It's terrible that these are the best we have to pick from to begin with. I've become so disillusioned with politicians and the American people over the last 8 or so years, it's highly likely I won't even vote for president. I'll vote for county commissioner, county school superintendent, bonds and referendums and that sort of thing (local politics), but I could really give a rat's ass about the greedy, rapacious morons in D.C. Much like the Finals, if there was a way both guys could lose, I'd be in favor of that.

After the whole "reverend wright" incident, I was fortunate enough to be able to listen to Mr. Obama give the speech he gave on race and race relations. At this point, I decided that there was no other candidate for president.
All he did in that speech was say, "okay here's what race-relations are like in the US. Let's take a look at them. Here's what this means from my mother's perspective, and here's what this means from my father's perspective."
He didn't say anything more revolutionary than the truth. His honesty was surprising because he didn't try to ignore or brush off what had been said about him (as many politicians before him had). He simply approached it and discussed it.
If we can hope for anything out of our leaders, it's honesty. I cannot conceive what else we might hope for.

VERY well said Muttley. Obama is the first to come along in a long time who has seriously tried to honor his country by staying above the cheap old manipulative politics.
I'm old enough to have become disturbed to depression by the state of our "politics." The word has come to mean .. to condone manipulation, propaganda and corruption. It makes me very upset sometimes.
Growing up I was always taught and I believed that the US was the one country above that. We were serious and truthful.
Obama isn't perfect thank goodness, but he is honest to a fault and deeply intelligent. We haven't seen that in a long time....how wrong is that?

I don't think there is a person I'd not vote for that was running as a Demorcrat. I just vote the ticket. ofcoarse I am also VERY poor, and the idea of Republicans and poor people mix about as well as Drinking and RACING cars!
I vote straight Dem pretty much on every ticket. I'm a liberal Yankee that moved here so...
The reason is that I agree a lot of D ideology on fiscal and social policies. Simple as that. I can break it down to specific issues as needed.

I have to admit that I'm pleasantly surprised at the responses so far. I myself am an Obama supporter and I'm glad to see that many of you will be voting for him in the fall, but in all honesty I thought that I would see more people defending John McCain since this is the state that kept Jesse Helms in office for what felt like 200 years :p

Obama supporter here, I didn't have any issues with Ron Paul, until I found out about his shady dealings.
A number of Paul's policies don't make sense but sound good as sound bites. We can pick a couple and debate 'em if you want.

Who the hell do you pick . No one really knows in this world of the media . Making our choices for us without us even knowing it. I expect a truck load of shit to fall on OBAMA after the convition from the other side just waiting to spread it in his face . How Obama handles it will deternine a lot. I fill Obama is the better pick and hes got my vote but he is going to have a hell of a fight on his hands [ money talks]

Jimmy Carter was also the worst president this country has ever seen. I think Obama is gonna win, and I also think Obama is a repeat of Jimmy Carter.
It all sounds good on the surface with Carter and Obama. But its just not that easy folks.
I believe capitalism and the free market system are what made this country great. It's why we have the NBA and the Bobcats to come talk about. Obama is as far away from those principles as any candidate has been in a long time.
Anytime a candidate proposes that the "Goverment" can fix anything that goes wrong in your life... you need to be leary. It's just a way to buy your vote. you mean the same to Obama as you do to McCain... nothing.

I can't vote this upcoming election, but I am an Obama supporter, and I'm tryin to get my family voting for him as well. My mother is a republican, father a democrat, but neither go straight ticket....so for me Obama is who I want....really waiting to see who the running mates are going to be....I want Bill Richardson from New Mexico

The war actually is not the catalyst for the majority of the problems with the economy right now. In some ways yes, because everything effects an economy and the market which operates within it, but mostly no.
The war does greatly effect the deficit which continues to hurt currency value and T-bond rates, but it doesnt have to do with why banks are busting and people are so worried

If there is anything I have learned in my 43 years on this Earth, it is that friends and politics do not mix. It ruins friendships more often than not. Cant talk about it for fear of stepping on toes and hurting feelings. ie. Abortion. Some people will go to their grave arguing it is a matter of life and death. Others will argue just a vigorously that it is a matter of choice more so than life vs death. And far too often, there is no middle ground in which to meet. Just cant go there unless you are debating someone for whom you dont care to sustain a friendship.
I'll just say this much. I have great respect for both Obama and McCain. I believe that both of these men actually do care about the Country and truly feel that they can lead the Country the best. I believe they are both very patriotic and want only the best for the Country. But it is just like politics as usual. The two men have very different ideas on what is in the best interest of the Country. But I have a strong feeling that this election is going to be very very close. I would only hope that it can remain civil. But if you study history, you will see that elections and politics have been dirty and ugly and filled with hate and lies all the way back to the Adams and Jefferson.
I'll add this about some also rans and soon to be out of work people. I am thankful Hillary did not get the nomination and would never vote for a ticket with her on it. I think she is all about herself, and Bill the same way. When times got tough, they sought to divide the voters by Race and Gender. Unity will beat divisiveness every time in my book. I wont vote for anyone who intentionally seeks to divide us by Race, Religion, Gender or Age and creates panic and fear for his/her own personal gain. And as for Pres. Bush, I dont think he's evil or anything of the sort. He just got in over his head. The Presidient is a CEO. A good CEO surrounds himself with smart people to whom he can delegate authority. He surrounded himself with his "friends" and the great majority of them simply were ill equipped to handle the job. Hence, and very poor job performance rating by the people of this Country. He thought that certain people who were wealthy and his friends would certainly be smart enough to handle the jobs he dished out to them. Unfortunately, he was sadly mistaken. But he is so stubborn in not wanting to hurt his friends by telling them that they are fired for incompetence, that he just let them continue to screw matters up worse and of course as President, the buck stops with you. He must take the blame for his administration's errors.
That is my political piece, I have spoken my peace, I am at peace, and I leave you this evening in peace and wish that Peace finds each of you this weekend.
