The Charlotte Observer -
If Larry Brown isn't destined to become the head coach of the Bobcats then Paul Silas would love to bring his Carolina ties to the organization, according to the Charlotte Observer.

He is a former coach of the Charlotte Hornets and lives in the area.

"They need someone who knows how to handle people, get the most out of them," Silas told the Observer. "My teams have always been really good defensive teams. This team has that potential" in terms of personnel.

He calls coaching the Bobcats a "dream job."
I'm pretty sure Brown is the canidate that most people want but this is interesting Silas seems to REALLY want to be here too.

In a dream world, the Bobcats would hire the best candidate for the job. I don't really know who that is, however, so I just hope that they use their basketball knowledge to hire the right coach.

Either of Brown or Silas seems like a great idea to me. So long as the next coach has experience and can command the players.

One thing of note that I really like from the article is, in addition to the quote Eaton gave, is when Silas said the following:

"They need to be in a system. I have a system offensively that has proven to work."

In two or three sentences he sums up all the reasons that Sam Vincent is no longer coach of the Charlotte Bobcats and why he would be a better choice for the job.

It does seem inevitable that Larry Brown will be the next Head Coach (and he's my pick too, for what it's worth), but there are certainly other candidates, Silas especially, that at the very least would not be a poor choice.

I couldn't have said it better. I don't care who we hire, so long as we hire someone who knows what the hell they are doing and who doesn't piss the players off in a way that Vincent did.

I agree with you guys a system nees to be in place.
Personaly i think Salis is more of a players coach . At the same time i think Brown has more basketball knowledge about winning and is not a rookie or players coach[old school]
I think it all comes down to what kind of coach would get the best responce from the players.

I agree 100%. Silas is much more of a player's Coach than Brown, but I trust Brown to be able to make the "right moves" when needed. Very tough call, but either man would prove a huge improvement over Vincent, as would Carlisle. Any of the 3 have my vote.

Here's how I would rank possible hires:

1 - Rick Carlisle
He would be here for a long time, I think, and would take this team to the next level.

2 - Larry Brown
He would teach our guys how to win but at 67 how long would he be willing to coach them for?

3 - Paul Silas
Really good guy in every way and gets his team to play defense (something that we rarely do) but when compared to the other two he definitely has his shortcomings as a coach.

I wouldn't be upset with either one of these three guys being hired.

Don't even put that out there.

It is funny, though. In its own dark way.

I was rooting for Paul Silas last season, and I still want him at helm this season. He's a bit younger that Brown, not much, but still younger and could go for a few years longer. Plus he's loved in this area.

My Rankings

1. Paul Silas
2. Rick Carlisle
3. Larry Brown...

though I'd be content with any of the three...

I agree Silas seems to be a nice guy - good players guy, but otherwise I've not once been impressed with his actual game coaching or his talent assessment skills. Honestly I think he's a pretty bad coach actually. So clearly he's not my choice regardless of how bad he wants it. Hey, I want the job really bad too, but that doesn't mean I should have it.

So please Larry Brown for now.

I don't think that Rick Carlisle is even an option at this point. He'll be off the board very soon.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case since nobody has even mentioned his name in connection to us. I hope we are actually taking a look at him.

The Bobcats have had nothing to say about interviews or any thing except Vincent is gone. Brown leaving the 76ers one day and Vincent geting caned the next day seems fishey. All so insiders are saying the job is Browns ,makes it sound like a done deal.
As far as Salis geting the coaching job im hearing nothing from any body except from Salis his self.

The main thing to remember is the Biscuit is gone.

Yeah, Dav, you know how quiet this organization can be. We probably won't know anything until the ink's dried.

I am chomping at the bit to hear something. The way the rumor mill went crazy as soon as Vincent was canned, I expected Larry Brown to be announced as our coach the next day. It could be a done deal and they let the day after Panthers draft stuff wear off before they made a big announcement. With the Wachovia Championship in town, you know MJ and Top Bob are here and would like to make a big announcement like LB. The Charlotte big wigswill be around at the golf course and the Bobcats management could sell those luxury suites with a new Hall of Fame Coach now leading the team. Perhaps an announcement could come by Wednesday...but it is just wishful thinking on my part.

I expect an announcement in the next couple of weeks. Here's the list of what I'd like to see:

1. Carlisle
2. Brown
3. Silas

Carlisle because he could be really good for a long time. Brown because I want to win now, and can set the team up for the future by teaching them. Silas because he gets the team to play defense and play hard; the team already has the talent but he is a players coach (which is something would be handy after Vincent). Like most others on the board, I think we'd be happy with any of them at this point.

Anyone heard about any other candidates? I honestly think it'll be Brown. There's already been talks about him nabbing some of his former assistants from past teams, which in some cases could be an upgrade. If Brown does get hired and we get the 8th pick, who would we draft?
