an assistant gives us a safety net.

Slam its a good idea in theory. and it could work i guess.

But the hitch is getting Larry Brown and his massive ego to take an Assistant Coaching job.

that would never happen. ever. not ever. never.

Larry could easily go to Chicago and be the head coach, same for Atlanta. and most any college in america would hire him instantly if he even nodded their way. So I mean i highly doubt he would pass a head gig and more money to go sit on the bench behind a guy that has no clue what he is doing.

Larry Brown has the possibility to be the anti-christ or the hero in Charlotte. which really... either is better than the nothing we have now. But what he would never do is take an assistant coaching job on a franchise that has never finished above .500 .

the thing that bugs me is that we haven't released Sam yet. I highly doubt they would fire and hire on the same day. but nothing would really suprise me.

I'm wondering if they have given him a deadline to resign, possibly giving him a chance to invent a reason to leave.

The other thing I'm wondering about is if they'd make the announcement during the first round of the football draft so that the story gets overshadowed by picks. :g:

That's how I'd do it if I was Bobcat GM: scheduled right about the time they announce the first pick.

That's clever, if not weak.

Slam, I definitely hear what you're saying. I would just rather part ways with Vincent completely, immediately. With your scenario, Vincent gets the opportunity to improve his coaching abilities and learn from a real coach. I see how that could be good, especially with Sam being so much younger than LB. If things went perfectly in your scenario, then Vincent could be a long-term solution at coach. However, I just don't see things working out perfectly like that. Whether it's just Sam sucking or Mustachio's scenario, something would go not according to plan. Yes, Brown is right there as a contingency if Vincent inevitably shows that he cannot grow as a head coach in the NBA. But if it's inevitable, then we would be better off to just cut ties right now?

If this rumor (http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/52157/20080424/sources_sampson_likely_headed_to_milwaukee/) is true then Milwaukee is out of the mix for Larry Brown.

Thats good news for us.

Larry Brown is pursuing another job as an NBA head coach

By TOM MOORE
phillyBurbs.com

Brown doesn't want the bitter taste of his disastrous 2005-06 season with the Knicks to be the final stop on his Hall of Fame career. That season ended with him being fired after New York finished 22-60.

With the 67-year-old Brown looking at the Charlotte Bobcats and other teams that have openings, he resigned his position as executive vice president of the 76ers yesterday.

Brown had served as a Sixers VP since Jan. 5, 2007. He remained on the job even after Billy King, a former Brown assistant who had hired him, was fired.

“It's rare you'll find a separation between an organization and an executive as amicable as the one the 76ers had with Larry Brown today,” Sixers president and general manager Ed Stefanski in a statement.

“Larry was born to coach and this is something he and I talked about when I took the job here back in December,” Stefanski said. “So it comes as no surprise to me.”

Brown guided the Sixers to the 2001 NBA Finals, earning Coach of the Year honors in the process. He later won the 2004 title with the Detroit Pistons.

I'm excited to read that :)

The latest inside-info from the Philly Daily News friend:

He wanted to let me know that none of this is definite, but stuff that is gaining steam as of now, and I'm quoting him as follows:

LB interviewed for Stanford and probably could have had the job. But he wants to be in NBA and passed.
I think he resigned so he can pursue NBA jobs without teams having to ask the Sixers for permission.
I was told he is not involved with the Bulls. No way he is going back to the Knicks.
So that leaves places where the coach could yet get fired. That could happen in Dallas, Atlanta, Memphis and maybe even Charlotte. Would not be a shock if George Karl gives it up in Denver, but no way LB is going to coach Iverson again.
I am hearing Atlanta is his most likely spot. Memphis is a disaster. And anything is possible in Dallas, especially if they get crushed two more times by Chris Paul.
What I heard about Charlotte is that the owner won't spend any money. LB won't come cheap so I wonder if that can happen, even if it makes sense from a coaching standpoint.
****END QUOTE*****

Looks like it's in MJ's hands; if he wants him, he'll get Bob to pony-up, if what we've heard from them is true. It would be fucking unbelievable if MJ chooses "coach" over LB, and I doubt I go to any games next season, nor watch any
